SOTU Recap

In case y'all missed the SOTU Address here's a recap.

President is announced. He walks in. He shakes hands with lots of people, even Dimocrats who hate him. It's amazing what politicians will do to get on camera. To get those aisle seats they have to get there really early. McCommie used to do that every year.

Pelosi announces him. More applause. He says some nice things about her being the first female Speaker of the House. It would have been better if he would have turned around and bitch-slapped her and said, "That's for saying all those rotten things about me you stupid cow!"

Economy. It's good.

1. Balance the budget in five years (According to Steve it's gonna happen next year.) without raising taxes and employing spending discipline. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Spending discipline? From this president? Maybe with the Dims in power he might actually veto a spending bill.

2. Cutting earmarks. This I gotta see.

3. Fix Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Didn't say how.

Ted Kennedy looked like he was falling asleep. Must have had too many shots of Chivas at lunch.

Education.

1. He didn't come right out and say it, but he described a voucher program.

2. Renew No Child Left Behind. In other words, let's throw more money at education.

Health Care.

1. Tax deduction for health insurance. That will never get through a Dimocrat Congress.

2. Grants for states implementing gummint health plans. That will get through Congress.

3. Expand Health Savings Accounts.

4. Medical liability reform. Forget about that getting through since the Dims are owned by the trial lawyers.

Immigration.

1. Secure the borders. With the Dims in charge we can forget about that.

2. Temporary worker program.

3. Enforce immigration laws at the workplace. I won't hold my breath on this one.

4. Did he misspeak? I heard him say about the 12 million illegals "...with no animosity and no amnesty." WTF? He's giving up on amnesty? If it were only true.

Energy.

1. Clean coal, solar, wind (as long as the windfarms aren't in the Kennedy's sailing areas), and nuclear power.

2. Improved battery technology for hybrid cars.

3. Ethanol.

4. Reduce gasoline consumption by 20% in ten years.

5. More domestic drilling. Like that's gonna happen.

6. Double the capacity of the strategic petroleum reserve.

Judges. Need more. Ain't gonna get 'em. This Senate will shoot down most of his appointments unless they're liberal.

War on Terror.

1. Take the fight to the enemy. Sorry, the Dims are like the French. They prefer to surrender. They wanted us to lose to the commies and they want us to lose to the terrorists.

2. Talked about some of the plots we have stopped.

3. He actually stated what we are fighting: Islamic terrorism both Sunni and Shia. Unlike the new chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Bush actually knows that al Qaeda is Sunni and Hizbollah is Shia. I expect to read about CAIR whining tomorrow.

McCain looks like he's falling asleep. He must have had lunch with Swimmer.

4. Let's go for victory in Iraq. Republicans applaud while the Dims remain seated because they do not want us to win in Iraq.

5. More troops in Baghdad. 4000 more Marines in Anbar Province.

Pelosi is thinking, "Not if I can help it! When will this speech end? Please don't let my botox wear off!"

Biden looks like he's falling asleep. He must have had lunch with Swimmer and McCain.

6. Bipartisan congressional advisory panel on the War on Terror. Dimocrats can come up with different ways to surrender.

7. Increase the size of the Army and Marines by 92,000 in five years.

Other stuff.

1. The UN is gonna keep Iran from getting nukes. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

2. Peaceful Palestinian state. Now there's an oxymoron.

3. Diplomacy to end North Korea's nuclear program. Send Jimmah Carter. That worked last time didn't it?

4. Darfur. Who cares?

5. AIDS in Africa. Who cares?

6. $1.2 billion dollars for malaria in Africa. Give 'em some DDT.

In the gallery.

1. Professional basketball player from Africa.

2. Female entrepreneur.

3. New York Subway hero.

4. Iraq War hero.

I didn't see any shots of Hillary. I guess she hadn't had her latest botox injections so they kept her off camera. I didn't see any shots of Obama either.

And there you have it. SOTU 2007.

Better recap than CNN.

good report: to the point, no nonsense. thanks, denny.

Posted by: paul on January 23, 2007 11:54 PM

Obama sat directly in front of Hillary ... they showed them together perhaps 3 times in the same long-shot.

It was indeed a ho-hum Speech and rebuttal.

Here's what perked my ear before we tuned out and went back to shooting pool (with the SOTU on in the background):

BUSH:

And one of the first steps we can take together is to add to the ranks of our military, so that the American armed forces are ready for all of the challenges ahead.

(APPLAUSE)

Tonight I ask the Congress to authorize an increase in the size of our active Army and Marine Corps by 92,000 in the next five years.

(APPLAUSE)

A second task we can take on together is to design and establish a volunteer civilian reserve corps. Such a corps would function much like our military reserve.

BUSH: Such a corps would function much like our military reserve. It would ease the burden on the armed forces by allowing us to hire civilians with critical skills to serve on missions abroad when America needs them.

It would give people across America who do not wear the uniform a chance to serve in the defining struggle of our time.

*Me* -Please read that portion a few times ...; How does one volunteer and also be hired at the same time? Also, is that not the very definition of a mercenary? Forgive me if I'm wrong on this, but doesn't it say that if no one volunteers (perhaps because they see no moral or real threat to America), that we will pay market-rate for the services requested? As in supply-and-demand and 'market forces'?

Seems like a request for bounty hunters to me. You know, as in: "Wanted: Dead or Alive"?

We had a lazer counter on Peeloshi and she blinked so many times it burned out half way though. Would it be legal to double the count at halftime and add 50%?

Posted by: Scrapiron on January 24, 2007 12:29 AM

Blinked?

Blinking is bad?

If so, why is blinking indicitive of anything?

