Several years ago I had a chance to talk to a Staff Sergeant that was a Captain who got riffed because his job went away. Rifting is a higher ranking person; usually an officer has a number of years into the career. It their job position is cut, they may elect to continue as an enlisted person in order to complete their career and retire at officer plus pay. It sucks it happens to you but at the end of the rainbow is your retired officer pay. We got into a discussion about the WAPS test and what he though of it. He said it was the toughest test he ever took and he held a Master's degree in Computer Science.
I took that test every year to finally make E-7 Master Sergeant in the computer electronic and cryptographic systems maintenance field. I have a BS in Electronic Management and I'm about to finish a MS in Information Security. Both of these degrees were easy compared to making my next stripe. But according to John, I'm a moron. Fuck him, and his apology.
