Nate, the reason there's any head left at all is because the bullet struck inside the top quarter of the skull. A hit in the center (through the nose) would have removed the entire head.

I think a lot of people have been brain washed with this blanket definition of terrorism and how terrorists are inherently cowards because their actions don't follow "honorable" rules of engagement. So this whole idea of him being a terrorist "plain and simple" doesn't really wash with me. Under these laws, all combatants must wear a uniform. And FYI, the german soldiers who put civies on over their uniforms while infiltrating and were caught, were executed, not imprisoned. Our pilots, who were caught by the Nazis escaping and not in uniform were shot also.
Rebles must declare a uniform or distinctive badge to show who and what they are.

First off, the Geneva Accord is a plan divvying up the West Bank in regards Israeli-Palestinian conflict; I think you mean the various Geneva conventions. And more often than anything else, they've been used by the US to classify a majority of the people we're fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq as "unlawful combatants" and therefore not entitled to the protections of the Geneva conventions. The US is currently also looking to fudge some of the existing points of the conventions in regards to holding pow's and what exactly constitutes torture. Geneva conventions aside, I don't recall any rebel uprisings ever following their guidelines.

Bottom line, terrorism is a relativist term for the violence committed by an enemy, from the point of view of who he's attacking. How exactly do you think the majority of the people in Iraq view the US there?

Just so you know, there are over 100 treaties known as Geneva accords. The one I was refering to is the one best known, Geneva Convention (III) Relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War; August 12, 1949.
Here is an excert from it:

(2) Members of other militias and members of other volunteer corps, including those of organized resistance movements, belonging to a Party to the conflict and operating in or outside their own territory, even if this territory is occupied, provided that such militias or volunteer corps, including such organized resistance movements, fulfil the following conditions: (a) that of being commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates; (b) that of having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance; (c) that of carrying arms openly; (d) that of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.

As you can see, it requires a distinctive sign be worn by militias to be recognized as such. As to your comment regarding rebel uprisings, that wold deal with internal only laws of the nation involved. Most of the terrorists we are dealing with in Iraq, Kosovo etc are not residents or citizens of the occupied nation. Most of hte members of AQ captured in Afghanistan were Saudi or UAE citizens. When an uprising is strictly internal ie; citizens of Liberia attacking the Liberian Government, the Geneva accords would not apply. But when they attack an occupying power, they become subject to the Geneva accords if the nations are both signatories of the treaty. As such, all combatants fighting in Iraq, or Kosovo are subject to the Geneva accords. Therefore, anyone wearing civies, and participating in combat related actions is a war criminal. Most of the detainees at Gitmo, and AbuGarib are not subject to the Protection of the Geneva accords because they were not wearing any type of uniform when they were caught, therefore not entitled to POW status.

For all of you debating if this was .50 Caliber, based on the damage, The amount of damage is going to change drastically based on the projectile. A Full Metal Jacket will produce this type of damage, whereas a partially jacketed projectile would do MUCH more damage.

I would just like to say to any person like Abhuud: If you live in America-please do the rest of the hard-working citizens a favor and shoot yourself. Notice i said hard working, i will admit, many people take for granted the benefits of our Democracy. I voted for the first time this past November and it was one of the greatest feelings in my life, and now to know that people are also doing this for the first time in their life makes me proud to be an American. I am not in the military or army or anything of the such. But I will say this: God(and yes there is only one) bless every man and woman serving this great country. I would like to say to them that there is at least one more back here at home standing behind them. I just wish that there were more people like Abhuud standing in view of these brave soldiers so these men and women can get more target practice for when they do find Bin-Laden.

USA will fight for Israel because we tell them to! They are our friends.

I am the daughter of a, now retired, Navy Chief. All my life I've been proud to be an American. This is a very gory picture. But war is not pretty. I'm VERY PROUD of all the American military men and women in all the military forces fighting the good fight. Keep it up. Stay safe. May God be with you.

Just goes to show what a well-trained Marine and his rifle can do in this world!! I know a good number of active/inactive Marines, and the duty they have given for this country allows us to live in a great country, such as this. Though I am a liberal Californian, I share some conservative views, especially when it comes to upholding our stance as a country you DONT FUCK WITH! Though I am glad that Saddam is finally out of power, I do feel for all the families that have lost someone in the war. I wish that our troops didnt have to continue their presence in Iraq.

I have read the above blogs, and I can only say that I feel we are trying to fight fair against a "dirty" enemy. Being that our troops are bound by the ROE, they CANNOT randomly blow things up and shoot people. Considering that we have followed ROE and the Islamic militants haven't, you would think that we would be losing the war... BUT WE AREN'T!! For our 1300+ troops killed, how many tens of thousands of militants have been silenced. I think that is a pretty good kill ratio considering we STAND AND FIGHT, not BOMB AND HIDE!

Too bad that a Hiroshima-like event is just not an option for our current times, cuz that would shut them up! Those places are already deserts anyways!
