No wind generators in my ocean view, either.
Posted by: Jim Macklin on February 22, 2007 01:55 AMI have to laugh at all these politicians jumping on the ethenol bandwagon to get reelected. Now corn prices at the store is doubling and the fucking Mexicans in Mexico can't afford their tortillas. Now they'll be another million a month coming over the border.
On the same subject; has anyone read about the new immigration bill in the Senate that they are ramrodding through? Seems as if Ted Kennedy and his cohort John McCain has let the Chamber of Commerce and La Raza and some lobbyists write this bill and no Republicans could attend the meetings. Even Arlen Specter is crying foul.
I think it was Dennis Miller who said, The headline in the newspapers tomorrow could report "Bush walks on Water" and underneath it would read Bush can't swim...ARGH

Posted by: LisaKay on February 22, 2007 08:00 AMLets see, they are in favor of wind farms,
oops, no they aren't. They oppose them whether they are in Nantuickett, or the Flint hills.
They love solar power, oops, They complain that solar arrays on houses are ugly. Some home owner associations have moved to forbid them.
They all use low energy transportation, oops, the rich ones drive big SUV's and the poor ones ride smog generating public trans, and Nancy P. Lousy wants a private jet to ferry her to SanFranfreakshow.
Dem energy plan? Blame Bush, big oil and Haliburton. Did they forget that Al Gore got given oil leases by Clinton?
I remember hearing a radio broadcast several months ago (it was either Prager or Medved) that had a scientist on that stated that the amount of forests that would have to be cut down for enough crops to be a source for ethanol was in the millions of acres. It just isn't that good of an energy source (but maybe, with enough time and engineering, it could be. But look at how long it has taken solar cells to reach, what 40% efficiency? Drill for oil here, now, build modern nuclear plants, eliminate some of the more stupid EPA regs (like the one where by a simple change in a turbine design, the plan could boost its output by 15% with ZERO increase in its emissions, but since any change to the plant meant that all of the systems were required to be upgraded, it never happened. Heard that one on Boortz a few years ago) and pass the Fair Tax! (Had to throw that one in!) Oh, and ex-Marine Murtha SUCKS!
Posted by: Clutch on February 22, 2007 04:12 PMSome more facts on ethanol:
*It takes more than one gallon of petroleum (in the form of fertilizers) to make a gallon of corn-based ethanol.
*Ethanol is still significantly more expensive than gasoline.
*Ethanol cannot be transported via pipelines, thereby increasing its cost.
*Ethanol yields less energy per gallon than gasoline, meaning worse mileage.
*Gas-ethanol fuel causes car engines to wear out more quickly than straight gasoline.
*Gas-ethanol fuel produces higher levels of emissions than straight gasoline.
I swiped this info from here and here.

Now why would you want to rain on the environment friendy parade for the use of Ethanol? Facts have never got in the way of an environmental conclusion before, why start now?
It is amazing to what extreme length`s & avoidance for truth environmentalists will indulge in for qualification of their pet beliefs.I used to post on a website "Green nature.com" to provide facts in opposition to the wackoloon environmental conclusions being presented. The web site administrator finally abandoned any sense of fair play & eliminated commentary from anybody as previous commentary was against the pseudo-environmetalist position`s (9) to (1).
I had considerable company in posting facts & viewpoints which disputed her conclusions or that which she did allow on her site.Rather then to offer credible proof for her positions or to show our opposing views were incorrect, she chose to silence the opposition ......Seems to be a common liberal trait.
Most environmental activists are left wing liberal`s & just as liberal socialists in the political realm, lie, falsify, ignore reality & are arrogant beyond belief. Truth is not a fellow traveler with liberal causes, truth is a stranger in a strange land when it comes to statements uttered by leftwing politician`s or environmentalists.
Posted by: dudley1 on February 23, 2007 08:52 AMSquidley, If 100% of US corn production were dedicated to ethanol, what would be left for human consumption? The answer, if you ACTUALLY find it WILL astound you.
Hint, type ethanol facts in your browser, then go to ethanol myths.
Ethanol uses only the starch. The protein and minerals remain and are still usable for food production.
I agree that ethanol is not going to replace gasoline, but it does provide options, and research is moving forward on other alternatives.
I'm not an eco nut, I'm a realist. There is a finite ammount of oil in the world. eventually it will be consumed. When that happens we will need to have alternatives already in place to replace oil.
I'm not much of a fan of the price subsidies the gov gives. The corporate welfare system sucks.
I love solar and wind power. Just think, we might some day harness all the hot air coming out of Washington and make something useful out of it.
They should put this guy in charge of energy. Sadly the oil companies wouldn't go for it. This story is a little old now and it's likely his patent has been bought and flushed down the toilet. You know, this could make us less dependant on terrorist oil and then when we have to go to war these people (ragheads and Dim-wits alike) would really know we care more for the people and not the oil industry.

A car engine that runs on water.....Now the fishery environmentalists will be upset that there is not enough water for the snail darters because we are using it up. Since water is comprised of (2) parts hydrogen & (1) part oxygen , it is amazing a technology to make use of water for combustion has not been developed as a feasible alternative to oil for a reasonable cost.
My favorite is solar power, when this is developed sometime in the future , energy costs will be very low in comparison to today.
