Convention Day 4

Sorry. Don't have anything to write about the convention tonight. Stumpy is gonna introduce Lurch at 9:55 and then Lurch is supposed to speak for an hour. After listening to him for an hour and trying to stay awake, I will be in no condition after his speech to write anything. I will try to stay awake and take notes and review his speech tomorrow.

Here is what I think he's gonna say:

1. I know about the military because I served in Viet Nam.

2. I know all about poverty because I saw it in Viet Nam.

3. I know about the environment because we did a lot of environmental damage to Viet Nam.

4. Did you know that I served in Viet Nam?

5. I'm gonna raise taxes on the top 1% of taxpayers. Edwards said what? Oh I mean the top 2% of taxpayers.

6. I know about hunger because I saw a lot of hungry children in Viet Nam.

7. I'm gonna go to the United Nations and beg for forgiveness.

8. I'm gonna give Jacques Chirac a blowjob.

9. Did you know that I served in Viet Nam?

10. I'm gonna send Jimmah Carter back to North Korea.

11. I'm gonna fix education because I saw a lot of uneducated children in Viet Nam.

12. I'm gonna fix the Israeli/Palestinian problem.

13. Did you know that I served in Viet Nam?

14. I'm not George Bush.

15. Did you know that I served in Viet Nam?

16. Band of Brothers.

17. Did you know that I served in Viet Nam?

We'll see how well I did later tonight.

Not enough emphasis on Viet Nam.

Let's just say that I heard it, and it's nothing new. Disagreed with pretty much everything.

What's really funny about Kerry is that he defends his choice to vote to authorize Bush to declare war on Iraq, but when he's talking about energy, he says "We'll never send our children into harm's way because of our dependence on foreign oil." Jeez, what's the implication here? Or "We'll never go to war because we want to, only if we need to."

So, according to John Kerry's two criticisms of this conflict, he voted to authorize Bush to further our career as Oil-Imperialist-Hyperpower-Bully-That-Europe-Hates-etc etc. in a voluntary war.

Not blatantly flip-flopping, but clearly contradicting himself (surprise)

He's gonna use Poof! PFM! to reduce our dependency on foreign oil.

Posted by: Denny Wilson on July 29, 2004 11:39 PM

Kerry did better than expected on the speech and appealed to the emotions of his base.

Whether or not this will translate into a bounce in polling, I don't know. There was no real substance, in my opinion, that is necessary to create real interest among those few who are still undecided.

If one remembers 1984 and Walter Mondale's acceptance speech, his statement that he was going to raise taxes doomed his campaign.

Kerry stated that he was going to do away with the tax cuts on the top two per cent. During the primaries Kerry said he would use the extra money for health care and education. If this is done, then this money could not be used to balance the budget. I expect the Bush campaign to hit Kerry hard on this issue. This is NOT negative campaigning.

I missed the film about Kerry and his exploits in Vietnam. I have seen home video images over the past few months of Kerry lurching through the jungle carrying a weapon. What stands out like a sore thumb is that he is not wearing a camouflage cover on his steel pot. Puts me in mind of an FNG.

I guess a camouflage cover might be out of place on a boat, too.

'Our Best Days Are Still to Come' Didn't some dead guy that Democrats hate become famous for that line? I could swear it was that guy, what's-his-face, who just died...whateverhisnameis.

Yet another reason to add to my copious list of reasons to have nothing but disgust and contempt for the Democrat Party. They trot out Jimmy "History's Greatest Monster" Carter to critique George W. Bush on foreign policy, particularly NORTH KOREA, when it is Carter who is most responsible for the US getting sucker-punched by them. His proclivity to prostrate himself afore Communist tyrants led to this and he has the unmitigated gall, the chutzpah to criticize Bush.

Now, during an acceptance speech, they steal the line of the most famous conservative President in US history. A line he was famous far partly because its optimism stood in stark contrast to the theme of stagnation and malaise that surrounded his predecessor. That man was Jimmah Carter, a veritable god to the Democrat Party.

Then John "Life begins at Conception" Kerry speaks on family values. He has a 100% rating from NARAL. Were his 'values' implemented the land over, there would be no families because there would be no children.

