This is a three dimensional view of the election sent to me by Charlieb. Just can't get enough maps.

Let's look a little closer at what this map is telling us.
Look on the Left Coast. It's pretty obvious where Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle are isn't it?
In the upper Midwest, there's Chicago, Detroit and Cleveleland. I think the smaller ones to the west are Madison Wisconsin and Minneapolis-St. Paul.
In the lower Midwest it's easy to find St. Louis and Kanses City.
And in South Florida we can see where the dingbats live who were too stupid to vote properly in the 2000 election.
The Northeast seems to be a solid block right up the coast.
Do you notice that where there are large concentrations of people they tend to be liberal and vote for Dimocrats? Where people are spread out, they tend to vote Republican.
Someone once did an experiment with rats. The experiment showed that as the population density of the rats went up they started going crazy. Maybe that explains liberalism. It can also explain that even though socialism has been an abject failure every place it has been tried there are still a lot of people (those in the blue areas) who think it will work if only the right people (those in the blue areas) are in charge.
Think about it.
LOL Denny! I guess that explanation will have to work; I'm sure as hell not going to get a logical one out of them. I went there. I tried. I failed.
Posted by: Key on November 9, 2004 02:18 PMI also find it ironic that most tree-huggers are liberals--THUS most of those tree-huggers are living smack-dab in the middle of highly-populated cities, where the only tree they've most likely wrapped their unwashed arms around is within convenient walking-distance to the Starbucks.
I wonder what the average shelf-life of an isolated backwoods hippie commune is...? I'd ask my Mom but she never stayed around long enough to find out...*grin*

Can't say that I disagree.
Best map of the U.S. vote that I've seen.
Posted by: Woody on November 9, 2004 07:02 PMDid that experiment with the rats. On a ping-pong table the critical population was about 630. At that point they rejected the provided food and commenced to kill and eat each other. This continued till there were only two large males.
I can't leap to the Roe Effect- yet.
It really struck me how the blue areas are predominantly urban, and the red areas largely rural (with a few exceptions).
I wonder if there is something in the general migration from rural to urban areas that will gradually see a shift in voting percentages (blue areas, although smaller geographically, will decide votes). This could also be true in terms of immigration -- immigrants tend to settle in urban areas. Of course, the migration of red rats to blue areas could make some really tall red towers as well!!
Posted by: canucktuk on November 10, 2004 01:54 AMThe problem I'm seeing is that the rats from large urban areas are moving down South and being generally obnoxious and rude. I have a line for all of you people:
WE DON'T CARE HOW YOU DO IT UP NORTH.
I had an uppity boss who couldn't STAND Virginia. Hated the climate, hated the people, but sure liked the money. I got fed up one day when she was in mid-rant, looked her right in the eye, and said, "Delta is ready when you are. If you don't like it here, leave." Finally shut her up and she left me alone. She went back to Michigan, thank goodness.

I love this map. Much better than the distortion maps for population showing, and much more informative than the state or county maps.

Enjoy your site!
