On September 12, 2001 I wrote a letter to the editor in which I said that only the passengers on Flight 93 performed heroic acts, everybody else just did what was expected of them. Fire fighters are hired and train to run into fires, police are hired and trained to also assist the firemen. The passengers and airline crews had been told to cooperate with hijackers. The passengers on Flight 93 fought back. Whether the plane was blown up from inside by the terrorists or was shot down [I don't think it was intercepted, not enough time to get airborne and get there]is not the issue, we have the "let's roll" cellphone tape.
I said at that time that these hijacking could not have happened had all passengers been required to be armed [Good morning Mr. Atta, here is your 38, everybody else is armed too, sit in your seat and shoot any person who tries to hijack the airplane].
I also suggested that Congress should create a medal just for the Passengers of Flight 93.

If it were mine to control, I would have every major network news start off at the top and bottom of the hours with those horrific images of the towers. As you said, people have forgotten. They have forgotten what has happened to us, and that war was declared on us. This "forgetfullness", whether intentional or not, is the sole reason so many in this country don't understand or comprehend what we are doing over in the "uncivilized" portion of the world right now. I never paid much attention till in the 90's when the shit started to really hit the fan with the barracks in Saudi and then the embassies and of course the Cole. Only reason I'm offended by United Flight 93 b/c it's pure hypothesis about what happened up there. Nobody in the American public knows what happened on Flight 93, and there has been no evidence presented that the cockpit was ever breached. Besides, I think logically that if the passengers got into the cockpit and took control, they could have managed NOT to crash the plane.

So what makes me upset is the Flag waving mythologizing of a very sensitive subject. Everyone WANTS these people to be heroes, to have stormed the cockpit and in the fracas the plane crashed, but we just don't know for sure what happened... or the government just isn't telling us.

The fact is, we don't know what happened up there, and until we do, people shouldn't be making movies or books about it, since it essentially is a work of fiction.

Now, I don't have a problem with them labeling it as a work of fiction, but with the subject matter, people will have a hard time separating "fiction" from reality. Especially when the movie offers to "tell the story of Flight 93"

I saw the preview for United 93 last night, and I must say it brought back some pretty intense feelings. I couldn't talk, tears were in my eyes, and I was shaking. I am active AF (21 years), 16 in the fire department, and have many friends deployed around the globe, taking the fight back to the enemy. This is a movie that needed to be made, to keep this memory fresh. We are at war! We were attacked on our very shores!

Remeber the Maine, Remember Pearl Harbor, Remember the Alamo, Remember 9/11!
