Thanks to the golf-guy I used to live with, I know more about golf than any non-golfer should. I actually understood most of what that guy was saying!

Made perfect sense to me.

At first I thought he was just blowing smoke, but that sounds like an actual - if very complicated - explantion of golf.

Wonder how long he had to practice to learn that pop-up shot?

The pop-up shot is a matter of set up and practice.
First thing is, you have to place the ball on a sprinkler head or hardpan, the ball won't pop like that off the grass.
Thew other thing is you have to descend on the forward half of the ball, striking it with the "bounce area" of a wedge. give it a try (but have a lot of golf balls ready)

The golf swing had 24 basic components with 12 to 14 variations each...

Whew, I'm so glad to hear that. All this time I was thinking that the golf swing was complicated. This is going to help a lot.

BTW I stole your link to this to show it to my teammates. They need to learn to keep thier swing this simple also.
