Election Day

My friends Michael and Cindy came over to watch the election results last night. I grilled some steaks and we ate in front of the television. My sister and her husband could not make it for dinner because the lines were too long in South Carolina and they did not get on the road until late. By the time they arrived we had finished dinner.

Michael was gonna bring some Champagne but after hearing the news all day about exit polls showing Flipper winning he decided not to and brought a Chardonnay instead. It was a good Chardonnay though.

I wasn't too confident either.

As the evening went on we started feeling better as the numbers coming in were much better than the exit polling numbers. Winning Florida by a solid majority was huge.

Cindy had pooped out and they went home around midnight. Ryan and I stayed up until 2:30. We were watching Fox, but every now and then I turned over to CBS to see how Gunga Dan was taking it. CBS still hadn't called Ohio even though Fox and NBC had.

Looking at the local news we saw that Republicans, who had taken over the Georgia Senate in the last election had taken over the Georgia House in this election. That was also huge! For the first time Rebublicans now control both houses of the legislature, has two Republican senators, and a Republican governor. The only real bad news was the return of Cynthia McKinney.

I felt so good about the election that I had a cognac before going to bed at 2:30 AM.

Not only did Bush win the Electoral College, but he also won the popular vote. Take that Michael Moore! Also, he won a majority, something Bill Clinton was never able to accomplish.

To make things even better, Tom Daschle lost! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I was watching Fox this morning and they had that crone Eleanor Clift on. She looked to be on the verge of tears.

I love the sight of liberals crying in the morning. It looks like victory.

I just learned (~3:20PM) that Bush won. Avoided all news coverage yesterday. Daschle gone. Jim DeMint in SC replacing bigot Hollings. A good day for America.

A jig will be forthcoming. Then I will see if a Mercedes can burn an entire tank of gas doing burnouts in a parking lot.

http://www.michaelmoore.com/ has shut his site apart from the sick picture of Bush made up of the dead of the Iraq campaign. How typical how graceless and how much more determined it will make people to stop treasonable activities by the likes of Moore abusing the same rights of free speech that these soldiers died to protect. Do you think he is grateful to them?

Oh silly kitty. You see the hype but not the truth. You see, offering something of value in exchange for a vote is a violation of election laws. As silly as it seems, clean underwear or Raman noodles are still things of value. But then, since when has the truth ever mattered to Michael the Hutt?

Posted by: Ryan on November 3, 2004 08:41 PM

"ahhaha you people are so blind!"

Have you considered perhaps you're the blind one?

"Bush again for 4 more years of hell!?"

'More'? Other than 9/11, which was hardly Bush's to control - the hijackers trained during Clinton's term, and would have been in the air no matter if Gore or Nader were president - what's been "Hell" for you?

Well, you are 14. Those years are hellish. But, chin up, they're hellish no matter WHO is president. Even if Kerry had been president, the cheerleaders aren't going to the prom with you. And your acne won't be better with a Trial Lawyer in charge of medical reform. Trust Me.

How about the non-hellish things? We've taken the fight away from these shores. In other words, you can go to high school, and not worry about terrorists. (And the worries you should have are due to pandering to the mostly-left 'immigration lobby' - which Bush did, so what's your beef?).

With Bush as CiC we have freed women in 2 repressive countries. We've won in Afghanistan, which in 01 was considered to be impossible. We've won in Iraq, which in 02 was said to "Be no Afghanistan".

Actually, some history for you.
91 - "Iraq will be another Vietnam" (War won outstandingly in a matter of weeks)
01 - "AFghanistan will be another Vietnam! Broke the USSR! Broke the British Empire! Won't be an Iraq" (Saddam, would you like to comment on OBL's representation?). The Brutal Afghan Winter! (Now 3 years late). Hundreds of thousands dead of starvation (Instead, we saved tens of thousands the Taliban (who were mostly non-Afghan) was preventing from getting food).
02 - "Iraq won't be as easy as Afghanistan!"

We went through Iraq faster than Germany went through France. And with the loss of a whole quadrant of men and plans - when Turkey wasn't paid enough, and the 4th Infantry wasn't allowed to attack from that angle.

