The funny thing is, if Moore hadn't made all his "insightful" documentaries, Europeans might look at him as the ultimate negative American stereotype: a fat, lazy asshole.

Or perhaps he might move to Spain and actually explode from all the admiration he will get from those cowards.

Hey Sailor + Denny.How about the irony that Madonna had to cancel her concerts in Israel due to terrorist threats. The Palme d'Or jury only had a single French juror, Gina. The majority was actually American (4 Americans, the rest from different nations)and presided by Quentin Tarantino... Even Le Figaro did not see it appropriate Michael Moore for using the festival to spit in the face of the US. By the way, have you seen the movie?

An "interlude"? Sure, Napoleon was born in Corsica, grew up hating the French, but he quickly changed his mind after entering the Paris "Ecole Militaire"... And besides, you can't deny the absolute brilliance of his "French" generals, Murat, Lannes, Ney, Kleber etc... I would say France lost her military prestige after 1918. Just my two cents worth...

Gerard - Thanks for the info on the jury. There was that 20 minute standing ovation though. I realize that most of the people at Cannes were the anti-American Bush hating "elite". Even the Americans at Cannes hate their own country because we are not a socialist utopia yet. How dare we take the war to the terrorists rather than trying to understand why "they hate us". The clueless twits don't realize that one of the reasons they hate us is the decadence of Hollywood.

No I have not seen the movie since it hasn't been released in the United States yet. I do not intend to see it since it is an anti-American hit piece. I'm sure it will be as full of lies and half truths as his other "documentary", Bowling For Columbine. Moore is not a movie maker, he is a propagandist.

Le Figaro is not Le Monde... Yes it's true. The writer (Alexandre Alder) was describing Moore as "honable" in the sense that he met and liked him personally, respects that Moore grew up poor and apeals to "everyday Americans", but questions his "lucidity" as a film maker (disputing facts etc...), and that the standing ovation he received is not much different from anti-western standing ovations you would see in China or in the old Soviet Union. But in conclusion (and you will like this one), the writer objects that in the eve of the D-Day celebrations, such attitudes are completely inapropriate.

Michael Moore look like shaved buffalo butt, only smell worse.

How can I beleive in a country of my ancestors who's priorities seem to be the preservation of their vanities and egos. An example is when their language was passed over in the computer industry, they seem hell bent on changing it. Another one is their smug ways of putting down a great cyclist in Lance Armstrong just because he's an American. The french newspaper Le Mond seems to be Frances un-official watchdog on steroid abuse but pass over their own. Their small minds cannot accept his talents as a great racer. When they lose a war, which seems to be an on going thing, they blame United States as a war monger. They were the last European Country to let go of their satelite in French Indo China after WW2 and we got our tit in a ringer for backing them up. If it wouldn't cost so damn much I would have the courts change my name to Joe Smith. When I'm introduced to people their reaction is ,"Oh your French.", and mine is, "NAME ONLY!".
