Economic Suicide

Isn't it amazing how socialists liberals never learn and keep on making the same mistakes over and over again? It's not like they don't have examples to learn from. Compare and contrast. East Germany versus West Germany. North Korea versus South Korea.

So what's the latest lunacy? It's California and its clean power rule. Now you think that the idiots liberals in California would have learned from their last foray into power regulation. Remember that? That's when they decided to deregulate wholesale prices while continuing to regulate retail prices. Even anyone who had slept through half of Econ 101 could have predicted the disaster that would occur.

So let's see. California is only gonna buy power from plants that meet California's clean air regulations. So automatically that is gonna cut the supply side of the equation. You know which equation I'm talking about don'tcha? It's that supply and demand thing that communists liberals are always trying to circumvent.

California is gonna limit the supply of electicity by cutting the producers they can buy power from. They're also probably not gonna let the price they pay float. Hello shortages.

Gun. Bullet. Head.

It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people.

Sigh... one more reason for me to move the heck outta Cali as soon as I can. I've lived here in the same county my whole life.
I live in the central valley region and we have 'save the air' days during the summer months when the pollution gets bad, yanno, the kind of days when you take a knife, cut a chunk of air out and chew on it. A goodly amount of the crud in our air is blown in from the Bay Area and gets trapped here in the bowl. Of course the liberal Bay Area doesn't have to have the same 'save the air' days as they don't have the pollution problem we do, because their stuff gets blown here!

Michelle - Would it surprise you to learn that not only whites are leaving California but so are blacks and Mexicans? The only group growing in population is Asian.

Posted by: Denny on January 3, 2007 03:54 PM

If Michelle is from the valley, she's really aware of the growing Asian population. I have family in Fresno, so I've seen it. My brother also was presented with an $852 power bill last summer. It will have to go up now, what with California's latest blunder. Is Grey Davis back?

(I think you've got an open tag after "socialists" - the rest of the page is stricken in some browsers)..

Oh, yeah.
You've got the .. ah, forgot how to get brackets without getting it interepreted...

The strike tag is closed with a link tag...

Alan -

Grey Davis never left, he just changed into an Arnie suit. Seriously - when Arnie took over as the Gov, he didn't come with his own flunkies, he mostly kept the same group that Davis had. He has similar views / policies and with the same group implementing them, not much changed.

Around the halls of Sacto, Arnie has been labeled "Grey Davis Light". Same taste, less filling.

Makes me glad I left California.

Posted by: Alan on January 3, 2007 04:56 PM

Mexicans moved into California to serve moneyed whites. Whites eventually got sick of the crime and degraded society that Mexicans cause, and moved away. Mexicans figured out where the whites are now, strapped a mattress to the roof of the car, filled the back seat with kids and pregnant teenage cousins, and followed the whites. (Inspired by this.)

Now Colorado--a prime escape-from-California spot--is overflowing with Mexicans who mow lawns, wash cars, swing hammers, push brooms, flip burgers, and do other menial jobs ideally suited to their abilities. Guess what? Whites are starting to move out of Colorado.

Where do they think they can go that the Mexicans won't follow?

I honeymooned in Mexico and loved it. I liked almost all the people I dealt with. I now live in the People's Republic of Mexifornia, and I hate the Mexicans who are turning the Golden State into the Brown State. Every time I see them, I think (or mutter), "get out of my country!" (Then again, Moslems inspire the same response ;-)

Time for a 2000-mile-long border fence and a replay of Eisenhower's "Operation Wetback."

With it's political views, Kalifornia might as well be on the moon.

Posted by: vetfromhell on January 3, 2007 06:50 PM

Hi, I'm new...

I think it could go either way.

Yeah you're cutting out the S in the equation also remember that D is equally important.

Energy companies will definitely suffer a sharp decline in revenues if you take one of their biggest clients, The State of California, out.

Michelle - I'm from the Bay Area. I'm not sure what statistics you are referring to about the Bay Area having less Spare the Air Days than the Central Valley however as far as I can recall, we maxed out on our Spare the Air days. And pollution in the Central Valley can't be blamed on the Bay Area directly. You can thank your neighbors in Merced and Los Banos and all the other bedroom Central Valley towns who make the 2.5-hour commute to work in Silicon Valley.

Alan, what kind of machinery does your brother operate on a 24-7 basis to warrant such a huge energy bill? How big is his home? I'm sure the bill was expensive, but I doubt it's over $800 for a home. We pay waaaay less than that to light, air-condition, heat, not to mention power up several servers and 200 desktops.

And that's in the Fabled Bay Area, land of the million-dollar fixer-upper and high energy costs. We pay up to 20 cents more than the rest of the state for a gallon of gas.

So for your brother in Fresno, unless he operates a food processing outfit there, I would say that figure is highly unlikely.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to crash like this. You have a great blog.