1000 men dashed into Baghdad in "Thunder Run". Held the positions against 100,000 Iraqis. Others supplied them - driving tankers of gas and ammunition past RPG postions.

We seized the "Impossible Fortress" of Baghdad 2 days later.

"Now they control the house and senate even more?!"

If they controlled it before, then your beef is again, nonsensical.

"Wow, conservatives control america how great!"

Not being a "real" conservative, I have some worries.

However, most of what I hear the screaming about (from you, and people like you) is utterly, totally, bogus bullshit.

Ashcroft isn't the antichrist. Nor is he dismantling the Bill of Rights. He's respected it more, actually, than the previous tenant of that office. Bush not only hasn't rounded up the homosexuals into concentration camps (as was promised by people like you (including, if I recall, Michael Moore) in the 00 campaign), he's not even rounded up the Muslims/Middle Eastern into camps, like was predicted by your guys 9/12 and 9/13. Hell, he's not even SECURED THE DAMN BORDER.

So, other than being an unthinking (dare I say, blind) advocate of Michael Moore (And every movie he's made has been shown to be based on, and with many falsehoods and editing people to give a false impression)...... What's left for you to worry about?

And Addison I doubt America is much safer...the borders aren't sealed, ports are unprotected, and it's easier to get into the U.s through Canada then it is to sit and twiddle your thumbs! And we didn't really "Free" them, they're still living in a hellhole of a country, all we've done is take over their land and invaded their country for oil... the war in Iraq was like an elephant versus an ant! And no Bush hasn't done anything to homosexuals, but how do you know what's going on behind closed doors to Middle Eastern people?

"Like a blind man leading the deaf" - Sooo true

"And Addison I doubt America is much safer...the borders aren't sealed, ports are unprotected, and it's easier to get into the U.s through Canada then it is to sit and twiddle your thumbs!"

Ok. So Bush has failed to seal the borders, and stop illegal immigration, etc.

OK, see, now we get to the learning process.

Explain how Gore would have done it. Simply saying he would have had a plan, won't work. Remember, those "undocumented worker" organizations campaign for Democrats.

How would YOUR candidate have _fixed_ that problem, since you've now taken the position that your candidate would have?

How could Kerry have done that?

"And we didn't really "Free" them, they're still living in a hellhole of a country"

Well, if you want to be a close-minded racist, that's your perogative. _What_ makes it a hellhole? Versus, say, any particular spot in North America?

You really haven't thought this out much, have you.

So women are voting, 2 years ago, they were property. But there's no change, and you won't credit Bush.

Who's being blind here?

Posted by: Addison (the other one) on November 3, 2004 09:34 PM

Cat Shit - Do you know anyone who has been to Iraq? I do. The Iraqis are better off. Women are now allowed to get an education. There is more electricity than when Saddam ran the country. And the torture chambers are closed.

Posted by: Denny Wilson on November 3, 2004 10:06 PM

I don't think either parties want to do anything about illegal immigration...they're making billions off these poor migrant workers who work on the farms for practically nothing and don't even have SS numbers. And ok, I agree with what you two said about the Iraqi women, and I apologize. I'm just a little upset Kerry lost, and I'm not a closed-minded racist. One last thing, please stop calling me catshit just because I have a different opinion doesn't mean you have to treat me like garbage.

If you're saying that your alternative would be no better, at best, then you can't use that as a argument in favor of your alternative.

You of course, can note failure, but it's not a reason to change. If you get a flat tire, and your spare is also flat, do you change tires anyway?

Kerry lost. And this was a race where his blemishes were polished out by the media, and Bush's warts were magnified (or non-existant ones Photoshopped.. or .Doc'ed). Think about what a "fair" press would have turned this race into?

But it's not enough to hurl insults. The problem is to the left - that's all they have. You're leaving open the other questions to you. Why are you calling us blind for re-electing a CiC who enjoys _75%_ support among those in US uniform? Who has been the most successful CiC?