Bloody Hell. The mere notion of intellectual consistency seems alien to them.

Did you know he was in Vietnam? I keep getting hints of this but cannot find information to confirm.

And someone made a boo-boo heard 'round the nation.

Posted by: addison on July 30, 2004 12:06 AM

I went down to the Arizona HQ for the Bush campain, and listened to the wind bag fill all the baloons with HOT air. And they wonder why they didnt come down. I a reading a copy of the speech now just incase I missed something. Like the fact he rode a bike into East Berlin when he was a child, didn't the city kinda have a big WALL around it with Russians at the gates. I thought he was a card carrying member of the Communist Party.

Viva Bush

Kerry was in Viet Nam?? I love reading your posts! Keep up the great work!!

Posted by: Dan on July 30, 2004 04:12 AM

Kerry talked about requiring a balanced budget. Can you imagine Kerry and a Democratic Congress' explanation/solution when they can't come up with enough money to pay for a new program?

"Hmm...this is a very complex situation...wait! I know! Raise taxes on that goddamn top 2%! Rich bastards."

Posted by: Eric on July 30, 2004 05:16 AM

ok, I like his policies, but wish kerry would shut up about Vietnam. We get the sodding message! enoough with the saluting! yes, you were in that war. no be a good little grendel and tell us about your policies

Posted by: matthew g on July 30, 2004 05:20 AM

Eric,

Then Kerry would soon go on to say, "And if raising taxes on the top two isn't enough, we'll raise everybodies taxes - even those on Social Security."

Sound familiar?

Posted by: T D on July 30, 2004 06:04 AM

Matthew - Kerry has to mention Viet Nam to try and make everyone overlook how he has voted against every major weapons system since he has been in the Senate. He also voted to gut the intelligence agencies. Every time someone brings up his voting record he, and his little mascot Stumpy, claim that the Republicans are calling him unpatriotic. They've been pulling that bullshit for the last six months. His two major talking points are he is not George Bush and he served in Viet Nam.

Posted by: Denny Wilson on July 30, 2004 09:06 AM

Now now, addison...

You know being a Democrat means never having to say you were wrong..... even as you defend your position that's exactly opposite of what it was, and claim both are right.....

Posted by: Addison (the other one) on July 30, 2004 11:03 AM

Matthew:

"I like his policies"

Really? Which ones and why?

(my jab is directed at him, not you, by the way)

Posted by: Addison (the other one) on July 30, 2004 11:04 AM

Anyone else notice how the dems used a lot of words they took from Republicans? The optimism theme they've taken from the Gipper is one, but I also heard the trial lawyer say to the terrorists "you cannot run, you cannot hide..." (taken from some W speeches) and thursday someone before kerrey (biden?) said "we will not falter, we will not fail..."

So they can't even come up with their own words? And what happened to the anti-Iraq war wing of the party?

Posted by: Daniel on July 30, 2004 11:54 AM

Yeah and Edwards said they were gonna go after terrorists. Let's see. We have two lawyers. What are they gonna do? Sue them?

Posted by: Denny Wilson on July 30, 2004 12:04 PM

Have you heard of the Kerry drinking game? Take one drink for everytime he says "veteran," two for everytime he says "Viet Nam," and three for everytime he says "band of brothers."

This is to be used with extreme caution, or at least only when you're ready to get seriously wasted.

Posted by: Veryalda Relisys on July 30, 2004 02:11 PM

I think the point of the "theft" of republican ideas is to say they don't belong to one party. I'm a democrat and the thing that most irritates us is republicans insisting you can't be a patriotic american or believe in America's future unless you're republican. Kerry and the DNC were whipping up the base with that one even though all of the pundits thought they were trying to reach across the aisle. If it works in that vein, fine, but that wasn't really the point of it.
I think they're lifting some rhetoric directly to basically take it out of the GOP's repertoire (OMG - a french word!) for this campaign, that's the only advantage they can get out of having their convention first. I don't rate it a big edge, since W can spend out-of-his-mind for the next four weeks and Kerry can't really answer; he's bound by the federal spending limits since he accepted the nomination.

