AOTW 12-29-2006

The last Asshole of the Week Award for 2006 goes to some booger eatin' moh-ron, who calls himself, Union1Confederacy0 (Ha ha. Really funny dude.) who posted the following comment on a closed post (I still get to see those comments and decide whether to approve them).

Let's see...a bunch of rednecks from Georgia sez no global warming. The national rocket scientist, the guy that runs NASA or something sez global warming is a serious issue that needs attention. Who ya gonna believe?

Dude. You said it yourself, "The national rocket scientist". He is not a climatologist. Y'see, we rednecks down here in Georgia learned sumpin' in school called the scientific method. That's where you take data and examine it. We have only been recording temperatures for the last 200 years. Our climate is cyclical. Back in the 11th Century, Greenland could support crops and livestock. Then the Little Ice Age hit. The people left. Was it warmer in the 11th Century than it is now? We don't know. You global warming alarmists are actually extrapolating 50 years of data to advocate your Chicken Little beliefs. Remember, according to Algore, we only have ten years left and then it will be too late. What's he gonna say in ten years?

Realize that most of the global warming advocates are either not climatologists or are recipients of grants that they would lose if they didn't advocate global warming theories.

To all of you Kyoto advocates, I hope you realize that in 2009, according to the IEA, China will become the largest producer of CO2.

Last month, the International Energy Agency announced that China would probably surpass the United States as the world's largest contributor of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide by 2009, more than a full decade earlier than anticipated.

Yanno, the China that is exempt from Kyoto. Even this Georgia "redneck" realizes that crippling our economy by signing on to Kyoto, while giving China a pass is not gonna solve anything.

Anyway, manmade global warming is bullshit as is your comment. Georgia redneck 1, AOTW 0.

Here's your prize.

Don't forget that back in 1974 those same folks were claiming we had only a few years left to pump oil out of the ground before it was all going to be gone. I always like to ask people if they think that humans caused the ice ages, or if humans were responsible for rewarming the planet after the ice ages. Sheesh.

It's time to call these people by the right name - Climate Cycle Deniers!

Posted by: Murray on December 30, 2006 12:51 AM

Denny- You need to have an end of the year "Asshole Of The Year" award/contest where we can vote for the biggest asshole of the year from all the assholes of the week...

"The national rocket scientist, the guy that runs NASA or something"

Wow. This guy has really done his homework, hasn't he? I didn't even know we had a "national rocket scientist". Is that a federally appointed position? Is he the secretary of something?

Denny, is this troll still hanging around? I wouldn't mind talking to him.

It might be fun.

I remember reading an article a few months ago that said something like "it was this countries warmest November in the last 40 years". And someone else posted, well what happened 40 years ago. There was certainly less man made "stuff" going on then. Yesterday I read a "scare" article where a giant chunk of ice came off of some Canadian ice shelf. Supposedly huge. Happened in September I believe, but they just found out about it recently. Anyway, it carried all the scare tactics necessary to freak "chicken littles" out, but commented it was the most dramatic change in an ice mass in the last 60 years. Well, what happened 60 years ago?

It's time for we conservatives to get serious about climate change. Two things, it's occurring, and we can't change it's outcome.

Now, that said, the Socialists have settled on Global Warming as their primary means of implementing world Socialism by global wealth re-distribution.

It's time to call them out on it. We need to tell them that they need to first prove that anything man does to the atmosphere in any fashion actually makes a difference on climate or it's cycles.

The answer, of course, is no, not to any significant percentage which would be necessary to reverse any warming cycle IF we are in one, which is still debatable. IF we are in a warming cycle, the dynamics of the atmosphere are so massive that the puny amounts of CO2 that world industry pumps into it can have only a negligible effect on a cycle which is in progress. When you consider that even under the most economy-savaging restrictions of a Kyoto 2 agreement, we would only be restricting a fraction of the world's CO2 output anyway, the entire scheme becomes even more laughable.

We are probably in a warming cycle, the best scientific evidence points to it. That cycle has been going for over 14,000 years, and it has had several notable cooling periods within it. The dynamics and reasons for those cooling periods can only be guessed at by theory which can't be proven. Also, the extent of the warming cycle or it's ultimate upper end can't be predicted.

What CAN be predicted is that all the Commie Dog Democrats will run on "Global Warming" in 08, and since there won't be any "Blue Dog" Democrats in the finals, we'd better get ready for it.

The conservatives need to put together a credible scientific panel who will challenge idiots like Gore and Edwards on their science, and make them prove up or shut up.

