Career Transition Services Seminar

As part of my Redeployment Package from TCIDNN (The Company I Dare Not Name) I was given Career Transition Services.

Redeployment Package = You are redeployed out the door. Here's a parting gift. Where do they keep coming up with these euphemisms for losing one's job?

Career Transition = You have been career transitioned out the door.

In my case, I retired, but out of the goodness of TCIDNN's heart (And just to cover their asses and get me to leave two months earlier than I planned) they gave me a package. The package consists of some money and Career Transition Services.

I was called two weeks ago by a representative of the company (Which I shall call the Career Transition Services Company or CTSC for short) and given a date to attend an orientation seminar. I'm not really planning on working anymore, unless it's a part time job doing sumpin' I enjoy, but I figgered since this is a free benefit what do I have to lose?

So I showed up at CTSC this morning for my orientation session. CTSC is essentially a job placement service company. They supply training in interview techniques, resume writing, and other skills needed to find a job.

There were five of us who showed up this morning and we were shown around the center. There were PC's, printers, a copier, and a fax machine. If we needed to mail out a resume they would pay the postage.

The orientation was a Powerpoint presentation over the web with a dial in number. We would be just one of the many CTSC sites throughout the country. The local person got everything set up and dialed the call in number.

The person doing the web presentation was one of those really upbeat Cathy Cheerleader types.

Rah! Rah! Sis boom bah! We know you people just lost your jobs but don't worry, CTSC will help you find new jobs. Never Fear! CTSC is here!

After giving a brief history of CTSC, Cathy Cheerleader then started talking about the process of fining a new job and some of the services that CTSC offered.

One of the services offered is training via web based seminars called, oddly enough, webinars. These teach resume writing, interview techniques, networking, and all the other things needed to get a new job. If I were actually looking for a job, this would be pretty neat stuff. They do have some retirement webinars that I may take advantage of.

Cathy also took us through an online demonstration of the CTSC web site that we can use to access CTSC functions.

We also get our very own counselor who will aid us in finding employment.

In my case, all of this is paid for by TCIDNN.

What a deal!

Mine was through Right Management Consultants. Nice folks. They really polished my resume. They really weren't in a position to help me with job contacts considering my field but they meant well.

Now if I could just find a job.