Posted by: Addison (the other one) on November 4, 2004 12:42 AM

Ok, I totally agree with what you've just said. I really appreciate not shouting absurd names at me, but I just don't think Bush was the best choice. And yeah the media doesn't really expose everything that needs to be exposed... I don't get why 75% of those in "US Uniform" endorse him...oh well I'm still upset that the House, senate, the commander in chief and the supreme court(i think) is republican, but I accept defeat and I guess we have to wait until '08 when we see an equal share of power between the two major parties.

Y'know, it alwas amazes me that LLL like MaoMix holler that "the borders aren't secure!" but if we really did tighten up the borders and put armed guards at airports, ports of entry and just on genral border patrol, those same cretins would be hollering that it was the second coming of the Gestapo & KGB all rolled up in one and that their freedoms were being threatened. Dumbshits, you can't have it both ways.

"Mommie, mommie, that man in the uniform guarding the door has a big, scary gun and he looked at me and now I'm traumatized. Get me an appointment with my counceller or I'll be ruined for life and you'll be sorry! Wahhhhhhh!!

Posted by: Clutch on November 4, 2004 10:59 AM

"but I just don't think Bush was the best choice."

In this election? He was the only choice.

And I don't just mean that rudely. The Democrats are, with the exception of a few, such as Zell, the party of "anti". Dare to oppose them, you're a "hater". This isn't a way to build a decent system.

Social Security is going under. It's a Ponzi scheme that's starting to teeter. Had Kerry won, reforming it would be nigh impossible. We might still not get it reformed - but if we don't, then it will fall over of it's own accord, someday. That's not a maybe, that's not Hillary would kill it, or save it - it *will* fall over as it's currently constituted. The only question is when, and how much pain it will take in the meantime.

Look at the economies and social systems of France and Germany. Both are approaching the cliff at high speed - and people are starting to notice - but not _doing_ anything about it. Or squabbling about what to do. France's plan, is apparently, to get payoffs from the East European countries to be allowed into the EU. That'll last for a few more years. Then....

You're still repeating MM's talking points, MM. (Is that why you picked your name?).

"I don't get why 75% of those in "US Uniform" endorse him..."

Well, that is the single most important stat I can think of. Ruminate on that. Try and figure out why the men and women in uniform, in harm's way (apparently, in combat units, the % is over 80) - not only prefer Bush, they OVERWHELMINGLY want Bush. I don't think you can find stats like that even during WWII for Roosevelt.

Because that is a measure of a leader. Instead of calling them dumb, seriously - try and look at Bush through their eyes. He's the guy giving the orders.

You don't remember Carter. But the military does. Post-Vietnam, Carter, inflation... They did a number on the military. Reagan was able to do a lot to fix it. Bush I had military support. Clinton didn't, but things were pretty good elsewhere.... It wasn't as obvious. But I know lots of guys who got out of the military soley because Clinton was CiC.

Try and see it from their eyes.

"oh well I'm still upset that the House, senate, the commander in chief and the supreme court(i think) is republican"

No. Bush may get to nominate 1-3 SC justices, though. I suspect they'll be very damn good jurists.

"but I accept defeat and I guess we have to wait until '08 when we see an equal share of power between the two major parties."

Unless the Democrats stop the path they're on - it will get worse, very likely. Even if they win the Presidency, the Senate and House will still remain solidly Republican, and probably more so.

The question you need to ask yourself, why is that? (and answering my previous ones might enlighten you some).

Posted by: Addison (the other one) on November 4, 2004 01:49 PM

Why did they lose? Simple.

Moral Values.

The Democrats have a problem talking about God.

So all the poor rural folk who would have been better off voting for the party of the welfare state instead voted for the guy who "was like them" and was against gay marriage.

He also goes to church, and a "good man".

This is how Bush won, despite a finicky economy, an unpopular war, job losses, and being outspent by the competition.

This is now a culture war. It is Progressive, Secular, and Urban people versus Conservative, Religious, and Rural people. A lot of people in this election voted against their economic interests. Why are the rural poor voting for Bush and the urban well off voting for Kerry? Values are trumping economic interests. Interesting that the party of the "Tax cuts for the upper class" won from support from the lower class. Interesting that Soros, one of the richest men in America, would support the party of welfare and taxing the rich.

