While returning keys to my landlord (locked myself out for the second time in a 24-hour period) I was sitting at a stop light behind and to the right of an old pickup (maybe a 1980 Datsun) with a windows-faded-yellow-with-age rickety camper on the back. Inside were two men, probably around 60 who, from their gnarled hands and dress, I assume are machinists, welders, or maybe master electricians. You know the type: good ol' blue collar guys.

On the back of their truck was an assortment of stickers but two stuck out for their diametric statements. One was a Kerry/Edwards 2004 sticker, the other was one of these yellow "Support the Troop" ribbons. The problem is that when Kerry and Edwards--men who voted to send troops to Iraq--were explicitly given the chance to "support the troops" in the field, they "proudly" voted against it. So "supporting the troops" and voting for Kerry/Edwards are not actually in sync unless you believe restricting financial and material aid is a way of "supporting the troops". I doubt these seasoned hard-working Southerners would believe that.

But I don't blame these two ol' fellows for not knowing. This is Dan Rather's, Peter Jenning's, and Tom Brokaw's audience. People who are probably not Internet-savvy who go home, sit down to dinner after a long day of work, turn on the news, and believe they are receiving all the facts or least the news they "need" to know. If I were to tell them that Kerry and Edwards both said they "proudly" voted against the $82B, they would likely tell me they never heard such a thing. It's too bad.

(Note to Democrats with Kerry/Edwards 2004 stickers still on their cars: THEY LOST; get over it. You only look more insular and pathetic the longer you keep the stickers on your car--and I would say the same thing to Bush/Cheney 2004-sticker-havers if Kerry won.)

I have a quibble with the last one. The Bible says "the LOVE OF money is the root of all evil." Which makes a lot more sense.
Then again, the point of the bumper sticker is still good. Churches must love money in order to beg for it, eh?

I actually lived on Easy Street for about 6 years. People kept stealing the sign for some reason.

Denny, I loved the stickers, however the first one is from the 70's custom van era. It took me back to some very pleasent memories. Thanks much. Oh, by the bye, keep on stating the obvious to those "visitors" to your site who don't seem to get it....It is your site, your rules!!!
