So now we have some blue staters saying that "since that slavery thing has been settled" maybe they should go ahead and let those red states secede. After all as one screed went, the blue states pay the taxes and the money is spent in the red states. I really don't see what they are complaining about. After all the people in the blue states are socialists and don't they agree with "From Each According To His Abilities, To Each According To His Needs"? Don't they want to take care of us poor stupid country bumpkins in the red states? Where is their compassion? I thought they were the caring people?
Let's look at Kim du Toit's map again.

One of the nice things about this map is he's made the Dimocrat stronghold in the Northeast red which is an apt color since this is where the socialists live and run things. He's also picked up the part of Canada that is more conservative and given the French speaking part of Canada to the People's Soviet of Eastern America.
Let's look at the blue section. What do we have? A lot of wide open spaces that have lots of interstate highways that are paid for by the federal gummint. What else do we have? We have farms and livestock. We also have a bunch of military bases.
During the last four years what have been the two most abominable spending bills? The farm bill that was loaded with gobs and gobs of pork. We were supposed to wean the farmers off the public teat but that didn't happen after Bush got elected. It only got worse. And yes, I am pissed that he didn't veto it. Not pissed enough to vote for Flipper, but I was pissed.
An abominable transportation bill was passed during the last four years. It was a disgrace also. It should have been vetoed. It wasn't.
I think those two bills accounted for a lot of money that went to the red states.
Just because of crap like this, I think the Constitution should be amended to give the president a line item veto, and no, it does not violate the seperation of powers because just like with any veto the congress can override it. If nothing else, this would point out all the pork that gets attached to a spending bill.
Back to secession. Warning to raving moonbats. Be careful what you wish for. Where do you think most of the food comes from? Where does most of the domestic natural gas and oil come from? And if we pick up central Canada we get even more. We got coal also. Manufacturing? Why would we want the rust belt? Labor costs are cheaper in the South. Why else do you think BMW and Mercedes built plants in the South?
We also have technology. We got Research Triangle in North Carolina. STK is in Boulder, Colorado. Austen and Dallas in Texas have a large technology presence. So does Atlanta. Modern industry is moving south and if Ahnold can't fix California lots of companies will be moving out of there. Many already have.
So go ahead Kerry lovers and Michael Moore worshippers, secede. We got the food, we got the oil, we got cheap labor, and we got technology. We'll do just fine. You will be screwed!
We'll probably also be able to shrink the size of gummint.
I agree 100% about the line item veto.

Posted by: Robert on November 10, 2004 10:03 PMI'd like to point out that if it were not for Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Mateo counties....Callyfornia would be a "red" state. Those of us living in Callyfornia would be happy to get rid of those 3 counties anyway. Nothing but girly men. They are also responsible for those 2 HORRIBLE senators from here too.

It'd be nice if, just once, someone did their research... Southern Ontario (hint: part of Canada) is just as conservative as your average US state. It's also NOT part of Quebec.
And most Canadians would enjoy being a part of the US as much as Americans want to be part of the European Union.
It's nothing personal - you're generally nice enough neighbours. I've been there and enjoyed my visits. I just prefer my parliamentary monarchy and socialized healthcare. We also enjoy the lack of personal attack-laden, mudslinging, 12-month-too-long election campaigns. They last ~30 days up here. No primaries. No 6 month tour of the nation. No saturation of the media.
