I have a friend that is a former East German. She now lives here and sells real estate, and she could tell your DUMB ASS some stories about her former East German life that would break your heart if you had one. Usually assholes like you have never lived or seen the communist or "socialist" life and how it sucks so bad it should be globally outlawed.

But I remember Mighty Soviet military soldiers abandoned by their government, begging for food because their government collapsed and could not afford to redeploy them back to Russia. Who helped them, Guess again. It was US military and their families that sheltered and fed them until their government could make arrangements. A lot of them did not go back. Screw Russia, they got a shot at life in the US. I'm also a speculator and proud of it. I served my country for 21 years and although I might not be a rich as Denny, that’s OK. I'm glad Denny, me and rest of us live in this country. In spite of its pin heads mostly liberal Dumbocrats, its still the best thing around. I've been around, I know.

What does it take to be successful in America? One of my nephews friends went to his dad on his 13th Birthday and asked for an increase in his allowance. Dad told him, Not only no, but no more allowance, its time you earn money. On graduation day in 1979, the kid was a multi millionaire. He started a small business with his last allowance money from the folks. By 15 he had over 40 employees, at 18 a hundred plus. He washes windows. At 15 OSHA busted him for being on a dangerous job and a minor. They wanted to speak to the Boss. They had egg on their face when the building manager IDed him as the boss.
I have hired several kids over the years to help with my rentals. The ones with drive and ambition show them selves by the end of the first week. Sad to say, they are rare. They excel at what they do, and move onward and upward. Its a mixed feeling when they leave, since you have to start all over training some one new, but have the joy of watching them climb the ladder to success.

I worked my ass off for them. At 16 yrs old in New York I was packing groceries in a supermarket, at 20 yrs. old I was building those supermarkets, at 44 I had built over 50 centers and moved to Colorado ,,,,,, to get away from idiots like you. That was 9 years ago. Guess what? I still go to work every day. I work with my hands at work, I work with my hands on the Ranch when I come home, I work 7 days a week. I do it cause I enjoy it. You hit the nail right on the head Denny when you said that the poor could be educated, ie: Pell grant. There were a few that I went to college with that spent their Pell's on new cars. Made me sick. As I scrammbled for funds to pay for my own books.

The problem is most of today's youth were born after the fall of the USSR. They have no first hand knowledge of the evils of socialism. They believe their professors because to them, the Cold War is ancient history, as far in the past to them as WWII was to those of us born in the 50s and 60s.

hoosierboy- You are right, as one of todays students i can say that for the most part students today are ignorant to how great they have it here in the United States of America because they have no idea how bad it can be. But there are a select few of us who do know because we actually pay attention in school and listen to the stories of struggle that happened and happen under communist rule. It is scary to me to see this happening because more often than not it is the most ignorant students who have dreams to be the next president of the u.s. God help us... scratch that... god help them. I pray that there are more kids out there that actually have a brain that want to run this country some day, if not, we are in for some big problems.

Dan S. - I agree to an extent. I have been very disappointed that Republicans have turned into Dimocrats. The only upside is that deficit spending as a percentage of GDP is not as high as it was in the 80's, and that is the important thing. What is gonna kill us, just like it is killing France and Germany, is our runaway entitlement programs. Medicare is gonna hit us before Social Security does and what is the solution? A prescription drug entitlement. As I have said many times, the Federal Gummint is spending on stuff that is not in the Constitution. If James Madison were alive today he would be shocked. If Thomas Jefferson were alive, he would be calling for a war of independence from the Federal Gummint. We are not on the downhill slope yet, but we are at the crest. As a Frenchman (Yes Prosper, I'm quoting a Frenchman), Alexis de Tocqueville once said about America, and I paraphrase since I do not have the exact quote, once the people of this country find out they can vote themselves money out of the public trust, this system will fail. And that is what our politicians are merrily doing, pandering and showering money on special interest groups. Our current president has not vetoed one spending bill.

Alexis de Tocqueville simply looked back in history to the various democricies and why they failed. No great secret in what he did, but utter stupidity on the part of all those who do not look to history before repeating its mistakes.
I wold love to see our welfare system reformed. Limit the total number of years a person can be on it to arround five years, set a minimum age before you can be on it, possibly 25, and require that anyone on it be attending some type of vocational training or job skills course.

I wonder if politics would work better if there was a draft for political office. Fifty people drafted for each Fed seat, then a public election for one of those 50. No professional pols. But, then the carrer staffers would run things, kinda like some of em do now. And, out of 50 drafted, how many would be smarter than "outcome based education". Damn, Americas' future depends on honesty, reality, self sacrifice, self discipline, humility in our leadership. Where do we find that?? I don't know.

Investing - too many people don't have the patience or self discipline to invest, easier to load up on scratch offs and lotto tickets. Every kid should be taught before high school about the stock market and compounding savings.

Zimbabwe - wow, notice all the tourist flights going there, to their many fine resorts! Mugabe is Ray Nagin times 100. Famine actually began there about 3 years ago as all white farms were turned over to Black "war veterans" (read, looters and terrorists). Even with UN support, Zimbabwe suffers famine and of course AIDS. Mugabe leaves frequently to visit his vacation resorts on the European Mediterranean.

Anyone with a basic education and lots of get up and go can become anything they want in todays United States. The biggest problem is the 'over educated' left wingers. They have a piece of paper that says they graduated from snob college. It's worth exactly what a sheet of paper is worth. Most of them are too sorry to earn a living, they think someone else owes them a living. That puts them on even par with the career welfare riders, not the average American. The welfare system has enslaved more black people than any regime in history. Most of them are too stupid to know this and keep standing around with their hands out. Just watch the news and they'll prove they are worthless to the human race.
