Long time readers know that I am not a linker. I leave that to other bloggers who have time to find and read all sorts of interesting stuff and alert the Blogosphere. But, every now and then someone (my sister this time) sends me a link to sumpin' that is so incredible, I have to pass it on. I command you to go read this. What is even more amazing is that this ran in the San Francisco Pravda Chronicle!
All right. Just one excerpt since the Hypocrite Dimocrat Party is so upset at Arnold's groping.
You're a Demo if you think Clinton was just having fun with women and it was time to move on rather than investigate his improprieties but Arnold was a real groper. You're a Republican if you think there's a difference between the president of the United States having sex with an political intern in the White House while his wife is sleeping in the next room and a big Hollywood star flirting on the set.
And another link sent to me by Henry Hanks, Ricky West, and Robert M. I never voted for Zell Miller, but if he would run again, I would definitely vote for him.
And now on to other stuff. Things are jumpin' at TCIDNN (The Company I Dare Not Name). My manager takes over for his manager who is retiring on Friday. I imagine the surgery to detach my manager's lips from his manager's ass will take place over the weekend. We still do not know who will take my manager's place.
We're moving along full bore on our Reverse Synergy project. We have gone through another one of our many reorganizations at TCIDNN (Our motto: When in doubt, reorganize). We have decided to unleverage our hardware, software, and peopleware resources and duplicate our efforts across divisions. We have split our mission into two separate divisions and split up the hardware. Whereas we used to share hardware and operating systems, each division will now maintain their own hardware and software. The division that is splitting off is gonna try to manage their own operating systems with occasional support from me. Good luck!
I got to attend a meeting today to discuss what kind of support we will provide for the other division. I didn't want to go but my team lead made me. He even cleared it with my manager. The last meeting I attended to discuss this I had lots of fun stating that certain decisions were "above my pay grade". My manager cringed everytime I said that. He seems to be doing more of that around me lately.
Anyway, since I provide most of the programming support for this division, I was there to back up my team lead in case there were any questions that he couldn't answer. I hid off to the side and tried to stay awake. He gave me permission to leave after we discussed my role. I was real nice and never said a word.
As another part of this project, we will have to move all of our stuff off the 4th floor of our building down to the 1st floor. This will be a major project that will not be cheap. The German project which has been on again, off again, on again, and off again is now on again maybe or maybe not. My manager thinks we can get the Germans to pay for the relocation since we would be able to install new equipment on the 1st floor that would replace equipment on the 4th floor. Unfortunately, the way the German project keeps changing, that will happen around 2010.
My team lead asked if I wanted to run the relocation project. BWAHAHAHAHAHA! I suggested we give it to the PMICOUM (Project Manager In Charge Of Useless Meetings) since he's the guy running the German project. I got a dirty look for making that suggestion. The second option was to have the last guy who joined our group, who is in Dallas, run the project and do the planning and I'd be his eyes and ears. Yeah! Give it to the new guy. Works for me.
In the meantime, I'm in the process of moving all the ESCON Directors (fiber optic switches) and the fiber optic patch panels from one end of the 4th floor, where there is nothing (There used to be processors and I/O there, but it's all gone) to the other end where all the equipment is. This will eventually eliminate all but two patch panels. One will go to a DASD lab on the 4th floor and the other will run from the 4th floor to the 1st floor while we're doing our migration.
This would be a real good opportunity to do a Den Beste type explanation of the evolution of large system interface cables to fiber optic cables and why we need fiber optic switches and the like but I can see eyes glazing over, so I will forgo that explanation. I just might do a geek post at a later date.
I've already emptied out two switches and it took me two weeks. Every time I move a fiber optic cable that goes to an I/O device, I have to move the fiber from the processors that access the device through that switch. Also, the fiber that comes from the processors may access multiple devices through that switch so I may have to move up to ten fiber connections at a time. I then have to change the I/O configurations for every processor affected. I also have to make this transparent to the users. The nice thing about this is I'm cleaning up a lot of I/O gens. I haven't messed up any users yet either. Did I mention that I'm good at what I do? So why don't I do this on weekends? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Long time readers will also remember that here at TCIDNN we use SHTS (Stupid Hourly Tracking System) to keep track of all of our work. This is so we know who has to pay for all the labor costs. I don't come cheap. The other division, which wants us to move to the 1st floor, doesn't want to pay for the relocation, which is why my manager is gonna try to get Hans und Fritz to pay for it. But, someone has to pay for my services. I have the SHTS code to bill the other division. I even get to charge them for the meeting I had to attend
this morning. And if there is one thing I do know, I do know my SHTS. You could say I really have my SHTS together.
As I've told my team lead many times, "I have a SHTS code and I know how to use it!"
And this week, I'm using it big time.
