So last Wednesday, I was reading the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation and I came upon the following letter in the Readers Write section.

We lock ourselves away from each other in gated communities. We look suspiciously at each other for fear that we might be harmed. Our country as a whole is experiencing a form of post-traumatic stress syndrome in that there are epidemic cases of depression and other mental illnesses.
Our forefathers never intended the Second Amendment to be abused the way the NRA and other gun proponents have used it. They never would have written this amendment into the Constitution had they known the havoc and grief that it has caused. These were intelligent men who were reacting to the times. But times have changed.

What a colossal crock of shit! Obviously this twit doesn't know a shred of history. The Second Amendment was put into the Constitution for a reason. It was to protect the citizenry from an onerous form of gummint. What is one of the first things totalitarian states do? They confiscate all guns. Look at Nazi Germany. This guy needs to read the Declaration of Independence, especially the part that goes:

The havoc and grief? What about the havoc and grief caused by proudly announcing that Virginia Tech was a "gun free zone". Gun free zone translates into unarmed victims, which is exactly what the killer found.
If our forefathers were alive today, they would be even more in favor of the Second Amendment. What they would be shocked to see is our level of taxation. I can see Jefferson looking at Adams and saying, "We fought a war about taxation for this? Holy crap! Why do the people put up with these incredibly high taxes."
And then Adams would reply, "I know I believe in a strong central gummint, but the size and scope of this monster is ridiculous!"
James Madison: "Dude! What happened to our Constitution? We have career politicians, where we expected citizen legislators. We have a Congress passing unconstitutional laws and a judiciary not declaring these laws unconstitutional. We have parasites who feed at the gummint trough and politicians who keep them that way so they can buy their votes. We have a news media who perpetuates this corrupt gummint. Where did we go wrong?"
Nope! I don't think the Founders would want to eliminate the Second Amendment. On the contrary, they would be glad that it is in the Constitution. On the other hand, had they realized that there was gonna be a political class of career politicians, they would have put term limits in the Constitution. It's a pity they didn't.
They tried to write a constitution to protect the citizens from the gummint. Over time we are seeing the Constitution slowly being shredded by both parties. Soon it will be nothing but a worthless piece of paper.

No, I don't believe the Framers envisioned assault rifles, and I wish there were absolutely no reason for their being available. Problem is, tho, that once a weapon is developed (usually for the military), bad guys will eventually get their hands on a copy. Any weapon is an "assault" weapon if it's used to assault someone. I happen to use my firearms for fun; Shooting contests with good friends in the middle of the Kalifornia desert for a weekend is Heaven for me. Ill intentions? Nope!
When I sit down for dinner tonight, I think I'm going to use my assault fork, and assault steak knife. If I drank wine, I would use my assault cork screw, but since I'm a beer drinker, I'll have to settle with my assault bottle opener.

My Mother was working then in detective Area 3 of CPD and she would bring home nightly the 'general orders of the day' that were passed around at Roll Call. People were to be smacked and shackled simply for BEING in the Park in those days.

The point so many miss is that our founding fathers and people of their time also believed in the teachings of The Ten Commandments.
We have always had guns in our society but it only became an issue when the "enlightened" decided we only need the Constitution without the guidance of God.
It started out as the Fifth Amendment, they dropped one and it became the Fourth and when the Bill of Rights was ratified, the first two in order did not pass. So we have the Second Amendment. The first amendment that did not pass 200+ years ago was recently ratified and is now the Twenty-seventh.
Back to gun and anti-gunners. They say we don't "need" guns because they are no good for self-defense. Of course they have done all they could, between liberal media not reporting successful self-defense unless there is great loss of life and passing "gun free zone" so you won't have a gun in order to prevent successful cases of self-defense.
If everybody DIDS carry a gun, the number of lunatics and criminals carrying guns would not increase, they already do carry guns. It is only in the hands of honest law-abiding citizens that the number of guns being carried can increase. Then we'd have some statistics!

Second Amendment.....
In my lifetime there is no other issue which upsets the Leftwing Liberals more than the second amendment. Why? because it insures the rest can be defended. Too many people forget it was a ragtag group of colonists with help from Lafayette who defeated the most powerful army on earth.
Liberals have a superior & snotty attitude to the rest of the citizens of this country.
1. They are convinced god made a mistake with giving man dominion over the animals & other creatures & are working to correct that error.
2.They feel our Forefathers made a horrendous mistake with the constitution & are working to change if not scrap it.
3. They are driven to organize & direct all aspects of every day life for the unwashed & semi- literate people who make up the underclass in this country, this world. This means all of us!
4.They believe we humans actually have the capacity to alter millions of years of normal climatic change & are a threat to this planet.
5. They believe with their self proclaimed intellect & belief they are Gods chosen , you & I have no right to challenge that which they choose to impose on this society as we are inferior.
The liberal Left will bring down this country if we ignore their agenda & let them triumph by default. they have made great progress to date with the help of the dimocratic party, the liberal halls of academia & the LSM.
The battleground today is the Second Amendment......We still hold the high ground on this issue but only if we remain vigilant.
