Cindy's Early Birthday

I have to confess that I have nothing funny to write about and nothing to rant about. That's unusual. Not having anything funny is normal. Not having anything to rant about is abnormal.

Oh wait! I do have sumpin' funny. I have a link to the Acme Catalog

I could write sumpin' about gasoline prices, but I do not have the time to do it justice. It's 10:30 Sunday night and I'd like to get this post done by 11:00. Yeah, I should have started earlier but I didn't.

I did have a pretty good weekend. I always have my friend Cindy to dinner on her birthday but we couldn't get our schedules together. Her birthday is the end of this month but both of us are gonna be out of town. She and her husband are going to Charleston and I'm going diving down in Bonaire.

We can't do it next week 'cause I'm going diving in a quarry in Alabama to brush up on my open water skills and to get familiar with my new buoyancy control device and my new dive computer.

I'm getting back from Bonaire the weekend after her birthday so that weekend is out and the following weekend she and her husband, Michael are throwing a combination birthday party for him and a ten years after party. For the ten years after party everyone has to bring a 10 year old bottle of wine. Yummy!

I told her I'd take her and Michael to Antica Posta (an incredibly good Tuscan restaurant in Atlanta) the following weekend. That would almost take us to my birthday (which is the 25th if anyone wants to wish me a happy birthday then).

Michael came up with a better idea. He and Cindy were going to Violette last night and they suggested I take them for Cindy's birthday and then we could come back to my house for cognac.

It has become a tradition that cognac drinking after meals officially starts with Cindy's birthday. So it was much better to start last night than wait until October 18.

But back to Violette. The owner of Violette, Guy Luck, was murdered a while back. No one knows the entire story and we doubt if the murderers will ever be found. Guy was a friend of Michael and a very good friend of the Sommelier Guild of Atlanta. We usually had three or four tastings a year there and Guy gave us very good prices on the food.

The restaurant had been closed ever since his death, but was recently reopened by his business partner. Michael and Cindy liked to eat there a lot so that's why we went there. The food was good and the price was very reasonable.

After dinner we came back to my house and officially started cognac drinking season. I had bought a bottle of Delamain Vesper earlier in the day. All that was missing was a fire in the fireplace, but it was a little too warm for that.

I found out that Michael's and Cindy's daughter is rooting for Dean. To be fair, so is Michael. We have a bet on it. If Dean wins the nomination, I have to buy him a bottle of Delamain Vesper. If Dean doesn't get the nomination, Michael has to buy me a bottle of the cheaper Delamain. We used to drink that, but the Vesper is a lot better and worth the additional money. We both want to see Dean get the nomination, 'cause neither of us think he could win the election.

And George McGovern says that Dean's campaign reminds him of his. Oh, but wouldn't that be nice.

Hopefully, I'll be back to normal and have sumpin' to rant about. Gotta get to bed so I can get up in enough time to get my Z3 up to the BMW dealer to find out why the battery died. I gotta have emergency service come by to get it jumped for me.

See ya tomorrow.