Posted by: Geeno on July 30, 2004 04:54 PM

Oh, by the way Addison. Democrats apologize all the time; it's George "My Pet Goat" Bush who can't recall making a mistake.

Posted by: Geeno on July 30, 2004 04:57 PM

The reason they did it is the same as the reason the republicans will support b.s. like precription drug benefits - although it offends their base, it caters to the middle ground swing voters both parties need to win.

And if it truly represents the ideas of both parties, why was there so much anti-war noise last year and during the early primaries by the dems? Because that's how they feel. They only muted those positions during the convention to avoid alienating the swing voters they need.

Posted by: Daniel on July 30, 2004 05:29 PM

Geeno:
"I'm a democrat and the thing that most irritates us is republicans insisting you can't be a patriotic american or believe in America's future unless you're republican."

Well, it would irritate me too. Too bad it's not true. That's called Projection, geeno. The Democrats are projecting that allegation, because they're trying to defuse it, and or THEY believe it and think others do too.

Of course, you can show me specific speeches where Bush said you had to be a Republican to be a patriot. But I suspect you'll just leave it vague and tell me that "They exist, he says it all the time".

Just like "Republicans are critizising Kerry on his vietnam service" - I've not seen a single GOP critisism. Not one. I've seen lots, but they're not from the Republicans, or Bush/Cheney (most are from the guys who were there *with* kerry - and aren't getting media play, you might note), and were *I* in the running, I'd be making much more hash of that.

"Democrats apologize all the time; it's George "My Pet Goat" Bush who can't recall making a mistake."

Ah. That would explain why he apologised for the 16 words when there was a possibility it could have been bad information, when it turns out that it's true, and the person who claimed the 16 words was wrong (feted at the DNC) was lying, and knew that those words were not only true, but backed by fact.

Right. That's why Kerry blamed the *catcher* for throwing the ball in the dirt.

Speaking of which:
http://www.americandigest.org/mt-archives/001966.php

I think everybody will want to see that.

So, he cheats, fails, and blames someone else?

What was that about character, Genno? Admitting failure? Well, maybe it's not his fault. Maybe when the SOB Secret Service agent cold-cocked him on the slopes, he got Tourettes.

Posted by: Addison (the other one) on July 30, 2004 06:11 PM

Geeno - The Dimocrats have to run as Republicans or they won't get elected. That's what happened to Cleland in Georgia. When he was first elected he ran as a Zell Miller Dimocrat. When he got to the Senate he voted as a Tom Daschle Dimocrat. He said Republicans accused him of not being patriotic, which seems to be a Dimocrat theme this year. Every time Republicans bring up a soft on defense voting record they whine about Republicans accusing them of not being patriotic. Soft on defense does not mean unpatriotic. Anyway, we in Georgia looked at Cleland's voting record and threw him out of office. Babyface is so liberal that he couldn't be re-elected to the Senate in North Carolina. If kerry told us what he really planned i.e a tax increase on everyone, he wouldn't get elected, so he's running as a Republican. The Dimocrats are bereft of ideas and are all 60's anti-war liberals. Zell Miller was right.

Posted by: Denny Wilson on July 30, 2004 06:34 PM

geeno - it's called Soros, Tides Foundation, and 527s, Cabana Boy doesn't have to spend a cent.

--I don't rate it a big edge, since W can spend out-of-his-mind for the next four weeks and Kerry can't really answer; he's bound by the federal spending limits since he accepted the nomination.--

Kerry's Economic Remedy Won't Be Revealed Before Election
By Nathan Burchfiel
CNSNews.com Correspondent
July 30, 2004

(CNSNews.com) - A top economic advisor to Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said the public won't hear Kerry's financial plans until after he's elected - if he's elected.

In the Aug. 2 cover story of "Business Week," former Clinton administration treasury secretary Robert Rubin said, "I don't think you can make proposals to try to dig out of this hole until you've gotten elected ... If you start to put out proposals now, they would be vigorously attacked and they would in effect become tainted so they couldn't be used."

In short, Trust me, I'm from the government and I'm here to help you.

----

My husband's business is a a nice chunk this year, I told him tonight better this year than if Kerry wins.

Guess he'll have to cut back which means less work for other people.
