Here we go again. Another plan to keep blacks dumb and on the Dimocrat plantation. What am I talking about? The San Bernadino school district planning on teaching blacks in the stupid made up language called Ebonics. I read about it here. I thought we fixed this idea a few years back when the Oakland school district decided to do this but backed off after the outrage and ridicule the stupid idea engendered. Or did they?
A school district in Southern California approved the "affirmation and recognition" of Ebonics into its curriculum as a way to help black students improve academic performance.
Yeah. Let's keep them from learning how to read and write standard American English. That's really gonna help them get a high paying job.

The San Bernardino Board of Education says a pilot of the policy, known as the Students Accumulating New Knowledge Optimizing Future Accomplishment Initiative, has been implemented at two city schools, according to the daily San Bernardino Sun.

Mary Texeira, a sociology professor at Cal State San Bernardino, believes the program will be beneficial to students."Ebonics is a different language, it's not slang as many believe,' Texeira told the Sun. "For many of these students Ebonics is their language, and it should be considered a foreign language. These students should be taught like other students who speak a foreign language."
Mary, you ignorant slut. This program, just like bilingual education, will harm those that it is attempting to help. What the fuck is wrong with you? What do you have against black people? One of my three simple steps to avoid poverty is education and part of that education is learning how to read, write, and speak standard American English. The sooner studednts learn that, and that includes all students in the American gummint schools, the sooner they will have a chance to succeed.
Texeira acknowledged there are African Americans who disagree with her.

"They say that [black students] are lazy and that they need to learn to talk," she said.
They are not necessarily lazy, unfortunately there is a culture in the black community that doing well in school, and that includes learning how to read, write, and speak standard American English is "acting white". That is what the education establishment, and black leaders should be addressing. Bill Cosby is right.
The program, which will be implemented gradually, begins this fall when teachers receive training on black culture and customs. The district curriculum will include information on the historical, cultural and social impact of blacks in society.
And how to make excuses for low achievement test scores of black students. Soon we'll be hearing that low test scores are because the tests are culturally biased. Wait a minute! We hear that now. We'll be hearing even more of it with Ebonics based education. What's next? Having an SAT test in Ebonics?
Len Cooper, coordinator of the pilot program at the two city schools, said Ebonics won't actually be incorporated into the program, because of its "stigma."
Yeah. The stigma of failure.
"We are affirming and recognizing Ebonics through supplemental reading books for students," he explained.Although the program is aimed at black students, other students can choose to participate, the Sun reported.
White kids who want to talk like rappers can sign up. There will probably be a long waiting list to get into that program.
Board member Danny Tillman told the paper he pushed for the policy because he hoped it would increase the number of black students going to college and participating in advanced courses.
Huh? Learning to talk like a rapper is gonna help someone get into college. What the fark is this guy smoking?
But Teresa Parra, board vice president, worries other minority groups, including Hispanics, will want their own programs.
Yeah, they want to lessen their chances of going to college and getting ahead. Why do the blacks get the chance to fuck up? The Hispanics want that too. Soon we'll have Hispanic Jesse Jacksons screaming about racism. I can hardly wait.
"I've always thought that we should provide students support based on their needs and not on their race," she said.

Ratibu Jacocks, a member of a coalition of black activists – the Westside Action Group – said they are working with the district to ensure the policy is implemented appropriately.

"This isn't a feel-good policy. This is the real thing," said Jacocks.

He welcomes the idea of other ethnic groups lobbying for their own program.

The idea of a common language is about as antiquated as Beta-taped porn. Not that I'm 'on the down low' about this.
Denny, I agree 100% with you on this one! It's all about self-esteem, don't you know, rather than ANYTHING that might require self-responsibility, communal-learning or a commitment to anything of a larger, common-good nature.
Heaven help that we might ask anything of each other that we might-could agree upon as a basis! That would ruin our sense of rugged-individualism and deprive us of our SELF-esteem!

I don't think either mowing lawns or picking up garbage is in the future for the unfortunate Eboniphonic. Who in his right mind is going to hire someone who can't even order a Big Mac to operate a $200,000.00 garbage truck, or go into a decent neighborhood to cut the grass and trim the edges? Perhaps they'll get by on dope sales until a rival gang pops a cap on 'em.

The purpose of 'Ebonics' goes hand-in-hand with the 'No child left behind' rhetoric. To make things easier for future generations who lack the intelligence the older generation has. Call this "The Dumbing Down of America". I know many, many black military troops who are outraged at what is being promoted as a language in American schools. I was on my second tour in Europe when this all came about (1997). The letters to our local paper were scathing. The outcome of this should be interesting. ;-)

I taught school in the San Bernardino school district for two years. It does not surprise me one bit that the administration would come up with such a moronic scheme to cover up their own ineptitude. The really odd thing about this story is that the district is well over 70% hispanic (Mexican)and many of them don't speak english at all. They have what they call ESL (English as a second language) classes for them. Surprisingly the goal of those classes is not to teach them to read, write and speak English! They are taught entirely in Spanish. It's possible to attend that district from kindergarden to high school graduation and not be forced to ever learn English. Ebonics would fit right in there.

More jobs in the "Language Arts" department and setting the stage to do away with school accountability (read union teachers)and standardized testing. After all, if the test is written in a language considered "foriegn" to an identifiable group of students then it is unfair and a special measurement has to be brought into play. One that will not measure acquired knowledge that can be used to assess teacher performance. This has the same goal as OBE (Outcome Based Education) did in the early nineties.

You conveniently forget one fact that overturns your opposition to ebonics ... and it's the fact that ebonics is spoken by the parent(s), relatives, friends, rappers and that's all they hear and can understand. Clear English confuses their limited cognitive abilities and makes them feel inferior and out of place.
Ebonics does not cater to complex sentences or complex ideas in any discipline so it is ideal for those who always sink to the lowest rung on the socio-economic ladder. When all you can construct is 3 word sentences plus grunts, that is all your intellect can handle.
If the local schoolboards and parents want ebonics for their children so be it .... let them have what they want because trying to shove American English down their throats will totally fail and create more hatred.
So have some empathy for those who can only communicate in ebonics .. the language of their society.

I feel empathy due to the fact that they are destined to failure because of some black pride thing that believes that Ebonics is a foreign language. It is not. They are perfectly capable of learning standard American English. Hispanics whose parents speak nothing but Spanish are perfectly capable of learning English if they are put into English immersion programs. It should be the same for blacks. I do not want to see anyone fail no matter what their race. That is why this Ebonics bullshit makes me want to puke.
