Irony

Border Patrol uniforms are made in Mexico

The labels inside the U.S. Border Patrol uniforms have been making many federal agents feel uneasy. It's not the fit or feel of the olive-green shirts and pants, but what their labels read: "Made in Mexico."

Now isn't that special?

"It's embarrassing to be protecting the U.S.-Mexico border and be wearing a uniform made in Mexico," says T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a 6,500-member union.

No shit! But then you guys aren't doing too well protecting the border anyway so it shouldn't feel that bad.

"If we're manufacturing uniforms in Mexico, what's to stop someone from walking across the border in a Border Patrol uniform?" asked Rep. John Carter, a Republican from Round Rock. "How do you know who are our guys and who are their guys?"

Simple. Their guys will be the ones who are actually moving. Our guys are the ones sitting around doing nothing.

Kinda reminds me of those American flags you find at the Wal-Mart in July...that are made in China.

I find this quite amusing and curiously funny.... kinda like watching Snoopy and Woodstock eat TURKEY at the end of the "Happy Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown!" special...

hehe

Lastnight, Jay Leno mentioned the uniforms on the
TONIGHT SHOW.

Unfortunately, our government won't allow the border agents to do their job. They fear political fallout if they take a strong stand against illegal immigration from Mexico.

Do you believe Bush's speech yesterday was rhetoric to pump up his popularity with the GOP conservative base....or does he mean it?
I would like to believe he means what he said!

It was just rhetoric. Our borders will remain unprotected. It doesn't matter who is president.

I don't think we can blame the officers who patrol the border. Rather I think the bureaucrats in D.C. are more to blame. I took time this week to write my legislators and press them to introduce a VIABLE, EFFECTIVE bill to curb both legal and illegal immigration. We have to let our representatives know that this is an important issue. Otherwise, we're fooked.

George Bush means what he says -- but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the dimocrats and rinos to roll and let Bush beat them on the issue of immigration.

The immigration laws we have today were enacted under Jimmah (of course, I'm referring to the former governor of your state, Denny). Jimmah's intent was to appeal to what were then two dimocrat constituencies: Hispanics and labor unions. Labor was offered lower immigration quotas and Hispanics were offered amnesty. Of course the lower immigration quotas were a sham since the feds had no intention of enforcing the immigration laws.

What President Bush (the former governor of my state) has proposed (and has been proposing for four years) is essentially a return to the laws we had in the 60's and early 70's. In those bygone days I worked for my dad's construction company in El Paso, TX along side many a legal alien -- Dad wouldn't hire illegals.

But if he were alive today and trying to keep his business going, as an employer he'd be a fool to obey a law that every other company violates with impunity. As for the immigrant Mexican laborers themselves, under current law they've learned better than to even consider trying to enter the U.S. legally anymore. It's so much easier to penetrate the border than to penetrate the U.S. Immigration Service's bureaucracy.

Bob- the last time a President offered us increased border security in return for an amnesty (and that's exactly what Bush is talking about, don't let him fool you)... we got the amnesty. Don't you bet that this time will get any different.
As far as the "guest worker" program goes, have you ever wondered why those have been declared disasters everywhere thay've been tried? Go look at Germany's.
President Bush is deeply, deeply unserious about border security. He is also past-the-moon out of touch with how the majority of America, much less the Republican base, feels about the issue. If the Congressional Reps support his asinine scheme, we'll have a Democratic House AND Senate by '08- and they'll deserve it.