Newsweek magazine April 28, 1975 proclaims a coming Ice Age. Hat tip to Rush for the PDF file here

So Assholio is trying to tell us we've gone from conditions of Global Cooling to Global Warming in thirty years and we're all gonna die?!? Gee, from 1910 to 1940 it was Global Warming. So make up your fucking mind. Are we gonna freeze or roast? Personally, I vote for "none of the above."

Thanks Mr Gizzip
My fellow employees are now arguing global warming and I am laughing my ass off.

Check this out at Tim Blair:

Go to the linked site and read it all, and marvel at the freakin' idiocy of some actual climatologists. And their disregard for honesty.

It's the sun, stupid. Our climate is a solar driven machine. The output of the sun varies in fairly predictable cycles and when it does we feel it. Humans have only been here for about 4 milloin years out of almost 4 billion. We have been burning fossil fuels at significant rates for just over 150 years. With the decline of open burning of coal the air is cleaner than it was at the beginning of the last century. In 1900 Europe was gray. Once they stopped burning coal and cleaned it up it is white. Or at least lighter. If you believe the fear mongers it should have been warmer. If you want a good read on "Global warming" try Michael Crichton's State of Fear. A novel to be sure, but full of science with citations. One of his assertions is that most of these "environmental" outfits are just law firms with a fund raising unit. They scare people into giving them money and sue others to get more. As he says, " repetition does not make it true".

Roger - I have pushed State of Fear on this site on many occasions. I really love what happens to the liberal actor near the end of the book.

A few comments / corrections:

"We have only been recording temperatures for the last 200 years."

We have only been ACCURATLY been recording temperatures for 26+ years beginning in 1979 when the satellites first began measuring it. They will tell you that it goes back further (1895 is a standard starting point) but ask yourself how they took accurate temperatures in the middle of the Indian ocean in 1902. Global temperatures include everywhere.

The Indian Ocean (68,556,000 sq km) is about 82,697 times the size of New York City (830 sq km) and as such the temperature measurements should be considered vastly more important. Do you really trust some gut named "Ishmael" who is told to go outside at exactly noon on a sailing ship or coal burning tramp steamer and accurately measure the temperature to within a tenth of a degree and then write it down so that some scientist in a city called London that you've never met and can never check your figures will know what the temperature was? That was the surface record prior to 1979.

Since 1979 temperatures have gone up. 2005 was the second hottest of the 26 years. Through November, 2006 shapes up to be the 4th hottest of 27 years (or ever depending on your point of view). The hottest year (by far) was 1998. Since 1998 temperatures may have settled down a bit. Including 2006 the last 8 years have been .15 degrees C. warmer then the last 27 years and less then a third of the 1998 peak of .535 degrees C.

The surface temperature record tells a different story but those temperatures still rely on Ishmael's great, great grandchildren working in villages where toilet paper is the preferred hard currency.

I read a few weeks ago that Moscow has already had it's hottest winter temperature EVER on December 15, 2006 breaking the previous record set on February 17, 1989 and helping to prove Global Warming. I always thought that winter started on (or about) December 21st. Apparently I was wrong.

Global warming/climate change...

So, now we only have accurate temperature records for the last 26+ years & are supposed to base projection`s & conclusions for only those "accurate " record`s. Aside from Ismaiel`s suspect record`s & the lack of enough toilet paper to go around, there is a repository of sufficent documentation to ascertain whether or not Global warming is in process as well as to assess climate change as it compares to thousands of years in the past.It is commonly known as the Greenland icesheet & sampling has been on-going there for many years.

What is known is we are in a warming mild cycle & have been for many years with a few brief cold spells. what also can be stated with certainty is that our climate has flip-flopped many times in the past without any assistance by man & can be expected to do so in the future with or without our help.Temperature, carbon dioxide, methane & all the other indicators have varied to far higher & lower values without any plausible belief for influence by man..... this is the fact the leftwing environmental wackoloons want you to ignore.

I am sure that the future will provide us with climate changes to extremes both beneficial & dangerous to mankind. This is called reality & has nothing to do with the delusion we hold ultimate control over climate change or warming. What is really important is for all of mankind to recognize change as inevitable due to geological & solar infuences far beyond our control or comprehension. With regard to this, it is in our interest as to how best we can first accept change & how to adapt.

That is my take for Global warming/Climate change.........Now as for "Asshole Of The Year", I again nominate the American Electorate for ignorance, lack of patriotism & being coward`s.

Hey Sean:

I trust an old fucker at sea in the IO in 1900 more than I trust Al Gore and his bullshit.

vetfromhell........

I second your observation......just think that were Nov 2006 to have been Nov 2004.....that asswipe would have become President, I no longer have any trust for the American Electorate either.

What's to "blame" for global warming? I'm guessing the sun.

The Global Warming Religious crowd forgets the lessons of The Population Bomb.
