Digital Cameras

Jim and Key are both wanting advice on digital cameras. So go fill up their comments with suggestions. After Jim buys one he said he'll let me know what he got and how he likes it. Then I may finally break down and buy one myself.

What's the price range? Under $300, just get something cheap, and plan to upgrade later. The new Digital SLRs look nifty, but you'll be outlaying $1k or more for them.

Personally, I've got a Fuji Finepix 2400. Swiped it from Mom, who got it for $90 2 years ago at the HSN storefront (yeah, slightly oxymoronic, huh?). 3X optical, 2 megapixel.

You didn't say what they knew, or what they needed. So in general: Don't worry with "digital zoom". Meaningless. (it really doesn't work well) Look only at the true optical zoom. 3x is sadly about the most I see. A friend had a great HP with a 10x optical, really nifty. Next, make sure media for it is easily available (usually not a problem).

*groan* This has to be done, but why does it feel like such a chore?