Are we supposed to not blink? Control our blinking? Perhaps not even think of blinking because it will ...

what?

I tell you true: It's hard to get with a program I didn't even know existed.

Posted by: DanS. on January 24, 2007 12:53 AM

Thanks, Denny. I fell asleep just after the Supreme Court Justices entered the chamber and missed the speech.

I briefly woke up as the Prez was walking out of the chamber signing autographs.

The best part was that I didn't hear any of the "analysis" by the network Gasbags.

Jim-PRS:

You had the PERFECT SOTU Experience!

I envy you.

Posted by: DanS. on January 24, 2007 01:01 AM

Ahh, the wonderments of the 21st Century!

IBMWI Marines & Soldiers!
As in "Ib Y"-Marine and "Ib Y"-Soldier.

IBNWI = "I Bought My Way In".

This is the stuff of Watch conversations at 0200-0400 since perhaps the American Civil War.

It was the prattle that kept one awake and alert. Never was it dreamed that such would become part of the SOTU at any time in the future.

Expand the Marines and the Army: Sure!

As if we are turning away volunteers?

Posted by: DanS. on January 24, 2007 01:26 AM

Maybe it's more like paying people to clap Tinkerbell back to life.

Posted by: DanS. on January 24, 2007 01:57 AM

I didn't see any shots of Hillary. I guess she hadn't had her latest botox injections so they kept her off camera. I didn't see any shots of Obama either.

She was just behind him. We (france) saw them both in the news...

Posted by: Prosper on January 24, 2007 02:37 AM

Pelosi's mouth was fidgeting and twisting like some of that Botox was leaking and didn't taste good.

Posted by: Who Dat on January 24, 2007 05:37 AM

No pardon for the border patrol agents? That would really have pissed off the dims.

Posted by: gene Hall on January 24, 2007 06:37 AM

Secure the borders. With the Dims in charge we can forget about that/

This doesn't bother me. Because at the end of the day Bush is still in charge and has the final say (hear that Prosper, of course France saw Hitlary and Osama, their leftist poster children to the French news networks {aka Muslim propaganda machines} so they're going to get lots of air time.

DanS, mercenaries, guns for hire, bounty hunters. Its about F#$%ing time. Why we (the USA) haven't implemented this program in the past is beyond me. Now if we can just change that ridiculous rule about us not asassinating other leaders, then "all the world belong to us" will be true. :)

this comment is for denny: (dans, no one comes here for your diarrhetic opinion)

i thought it was remarkable. i think george bush embodies grace under pressure like few i've ever seen. sotu addresses are always simplistic and optimistic, but how impressive to have a leader that stays the course, sticks to his core beliefs and leads as we elected him to lead. fantastic. i respect a lot of what most people hate about him. odd, but true.

i couldn't stay up to see the rebuttals but i tivoed them. why was pelosi chewing on her lips the whole time? she was being such a contortionist behind the president, at times, it was seriously distracting.

thanks for the recap, denny. your outline really gets to the heart of it!

Posted by: shoe on January 24, 2007 07:30 AM

SOTU.....

Denny, you are as usual on target, nothing will be accomplished during the next two years. I did not watch as much as I normally would , it all seemed to be staged & actually looked like the last SOTU speakathon except McKinney did not bull through the crowd like a line backer intent on sacking the PREZ.

Dan S...take a pill or two & chill out
Prosper .....You saw Hilly & Obama the muslim closeteer. Whoopee F--ken Do! Get back to your muslim studies or sew crescent & swords on your white surrender flags.
Shoe.. Yes the Prez does seem to embody grace ....but it might just be like Muhhamed Ali, he has taken to many head shots during his time in the game. Once I thought he had a shot for super star Presidential status but under the constant pressure from the LSM, Dim`s & attack liberals has faded back to the journeyman level & there just barely. What a pity!

Posted by: dudley1 on January 24, 2007 08:09 AM

wow, dudley, the ali analogy is a great one. thanks for that!

Posted by: shoe on January 24, 2007 08:30 AM

Really, what the hell was up with Pelosi's mouth? It looked like she was chewing her cud. She was an excellent indicator, with her applause or not, of what chances some of what W laid out. Her best sitting on her hands, sour puss expression, was when the President said he wanted a voucher program. Oh boy, the teacher's unions have the long knives out for the slightest hint of vouchers.

President Bush is far more gracious than I could ever hope to be. The root of our problems is sitting right in front of him(and right behind) and he's the picture of courtesy.

Fuckem, I watched Law and Order reruns, Cat

Posted by: Catfish on January 24, 2007 10:49 AM

I'm with Catfish. Why watch what you know will be siplistic BS. Nothing of any real importance ever comes out of these things. The Dems so hate the President that nothing will be done as long as he remains in the office.

Immigration #4:

"Did he misspeak? I heard him say about the 12 million illegals "...with no animosity and no amnesty." WTF? He's giving up on amnesty? If it were only true."

Exactly. Remember the thunderous applause he garnered for his "comprehensive immigration reform" comment? That's doublespeak for "amnesty."

See, according to W, if you don't call it amnesty, it isn't, even if you forgive the illegals all their crimes against us, i.e., grant them amnesty.

A-hole.

Today I found this great site: The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration. Required reading.

Posted by: Squidley on January 24, 2007 05:05 PM

Cat,
How could you watch Law and Order reruns at a time like that? We watched CSI reruns, so there.

I know you think I'm an idiot because I post as the Spirit moves me.

I want you to KNOW that it is YOU who are the Spirit.

Lay Off on blaming and accusing me; I'm but a Daily Reader.

I don't come here with an agenda or pre-conceptions. I come here as I've said since Day One so many years ago.... there are daily posts.

Dig?
