Whadya men She's Baaa-ack? Shouldn't you have said, I'm Baaa-ack? After all, you were down diving in Honduras, right? Weren't ya gonna write about the trip?
Yep. But let's start at the end and I'll write about the Zen of Buoyancy later this week.
I got back from Roatan Saturday night around 9:15 PM. I got home from the airport around 10:30, pulled the car into the garage, unloaded the trunk, and tried to open the door from the garage into the house. It was locked. Horrors! I didn't have a key. Since the key ring I carry has nail nippers and a c-rats can opener from my Navy days and they could be dangerous weapons in the eyes of our professional airport screeners, I only took my car key. So, I was locked out.
Not to worry I said to myself, I'll just drive over to Michael and Cindy's and get her key. So I did. Walked around back and knocked on the back door as always do. They were there in the den. Michael answered the door and Cindy raced out of the room. She was wearing a t-shirt and I don't know what else 'cause she moved very fast. Didn't look. Didn't see anything.
I walked in, sat down, and Michael poured me a glass of wine. Cindy returned and wanted to tell me about the Princess. The Princess is my cat Ashley who is a FAP (Feline American Princess). Michael handed me this article from Saturday's Atlanta Urinal and Constipation.
Poor little Ashley had been drinking prodigious amounts of water and been taking bodacious pees. So Cindy took her to the vet. That was a story in itself since she had to chase Ashley all over the house and out from under the bed. Had to use a broom for that. Also, since Ashley hates to be picked up and hates to be put in the evil going to the vet cage there was quite a struggle when she caught her. Ashley has no front claws, but she's real good with her back ones. Cindy has gotten very good at dodging the back ones, but she did get one scratch. So did the vet. Anyway, turns out she had a urinary tract infection. They also did some blood work since it appeared that she may have some kidney problems. Poor thing. I have to give her antibiotic pills twice a day. No sweat. I know how to give pills to a cat. Piece of cake.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very touching. Can we get back to that AJC article?
Oh yeah. You damn betcha. What a great welcome home present! Some of our gal Jihad Cindy's constituents have filed a law suit.
Republican voters who crossed over to help Denise Majette beat U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney in August's Democratic primary interfered with voting rights and their votes should be declared invalid, a lawsuit filed Friday contends.
Wait a minute here! Georgia is an open primary state. Republicans can vote in the Dimocratic primary and Dimocrats can vote in the Republican primary. It was OK when Dimocrats voted for John McCain in the Republican primary two years ago.
Five DeKalb County voters were named as plaintiffs in the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta. It says the "malicious" crossover voting was unconstitutional and violated the Voting Rights Act, and asks that McKinney be declared the winner.
They left out racist. There should be sumpin' in here about racism. And don't forget the Jews. J-E-W-S. Also, where is Jesse Jackson? He and Reverend Al should be here too. They're prob'ly making their plane reservations now.
"The issue is that black Democratic voters in the 4th District had their voting rights interfered with and violated," said Atlanta lawyer J.M. Raffauf, who represents the five African-American plaintiffs: the Rev. E. Randel T. Osburne, an official of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; Linda Dubose; Brenda Lowe Clemons; Dorothy Perry; and Wendell Muhammad, a McKinney campaign official.
This is really ridiculous since Cynthia McKinney would have lost even without the crossover voting. The more affluent (also intelligent) blacks in Stone Mountain voted for Denise Majette. Cynthia's base in south DeKalb County stayed home. She lost. But this law suit oughtta be a lot of fun to watch.
Raffauf, who has represented McKinney, said the congresswoman supported the litigation.
Supported it? She's prob'ly behind it.
She could not be reached for comment Friday.
Now this is news! Cynthia not having a comment on sumpin'. This has to be a first.
The controversial five-term incumbent lost to Majette 58 percent to 42 percent.
Nyah. Nyah. Nyah. Nahy. Nyah.
Before the primary, leading Republicans and conservative commentators urged Republicans to vote for Majette in the Democratic primary.
I did my part. I voted for Denise Majette. I'm 55 years old and this was the very first time I ever voted for a Dimocrat. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
McKinney has repeatedly blamed the crossover voting for her defeat,
She left out the Jews. I thought they were the reason she lost.
and charged that Democratic officials aided Majette.
Huh? How did they do that? Was it by running an honest election?
The defendants in the lawsuit are Secretary of State Cathy Cox,
A Dimocrat
the DeKalb and Gwinnett County election supervisors,
What do they have to do with it? They run the polls and count the votes. Was there vote fraud?
Majette,
'Cause she won?
the DeKalb Republican Party
Those wascally Wepublicans!
and the state Democratic
Dimocrats again.
and Republican parties.
Those wascally Wepublicans again.
Majette, a former State Court judge, faces Republican Cynthia Van Auken in the November general election.
And Michael and I are both thinking of voting for Majette. She showed a lot of class in the campaign. Cynthia, the cutest little communist in Congress, did too, but, as usual, it was all low. Majette has also pledged to represent all the people in her district. I'm willing to give her a chance.
Georgia does not require voters to register by party, and they may choose either party's ballot in the primary.
Which is why this suit will lose big time, but It will be fun to watch. Wonder who's paying for it?
But the lawsuit contends that an organized attempt by members of one party to affect the outcome of another party's election is illegal.
This is great! How ya gonna prove it. Prove I'm a Republican. Or a Libertarian. Listen up! There. Is. No. Party. Registration. In. Georgia.
"Malicious crossover voting occurs when one party invades another party's primary to sabotage that party's choice of its own nominee for political office," the lawsuit says.
Ya mean like when the Dimocrats crossed over to vote for McCain two years ago? But ... but ... but that was different. Only Republicans have to obey laws.
Attorney General Thurbert Baker
Another Dimocrat
said he would "vigorously defend" the primary results. "Georgia law is crystal clear in its guarantee that a voter can walk into a polling place on primary election day and choose a ballot for whichever political party he or she chooses," he said.
Yep. Dat's the law!
Majette aide Jeannie Lawson said the campaign was reviewing the lawsuit and would "stay focused on the issues important to the voters of the 4th District."
Translation. We won. You lost. Shut the fuck up and go away.
Raffauf said his suit was bolstered by a 2000 U.S. Supreme Court decision invalidating California's "blanket" primary. Under that system, each voter's ballot listed every candidate, regardless of party affiliation, and allowed voters to choose freely among them.
Which even a third grade pissant could see has absolutely no relevance to Georgia's primary system.
That system, however, differs from Georgia's practice of requiring voters to choose one party's ballot.
Exactly!
And Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for a 7-2 majority in the California case, made a point of noting that it did not require the Supreme Court "to determine the constitutionality of open primaries."
So there!
And last night Michael also told me about the Torricelli brouhaha. OK. If the Dims get away with this can we talk for the next two years about the New Jersey Supreme Court giving the election to Lautenberg?
Fair's fair.
