Massive huuricane slams Gulf Coast of the United States. The rest of the world expresses sympathy and promises to send aid to the United States.
They didn't? They won't?
Posted by denny at August 29, 2005 09:41 PMOh hell no they wouldn't. That make to much sense and be the right thing to do. Not in our lifetime, or our childrens lifetime.
Posted by: david shepard on August 29, 2005 10:13 PMGreat post, made me stop and think for a minute. Now I'm pissed. But then I thought, "Are we not the richest country in the world?"
Posted by: Teresa on August 29, 2005 10:19 PMTeresa - Yep! We are. And we are always the first to offer assistance to any country when there is a natural disaster. We don't need the assistance, but it would be nice for other countries to offer.
Posted by: Denny on August 29, 2005 10:40 PMPalistine and the other Muslime regions would love to send their troops to aid us as long as they don't have to check their vest at the border.
Posted by: Jeremy on August 29, 2005 10:47 PMI had to read that several times...Wow...never thought about it that way...and you are so right....
Think we would learn from this...wouldn't ya...
No offers from the coalition of the willing ?
why is that ?
Whine whine whine. Local / state government thinks it is too expensive to prepare against some heavy hurricanes and now you want the UN to ride to the rescue?
I'll happily support the US in Iraq, but please deal with your little floods yourselves.
As an aussie, I've got to say I hope our government does.
Not that I think you can't manage things yourselves, I just want to hear the shrieks of our lefties.
Posted by: Dave on August 30, 2005 04:16 AMDaran, the US answered a flood in the Netherlands once. We sent relief in the form of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions to push out a flood of Germans.
America will take care of our hurricane damages. I personally will be satisfied if the world will just honestly wish us well.
Posted by: TomR on August 30, 2005 02:16 PMI personally will be satisfied if the world will just honestly wish us well.
Had to put that word "honestly" in there, didn't ya? :P
Posted by: Dave on August 30, 2005 05:13 PMHonestly or not, the world won't say a word 'cause we don't give a shit. It's just a nice entertainment every day on the tv screen for us.
Just like u when u watch Fox news and the pain of Iraki...
Ben ouais bande de crétin!
Posted by: Nick Tamère on September 1, 2005 09:53 AMViva la OZ, Dave! Go get pissed for me, would ya!
Posted by: The Moose on September 1, 2005 11:13 PMActually several countries have offered assistance including that economic giant Honduras.
I'm going to go kick the snot out of the kiwi government till it fronts up for a little balancing the scales from back in 42 or we elect a new government in... 15 days.
Posted by: Murray on September 1, 2005 11:44 PMBy the way: 20 countries have propsed their help to USA.. include France that have already sent few doctors and firemen and rescuer (secouristes). It also propose to sent 40 more rescuers and material.
By the way 2: The organisation after Katrina look like the one of a 3rd rate countries so far... As I can see on american media...
Bravo!!
Well Denny, I missed Katrina completly . It was my luck of the draw that my crew change happened befire ecacuation decisions were made. I rode oout Ivan, Charlie,Bonnie, got off the rig just in time to cisit my Father in South Carolina and got hit by Hurricane Jeene. For the most part FEMA is doing at least OK with what truely is a disastor zone
But my minde keeps going back to wometime in the mid 80's Torrential rains, failed, dams substandard infrastructure threatened to wipe out the midwest farmer through flood and DROUGHT!! One contry volontered aid. Bangladesh had a bumper crop of rice that year and offered to ship as much aw we could take.
I think that Bill gates has been a good man donating millions upon milions to chariety, but a you moove down the line Sandra Bullock is quite wealthy, but not so rich that she dosen't feel the pinch a little when when she gives out $1,000,000 in direct aid to needy people Down the working stiff who makes too much to draw welfare himself will pull out that last $5 that he was going to treat his kids to a soda,in the hope that someone else's kid thousands of miles a way may get a meal. Its allways seeemed that those who can afford the least give the most.
I find it interesting that when attacked by terrorists America reacts with devastating force and efficiency. But when nature attacks they are slow and sluggish because they haven't got anyone to slap around. That is until anarchy reigns and they can send in the troops with orders to "shoot to kill" - Something to attack at last.
America has individuals who are richer than entire countries in africa and who flaunt it blatantly so don't expect africa to send America aid.
My thought and prayes are with those poor folk who have lost everything - God Bless
Hey Gordo, wasn't it weeks after 9/11 that the US attacked Afghanistan? Was that slow and sluggish?
It's possible to be critical of the reponse to Katrina without making some ridiculous political charge. So just tuck away your blinding hatred for the US, and focus on what YOU can do to help those poor people who need it.
And who the hell expects Africa to offer aid anyway?
