Project Valour-IT

HAPPY VETERANS DAY

On my dive trip over the weekend, one of the students was griping about how poorly we treat our military. I agree. That's just one of the reasons I support Project Valour-IT.

Project Valour-IT, in memory of SFC William V. Ziegenfuss, provides voice-controlled software and laptop computers to wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines recovering from hand and arm injuries or amputations at major military medical centers. Operating laptops by speaking into a microphone, our wounded heroes are able to send and receive messages from friends and loved ones, surf the ‘Net, and communicate with buddies still in the field without having to press a key or move a mouse. The experience of CPT Charles “Chuck” Ziegenfuss, a partner in the project who suffered hand wounds while serving in Iraq, illustrates how important this voice-controlled software can be to a wounded servicemember’s recovery.

Of course, I'm on the Navy team, not only because I'm ex-Navy, but also because I want to be on the same team as the beauteous Bou.

Support our military. Do it! Now!

We made it! Thanks to all, but that doesn't mean you hafta stop giving. Keep it up!

To all the jarheads out there: Happy Birthday Marines thanks for serving your country!

Any idea where the USMC Project Valor-IT is?

Damn you Navy guys are overpaid.

Us groundpounders are just plain hard done by coming and going.

Support our military? Who doesn't? Not many people I know of. But it IS possible to support our GI's and not the U.N. opposed war.

Posted by: Greg M. on November 8, 2005 02:06 AM

That'd be the same UN that is opposed to stopping the genocide in Darfur, right, Greg?

Greg
There are many ways to support the troops. Along with my kids we help out with www.packagesfromhome.orgWe collect donated items and box and ship to the troops. We have over 5000 names on the list and each service person will recieve thier own package IE food hygene or a recreation box. In over a year and a half we have shipped over 11000 packages. This group is one of only 29 listed on the department of defense web site. I also have a friend I work with that was recalled in May after 12 years out of the service. Ever day I send him a email with some photos I swip off the Hard Rock Hotel web cams(cams at the pool) Its little things like this that keep some of the guys going.

Setting Greg's little fit aside and getting back on topic:
"Go Army!"

Posted by: Bob on November 8, 2005 09:59 AM

.. Mr. Cooper, you can throw some cash at the Corps from my site or Holly Aho's once it is back up...

Posted by: Eric on November 8, 2005 10:02 AM

Can I just say thanks? My kid is on a submarine, and stationed on the other side of our planet.

I have to say that I know first hand how much the gifts of money and the time spent are very well appreciated, by them and thier families.

Thank You!

Denny-
Thanks for the information. I have been wanting to send some support but didn't really know how/what to send. It's much appreciated.

Happy 230th Birthday to the United States Marine Corpse (because by this time today the real ones are all dead drunk!)
And thank to all you who served.

Posted by: Jeremy on November 10, 2005 10:10 AM

Does anyone know of a way I can send ammunition to help our troops in this U.N. sanctioned war?

Happy Veterans day and a HUGE thank you to those who served in the past, present and those who will do so in the future. Whether you served in war or peace time, thank you. I truly treasure my freedoms.

Not all us Jarheads got drunk. This Viet Nam Marine is home in Fort Worth with the flu, but Denny, thanks for remembering us.

BTW, You cannot "support the troops" and oppose their mission. George Bush is the CIC, so in effect, he too is a member of our armed forces. I get sick hearing that "I support the troops, but not the war crap." It's saying to the troops, your mission, your deaths, your difficulties are for nothing.

Red Fridays
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday.
The reason?
Americans who support our troops used to be called the "silent majority".
We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, Country and Home in record breaking numbers.
We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing.
We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions.
Many Americans, like you, me , and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America that supports our troops.
Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that..
Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something red.
By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.
If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family.
It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.
The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make things better for you?" is...We need your support and your prayers.
Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example; and wear something red every Friday.
I sent this out to everyone on my email list.
Will you?

We Live InThe Land Of The Free,
Only Because Of The Brave.
Their Blood Runs Red-Wear Red!
Most Of All -
God Bless America!!!
And FYI I agree with Bill, you cannot support the troops and oppose the mission!

Someone E-mailed me back a question, and I quote: Would it be all right if the red I wear is the blood from the split lips of some pissant America Hating Liberal?

Posted by: Jeremy on November 11, 2005 08:17 PM

YOU GUYS FUCKING ROCK!

All the military Moms that I know wear red white and blue on fridays. I have red high tops and red hair...

Posted by: lisakay on November 12, 2005 07:16 AM

Here is another you can do. You are at a restaruant and you see a family with a young Marine in Dress Blues trousers. He has no rank on his sleeve and no red blood strip on his trousers and no medals. He is probably fresh home from boot camp after earning his Eagle, Globe and Anchor.

We older Marines sneak up to the cashier or get the waiter to bring us his check and we SECRETLY pay his dinner tab. If we say anything, we just write SEMPER FI on the bill for the new Marine.

That lets the family enjoy his company without interruption because that time is all about their proud son/daughter. It also means that once he/she gets older that they do the same thing, themselves.

Denny rocks for having such a good BLOG.

Posted by: Bill on November 12, 2005 10:22 AM

Some of the Marines I know do that regardless of what branch the young Service Member is in.
I've also seen some of them slip a $20 to a store clerk when there is a uniformed soldier behind them in the line.
That is part of my reason for voicing disgust about the movie "Jarhead". It was no tribute to the Scout Snipers, the Marines, or the military in general.

Eric- Thanks for the info. I donated to the Navy site. I was in the USN for 4 yrs, but it is the Marines and Army that are taking 99% of the casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is why I inquired about a Marine site, but as we all know (except those that were/are Marines, they think it's the other way around) the USMC is part of the Navy. Semper Fi...And Happy B-Day USMC!!! I'll tell y'all another funny military story. When I was in basic training in San Diego to begin my Navy career, the MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot, where the jarheads go to basic training, is next door to our base) was having there mess hall remodeled, so it was closed and the jarheads were using one of our Navy mess halls (We had 2 on the base). Anyway, I was marching alone to a dentist appointment, and passed a company of jarheads on their way to our mess hall. I saluted the Marine DI (drill instructor) as I passed, and he said "sailor", I stopped, turned around, and said "yes sir?". He halted his Marines, and asked them, pointing at me, "What is that?". In unison all the Marines shouted "A squid, sir!". The DI then said "carry on sailor".

We do that stuff too. We used to live in Duluth, we'd see service families out at dinner. Pay their tabs. When our son graduated from boot camp, it was in Miliwaukee. We stopped at every road side joint back to Chicago and paid for a lot of cheap crummy dinners, shook hands, said thank yous. It was great, my son complained that we always have to feed everyone. His Retired SeaBee Dad said, The Marine's storm the hill, the Army bombs the hill, and Our Navy sits back and rules the world....
Navy guys aren't over paid, they are just smarter.

No offense, I love my Army, Marine, Air Force and Coast Guard pals. I really do. I secretly love Pierce too, but he ain't nebber getting in with those green colored bowed legs.