Thanks.

Soy eater, my brother has a house. No food processing plant. A 3000 square house, with a big yard, and a well and pump. In order to keep his house cool (remember we're talking Fresno) and his lawn alive, that's what it costs. Bay area wouldn't know nuttin' about utility bills.

Posted by: Alan on January 3, 2007 08:55 PM

Unix-Jedi - For some reason I had an additional tag there. That's what happens when I post stuff after drinking.

Posted by: Denny on January 3, 2007 09:58 PM

Squidley-

That 2,000 mile fence is a pipe dream. It's never going to happen. I fully agree, we should have it (and make the wetbacks in our prisons/on welfare build it), but until the moronic masses wake up and see reality for what it is instead of getting their daily dose of spoon-fed bullshit from Government and LSM, they will continue down the path of self destruction and take all Mexifornian's with them.

I hope you are well armed, or you and your wife get the fuck out before it hits the fan. I hope I'm out before that too, 'cause it's gonna happen sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.

I loved the crap that came out of CA a few years ago, the state was claiming that 100% of all generating facilities were running at 98% to satisfy the need!

I could do nothing but laugh as I lived in Page AZ at the time, big ass dam as well as a coal fired three unit plant as well.

The river was but a trickle, they were running 3 of 8 turbines, one of the stacks was fired up, another started during the screaming, but the three units never ran and 5 of the turbines in the dam as well never generated a spark!

Dat boy wit da $850 a month electric bill needs to kick the shit outta some family members fer sure! Then run up the hill and put up a windmill! 8500 KWH's a month! Dang my hotel only used about double that during the summer when the A/C was sucking it down! Or he has one hella nice job, lets see, 1900 mortgage, another grand for two cars in the yard, and a grand for electricity! Bet he could hire a couple of dem brown folks and put'em on a human powered generator for less?

At any rate, Andy Rooney did a ditty several years ago, an observation about how nice it will be once we are all brown!

Posted by: TC on January 4, 2007 12:55 AM

I definitely agree with Soy-Eating. What Energy Company could ignore such a client? Look at your car market. Toyota is winning because it adapted to the need of low fuel consumption. And GM is loosing. Same thing with energy market : customers (state of California for example) want clean air regulation, suppliers will have to adapt their offer or to die.

Posted by: Prosper on January 4, 2007 03:11 AM

I live in Tulsa and it seems that this is one of the preferred destinations for people leaving CA and some other western states. I hear that housing is down in the country but one home builder here is claiming that he is up over a quarter from last year. Almost all of the homes he is building are being bought by people from out of state. And, we already have the Mexicans in place.

Posted by: Titan Mk6B on January 4, 2007 09:08 AM

Prosper......

Toyota is winning because of the fact their cars are of superior quality ,do not break down as often & last longer. For the most part,It is not because of lower fuel consumption or environmental concerns. Yes, there are exceptions... remember not so many years ago the YUGO came along & the Environmentalists thought they had died & gone to heaven ......until the repair bills piled up on their doorstep`s. If you look at the Hollywood environmental crowd , you will see a whole lot more Big SUV`s then Environmentally friendly rollerskates in their garage`s & driveway`s.........Do as we say not as we do!!!

Posted by: dudley1 on January 4, 2007 12:50 PM

Another reason Toyota is so successful with its hybrid is that the ugly thing doesn't look like anything else on the road. Just by owning one, liberals can feel superior without having to actually say anything.

The Soy-Eater (welcome!) has a good point, but Denny's is stronger. I predict higher prices and another energy crisis for the People's Republic.

CD,

Thanks for the thoughts. We're working on both armament and leaving.

Even if the full 2000 mile fence is a dream, we need to keep pointing out what is necessary. Given the current climate, we can only hope for step-by-step progress to the ultimate goal of a illegal alien-free America. So I call for 2000 miles of fence and will be (temporarily) happy with 700 miles. Now if Congress would just fund it!

Posted by: Squidley on January 4, 2007 01:29 PM

dudley1 - You're wrong on this one and Prosper is right. I just saw another pig flying by. We are seeing a rerun of the 70's when Detroit was making gas guzzlers when the oil embargo hit and prices rose. GM and others didn't increase their fuel economy because of the gummint rules, but because of competition frpm Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. In fact, they eventually exceeded the gummint standards.

Rerun time. When gas got cheap again, Americans fell in love with SUV's which were exempt from the CAFE standards. Detroit bet their future on SUV's and now that gas is once again expensive, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are again kicking ass. Plus, they make better cars, but it is the fuel economy driving sales.

Prosper - California is effectively driving up their power costs by limiting their supply of energy. California quit building power plants a while back and are forced to buy more and more of their energy from out of state suppliers. Now they're limiting the suppliers who can sell to them. Economic suicide.