.

The Democrats need an answer. Someone who has down home values, and a populist working man message. Someone like Clinton in 92. Someone who can appeal to their values AND their pocketbook. Hillary isn't the answer, she's a New Yorker, now. Even liberals hate her. Edwards has that appeal, but won't be working for the next 4 years on the one thing he lacked, experience. Obama is a great candidate, but one must ask if America is ready for a African American president. Maybe in 2012, after his 1st Senate term. That certainly won't help appeal to the white southern male.

I honestly think Kerry was the best candidate. And he certainly came close. If we didn't have 2000, this election certainly would have been thought a nail-biter. Lieberman and Gephardt had better moderate records to run on, but neither of them were more "likable" than Kerry was.

Thanks for your time, and good luck to this administration. At least now they'll have four more years to fix the problems they started. Four years from now, if Iraq or the deficit gets out of control, no one will be blamed except George W. Bush. I hope that doesn't happen. I also hope there is an honest attempt to govern from the center. This election proves that America is both right and left, 51% to 48%. It should be governed that way.

Posted by: Robin Palm on November 4, 2004 09:28 PM

Robin - You still don't get it. Look at the map. Look at the fact that the Dimocrats lost seats in both the Senate and The House. Your party is out of touch. The "tax cuts for the rich" mantra doesn't work anymore. The only reason the election was as close as it was was due to media bias. Had Dan Rather and CBS got away with Memogate, Kerry would have won. He was a flawed candidate. The best candidate the Dimocrats could have run was Joe Lieberman but he was not liberal enough for the base.

And can you explain to me why the welfare state is the best choice? Do you really want the United States to become another France or Germany? Welfare state? And you call yourself a left leaning libertarian?

Do you know why Clinton was such a good candidate? He was lucky to get elected in 1992 (42% of the vote). but in 1996 he ran as a Republican. He supported NAFTA (which pissed off a lot of Dimocrats) and welfare reform (which pissed off even more Dimocrats). Other than his foreign policy and judicial appointments, he was a pretty good Republican president. The Dimocrats had no choice but supporting him because he was the only game in town.

But keep on drinking the Dimocrat Kool-Aide. As I have told you many times, the Dimocrats were on the wrong side of history during the Cold War, and they are on the wrong side of history during the WOT.

As for values? Hey, maybe character does really matter. Maybe we don't want another Clinton. We had a draft dodger in the White House. We don't need a traitor.

Posted by: Denny Wilson on November 4, 2004 10:33 PM

No. Denny, you don't get it. I'm not defending the Democrat Party. It is out of touch. It has an image problem. It can't talk about God or Values. That's why it lost. "It's the economy, stupid" didn't work. Running a northerner only got it 258 electoral votes. Running a southerner that didn't win any southern states only got it 268 votes.

I don't approve of the welfare state. I'm asking why did the rural poor vote AGAINST the party of the 'welfare state' and the urban well off voted FOR it. People are voting AGAINST their pocket books. The democrats don't get that yet. The republicans do.

Values... Culture. That's what it's about.

And joe lieberman is a flawed candidate. He's Jewish. No way America will vote in a Jewish president in a time of war with Islamic militants. That's just asking for another 9/11. And you bet your ass that would have been in the Republican campaign.

"wrong side, wrong side" I know how you feel about the Democrats and war. The Democrats haven't had the opportunity to be on ANY side on the war on terror. They haven't controlled anything. Iraq and the WOT is all in Bush's basket. And that's the only thing I'm happy about Bush's reelection. When/If Iraq turns to shit... it's all his fault.

Maybe the Democrats will get their shit together by 2008. At least to give the government some balance... and checks and balances.

Posted by: Robin Palm on November 4, 2004 11:16 PM

Egads. I agree with Robin on some of that. I really don't think he's defending the Democrat party... sounds to me like he's acknowledging they're out of touch and that's why they can't get elected.

STOp that, Robin. It makes it hard to be mean to you. ;]
