Holy Crap! Look what's on The History Channel 8:00 PM Friday night. We get to find out about Bou. Will they tell us who Mo and TN are?
Posted by denny at March 9, 2006 03:59 PMHmm, History's synopsis looks a little vague. Is that part of the Warrior Women series with Lucy Lawless? If so, it's worth watching, no doubt about it.
Personally, I'm looking forward to the new season of Worst Jobs in History with Tony (Baldrick) Robinson. Poor little guy, the things he's been through....
Posted by: Duncan on March 9, 2006 05:30 PMOMG! I'm going to link to this... fantastic.
Posted by: vw bug on March 9, 2006 09:18 PMI have my reminder stuck up in a prominent place so a SM won't make me miss it!!!!
Posted by: Indigo on March 9, 2006 10:00 PMI will be watching! Wow. Let's hope they don't say she was some sociopath. That'll suck.
Posted by: Bou on March 9, 2006 10:07 PMDuncan - Speaking of the Blackadder series (Baldrick) did you know that House is played by the guy who played Prince George in Blackadder the Third? Got that tidbit from Jim over at Parkway Rest Stop.
Posted by: Denny on March 9, 2006 10:25 PMRaving wack job who went ape on pretty much everyone till they slapped her down.
Consequently a national icon.
Never had to deal with mass media of course.
She was a sociopath Bou. She killed everyone who was within reach.
Posted by: Murray on March 10, 2006 12:28 AMFor good reason, from what I understand, Murray. I feel most certain I would have done the same... then again, perhaps I am a sociopath.
Posted by: Bou on March 10, 2006 09:00 PMBou, Thanks for the history lesson about Warrior Queen Boudica. I watched on Friday night. I was not aware of the history of Queen Boudica and the Celtic uprising against the Romans in 60 AD. It seemed that her struggle was a righteous one for the freedom of all the British people. However, even the best intentions not matched up with the superior military technology will end in disastrous consequences. Boudica's military strategy been more effective at countering the Roman defenses or had they attacked before the Romans were able to form up, the outcome might have been different.
The Roman forces used brilliant long distance defense i.e. the Javelins and equally excellent close quarter defenses heavy shields and short swords. Also, the rotation of "point man" to the rear giving him a rest was perfect. Even the zigzag pattern of the Roman front lines were very affective at isolating and weakening the front lines of the Celtic charge.
Roman conquest albeit brutal and oppressive was something to grudgingly admire.
I like to come away from a history lesson with something that can be applied today. The lesson I come away with is that no matter how noble your cause, in order to win you most also have to technological edge on any battle field or battle space.
Scaryguy- I think you are right in your assessment. I've read much on what others think of the outcome. Some think she was riding too high and was careless at the end. I think that the end was inevitable. She did not have the warring experience the Romans had and other than the passion of she and her people, which can take one far, she had no edge. I feel certain I would have done what she did though, even to the bitter end of taking my own life before letting myself be humiliated, tortured, and killed by the Romans.
