Oh crap! I gotta go taste some Zinfandel wines tonight at a Sommelier Guild of Atlanta wine tasting.
Posted by denny at February 22, 2007 04:45 PMAnd I suppose you want us to feel sorry for ya, right??? *S*
Posted by: Michele on February 22, 2007 04:47 PMI tend to favor the ones from Russian River and Dry Creek Valley. Seghesio, Hartford, and Rosenblum. Look forward to your notes.
Posted by: Glen on February 22, 2007 06:43 PMCan you get that stuff fortified?
Have fun.
Have a drink for Pumpman, too. White Zin was his potable of choice.
Posted by: Ralph Gizzip on February 22, 2007 09:17 PMWe actually had a Seghesio and a Rosenblum. One of my favorite Zins is the Sin Zin from Alexander Valley Vineyards. We did not have that one. No notes from this tasting. Sorry.
Posted by: Denny on February 22, 2007 10:11 PMIf I were a SRF, I'd drink Ridge Zinfandels at least once a week. Rosenblum is also always woroth overindulging. I'll take your recommendation on the Sin Zin.
If you ever get the chance seek out two premium wines from Croatia - "Postup" and "Dingac", both are made with something called the "Prokupac" grape, and taste far more like premium Zin than that Primitivo stuff.
Chuck S. - Yes Zinfandel makes some wonderful Port-style wines.
And please do not knock White Zin; properly made it can be wonderful. Sadly that is rearely the case any more.
Posted by: Rurik on February 23, 2007 01:13 AMYeah, Sin Zin is a very user-friendly Zinfandel. And reasonably priced.
What other Zins didja have? Any Mendocino or Amador County bottlings? The one area I'm not a big fan of is Paso Robles...
And Rurik is right about White Zin. Those made in the mid 1980s from premium grapes (De Loach comes to mind) were quite enjoyable quaffs. I imagine many people like myself got into fine wine at that time by starting on good White Zins and Chardonnays...
Denny,
How do get through the day? These tribulatons you face. But somehow, I think you'll survive, I mean come on...zinfandel? What will they think up next?
Godspeed Denny.