Posted by: Denny on January 4, 2007 01:31 PM

I agree with many of your comments particularly regarding FEMA and the handouts...As to the Economic Suicide article that is totally Bogus. Very akin to saying "Deliverance and Jimmy the Peanut Carter" personify Georgia.

California's major investor-owned utilities -- PG&E, Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric -- face fines that could reach into the millions if they don't have contracts in hand by Dec. 31, 2010, ensuring that 20 percent of their electricity comes from solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, tidal energy or hydropower from small dams.

The measure does not affect cities that run their own utilities, such as Palo Alto, Santa Clara and Los Angeles. But the ``Big Three'' utilities provide electricity to the majority of California's population.

13% of the state's electricity currently comes from RE so it is not that big of a stetch....

California's major problem is no enforcement of borders....So. Calif is fast becoming Guadalajara North...San Francisco is a collection of idiots. The Valley is Spanish speaking Farmland and please to not distribute this info but from Sacramento North is the greatest place in the USA until you hit the Oregon Border and more fruitcakes.

Thank you for spreading disinformation to keep many people out and convincing others to leave.

PS: I do apologize for having elected Dipshit Jerry Brown, "Little Peter" Wilson, Babble Boxer and Pelosi.....I did vote for weasel Wilson the first time....phony asshole that he turned out to be.

Posted by: K Jolley on January 4, 2007 04:09 PM

K Jolley - I'm not disseminating too much disinformation. It is a fact that whites, Mexicans, and blacks are leaving California. Hopefully, if enough Asians, the only demographic that is growing, continue to enter California, they may be able to restore some sanity, but I don't think it will happen in time. After Ah-nold leaves office, y'all will elect another Davis and California will continue its socialist policies and will completely destroy your economy. As it is, my sister escaped and was able to make enough on her dinky little house in Redwood City to buy a 3800 Square foot house in S. Carolina, buy all new furniture, buy a 2004 BMW Z3, and still have money left over. I stand my my assertion that California will have massive power shortages in the near future.

Posted by: Denny on January 4, 2007 10:34 PM

Most countys outside San Fran and LA area are republican or evenly split...Unfortunatly we are greatly outnumbered by the wierdo's in San Fran and the welfare mentality LA folks.....therefore they wield the major political power by virtue of sheer numbers....Most of N. Cal would prefer to separate into it's own state, however the Southland and Bay area have confiscated and control our water and other resources making it impractical. I can only hope you are wrong about how bad the choice will be for Goobner...but I greatly fear it is headed toward being a militant liberal Mexican. Then the entire South West better damn well beware....Regards

K Jolley-
First you write,
"Thank you for spreading disinformation to keep many people out and convincing others to leave."

Then you write,
"Then the entire South West better damn well beware....Regards".

"Damn well beware"? What do you mean by that? Do you mean that by the "disinformation" we should damn well leave, or that by the "disinformation" we should convince others to leave?

Please clairify...

All I can say is that Toy Cars are good in MN, they will rust away to nothing before they stop running. They work in the summer and survive the winter. Alot of the kids drive 'em. The hybrid cars are just plain dopey. They don't have any guts and can't get out of the way of my SUV when I need to MERGE over them whilst entering onto the Freeway. At least Jetta Drivers are able to cut and run after cutting me off...I hate Jetta Drivers Argh.

Posted by: LisaKay on January 5, 2007 07:18 AM

Denny....

I stand by my statement, while many do buy Japanese cars, most of those cars run on gas. My son`s wife drives a Honda element. it is very roomy , works great around town & for shopping. She has over 80,000 miles on it with only a tire change required. My son drives a Ford full size pickup F-150. Me, I drive a Ford F-250, My wife drives a Ford Explorer.

Most people still drive full size cars wherever they are manufactured & are not interested in sacrifice for pseudo-environmental concerns. Yes, there are some , a small minority percentage which is growing but will remain a minority. Those who can afford to pay more at the pump ......like the hollywood crowd or SRF`s could care less about Algore BS & will continue to demand safety as well as comfort over economy.

The only possible change I see to alter this is if alternative fuel becomes cheap enough & plentiful to be attractive to use. Unless of course the Leftwing environmental wackoloons persuade the dimocrats to pass some Federal legislation forcing all of us to do otherwise for our own good. Gee, this is beginning to sound familiar, isn`t it!

Posted by: dudley1 on January 5, 2007 09:26 AM

dudley1, in the People's Republic of Mexifornia, gasoline is adulterated with some non-petrochemical (I don't recall exactly what). While it may reduce emissions, it increases the cost of gas and wears out engines faster.

They do it so that
1. liberals in San Fagcisco, the People's Democratic Republic of Bezerkley, and elsewhere can feel good about themselves; and
2. the "air" in LA needs to be cut with a knife before breathing it only 150 days a year.

I can't wait to leave, I can't wait to leave....
