Surprising you noted any open-mindedness on my part because I assure you none was intended. I am particulatly closed-minded regarding the South. I love my parents also. But I'm happy they are able to make their own life and perserve their independence with the bit they saved and Social Security. You may welcome your parents to spend their last days in your house but I don't think that's the wish of most people. Finally in relation to the military. I am proud that we have so gallant a military but I'm not proud of its leadership. It should not have been used to support a lot of lies. And now we have going on to two thousand dead and billions of dollars in cost because of it.

Well Denny I think this past election came down to Ohio which doesn't usually think of itself as Southern. I don't wish to write off all the South. I think Florida may be worth persuing. Florida by the way has been trending more Democratic in recent elections. It used to be solidly Republican. Virginia, Arkansas and West Virginia might be in play also. But have you Southerners noticed that the more the Repugs gain in the South the more they lose in the North East?

nsecchi - Bad news. As Paul pointed put Florida was more Republican in 2004 than in 2000. If Howie and Pelosi keep tacking left it will get even worse. It was gay marriage that lost Ohio. One of the reasons the Northeast is going more liberal is because the conservatives are moving South. Outside of New York, how many electoral votes are there in the Northeast? In 2010, they will lose electoral votes and the South will gain electoral votes. My state, Georgia, will probably pick up two. I know Texas will gain votes also. The demographics do not look good for the Yabbuts. They need to come up with some ideas. Alas, the well is dry. All they have is 60's liberalism.

Denny, the Democrats can count on the West Coast, the North East, including New Jersey and Pennsylvania and it gets Illinois. These regions are securely in Democratic hands. You righties think you you have it all but one elction can turn it completely around for you. You will never have majorities like the Democrats had under FDR, Truman, LBJ, JFK, who had veto proof majorities in the Senate and overwhelming numbers in the House. I was unware I was getting slaughtered in this little forum. Remember you are the one who still lives in the South. Of course if all the information I had of the history and politics of the US came from Limbaugh and others of that ilk I might have the opinions that you do. But if we compare the blue areas to the red areas of the country we find the blues have higher education rates, higher income levels, better health, greater access to culture and a more diverse population than reddies. Liberals in this country are doing just fine.

nsecchi - If all is going so well in the blue states, why are so many people moving to the red states? Georgia should pick up at least one, probably two more congressional seats after the 2010 census. The demographics favor the red states. Maybe people are leaving the high tax states like New York and Taxachesetts.

I was, however, born and raised in Dallas, Texas and damn proud of it. We "reddies" sure get around don't we? Folks like me who have relocated to blue states positively impact their demographics.
