Mayor Asshole better get used to the "white chocolate" part of NO...since most of the welfare collecting scum who made up most of NO, will not be returning...

Well....I think i might have something to say about your comment. I am a social worker and help those so called "welfare collecting scum" and a lot of them are very nice people that have fallen on very had times and need some TEMPORARY assistance. To call them scum is Abhorrent to me. If you were in the same position you would gladly accept help from the state or feds.

By all means i do not condone staying on welfare for years and those who do suck on the teet of the system for long periods of time should be mandatory taken off and put to work.

But PLEASE don't call tem SCUM. You only lower yourself to a level lower than pond scum.

Rachel - Unfortunately, Rob is right. Multigenerational welfare recipients are scum. I have no problem providing temporary assistance. I do have problems supporting a permanent lifestyle of gummint dependency.

Denny if you look at what i wrote in my post at the bottom you will see i do NOT condone supporting welfare recipients long term either.

What i was objecting to is calling them Scum.

"To put others down ONLY belittles oneself"

I couldn't agree more Denny, if you have give aways there will always be takers. I guess it's still OK for fourth generation welfare to be dispensed since some people are genetically disposed to being dependent all their lives. Welfare reform has removed many directly from the welfare rolls only to reassign them to SSI away from the stigma of welfare. This is good, really good, for the recipient as well as the administrators since it gives them both legitimacy. I think of it as taking change from one pocket and moving it to another so it looks like I'm spending it differently. Scum is scum, whether or not it floats on the front or the rear pond and humility should be part of taking from somone else's hard won livelyhood. And don't give me any shit about being there, I have been, down and out more than once and it never stopped me from getting out and finding work, educating myself and moving up the ladder of success. Offer them 6 months help and the opportunity to learn a skill then boot their asses off for life. It's called personal responsibility, self respect and self reliance folks.

The trouble with welfare, once you get on it, it is very hard to get off. Generations have been on it and take advantage of us. Young women have many babies, just to stay on welfare, then they get 16 and start having more, we need to cut them off one of these days. Plus, if there was more welfare workers checking on this shit, we would have have to pay out so much money. Most of them women have two or three boyfriends coming by and giving them money and some loving, making more babies. And you think thses welfare women are going to raise these kids well? Shit no, most of them end up in jail. Don.t get me started, I worked with many a good black person and they all told me the same story, Cat

Rachel - Would you prefer parasites? Y'know why I call them scum? The looting. Breaking into stores and stealing plasma TV's. Scum! The crime rate has gone up in Houston. Y'know why? Nawlins scum! I'm sorry if it offends you. What offends me is that Lyndon Johnson's Great Fucking Society created multigenerational welfare recipients and turned them into scum.

Rachel, I have a serious question for you. Can you give me one specific example as to why a hurricane Katrina refuge should still be sucking off the teat of Uncle Sam-well really ME? I mean you say people fall on hard times and ocassionally need a hand getting up, and I'm not going to be my normal hard ass self and say that's wrong. We as a country are known for our generosity and kindness. But, since this thread was directed at the Katrina folks, I want to know exactly what type of hard times you can use as an example would justify someone still having their hands in my pocket. If someone has such a piss poor planned lifestyle that several months after a natural disaster as this they have no skills, family, friends, or I dare say, motivation to make their lot better, then they are well SCUM. So on behalf of all you altruistic people out there, please tell me why we should still be towing the line for these people this long after the crisis occured. I look forward to an example.
