The wing man of the Blue Angels leader is always a U.S. Marine.

I love watching the Blue Angels! Sometimes when we're camping near El Centro, they will be practicing and come down for an up close fly-by. It always scares the shit out of someone, but it's one hell of a show to watch those guys in action.

CD - Dude! Camping near El Centro? Why? There's nothing there.

Its not just in the air. Even on the ground, the Angels and their ground crews put on a remarkable drill mounting and dismounting their planes, the likes of which I have not seen from the teams of any other nation.

Denny-
By "near El Centro" I should've said 20 miles west of El Centro, in a camping/riding area known as Superstition. You're right in that "there's nothing there" in El Crapo (except Mexicans, criminals, and Mexican criminals). I forgot that you know San Diego/Imperial Counties so well.

I believe there is an old bombing range near where we ride or somewhere near Plaster City. Superstition is a great place to ride dirtbikes, buggy's etc.

I mostly camp in the Chocolate Mtns.,near the Yuma border where we don't see anyone else the whole time we are there! That is freedom! We have nothing but peace and quiet and gunfire and music and horse-shoes and cards and laughter and lots and lots of alcohol, but not necessarily in that order...

It's my definition of Heaven...

Question : does anyone know about the yellow painting on those blue angels? Since it's not a color of your flag, I was just wondering...

When I was little, about a hunert years ago, the Blue Angels were part of our Air show. Our little 10 acres was where they would turn around. We'd always be out with the three neighbors, the planes would fly like your last photo, just perpendicular to our short street. They would wave at us. The word Awesome doesn't quite seem to do them justice. You can't forget something like that, even if your front yard is over one acre in length.

Prosper:

The US Navy's official colors are Blue and Gold.

The original F6F Hellcats the first Blue Angels flew actually had gold leaf over their blue paint, when they transitioned to the F8F Bearcat, they went with yellow paint.

Thank You Unix, I was sure that it meant more than just color theory.

I wish I had a dollar for every push-up I gave for the "blue and gold". : )

Awesome photos. I love those guys. Always wanted to get a ride in one those puppies.

When I lived in lovely downtown Noho, they always did a routine at the Westover Air show and their flight path was right over my house. I used to sit on the stoop and just watch them.

And a belated Memorial Day thanks to the military folks who hang out here. Sorry I'm late but I appreciate you every day anyway.
