It's Dead

On the front page of the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation was the headline: Immigration Bill Dealt Huge Blow.

That sure warmed the cockles of my heart.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) made good on his promise to pull the bill from the floor if debate were not limited. The measure failed 45-50, with most Republicans voting "no." Georgia Republican Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson voted against cutting off debate. Sixty votes were needed to approve the procedural vote.

Guess I'll have to go to NumbersUSA and send some more faxes to my senators.

So hopefully the bill is dead. Now, rather than passing comprehensive reform, why don't we control our borders first by building a fence? Not that dinky 700 mile fence that was promised and not delivered, but a full 2100 mile fence. After we've stemmed the tide of the illegals coming into this country by securing our southern border, then we can decide what to do about the 12 to 20 million of the illegals already in this country.

It's common sense. You can bail the water out of the boat as long as you want, but it won't stop filling up until you patch the hole in it.

Just remember, the 1986 immigration bill (written in part by Ted Kennedy) was supposed to stop the horde of illegals coming into this country. Did it work? Hardly. So what makes anyone think that the latest incarnation of immigration "reform" is gonna be any better? Congress loves passing new laws that are unneeded because there are laws already on the books that are not enforced.

Build a fence! Build a fence! Build a fence! Build a fence! Build a fence!

Control the border! Control the border! Control the border! Control the border! Control the border!

Mexico does a better job securing its southern border than we do securing ours. Maybe we oughta outsource our border control to Mexicans since it seems to be that border security is another "job that Americans won't do".

GOC, people have already tried to dig under sections of the Minuteman's fence. What is more effective at controlling borders than a fence? Ask South Koreans, and they will say a Minefield. Landmines have kept the Commies at bay for fifty years. The US never signed the UN treaty dealing with them. It is perfectly legal, and a little bit more cost effective to maintain then a fence. Plus the psychological implications of a sign saying "DANGER: MINEFIELD".

Posted by: Lucky on June 8, 2007 03:57 PM

Seriously.

How come all the debates and protests and speeches cry about "immigration"? How come nobody is actually protesting "illegal immigration", which is the problem ?

Posted by: Greg on June 8, 2007 03:57 PM

I got a way to solve all of this. We bring ALL the troops home(This will make the leftist'giddy with joy), Then we invade Mexico. Thats right we invade Mexico. We take the whole damn country over. Out of this we gain coastline, ports, more oil (This will piss off the leftists') more land too exploit, and oh yeah did I mention the people. We get a cheap workforce, and the best part....EVERYBODY is now a U.S. citizen. Since Mexico doesnt want to clean up its act I say we solve it for them. No more corruption, drug running, smuggling people over the southern boarder cause Uncle Sam will move that son of a bitch a little further south for ya. Plus the soon to be former citizens of Mexico should love this no more sneaking over the boarder in the dead of night, getting lost in the desert, having to pay alot for really good papers etc, etc. I think this is a win-win for everyone.

Posted by: Echo5Bravo on June 8, 2007 06:46 PM

The way we solve this problem is to elect Ron Paul. Its time everyone got behind the only real conservative left.

Posted by: JonG on June 8, 2007 09:32 PM

The fence could be a liability if they do not deport the 20 million that are already here illegally. Without deportation, we would be fencing them IN.

Surly I jest? Let's look at what Paul stands for. He is the only choice right now.

Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress.

Posted by: JonG on June 8, 2007 10:06 PM

Yep JonG. That's why he is hated by both the Dimmocrats and the Repugnicrats.

Posted by: ΛΕΟΝΙΔΑΣ on June 8, 2007 10:21 PM

Ron Paul has about much of a chance for president as Rosie does winning the weight watchers award for subtraction for loss of weight.
He has great ideas but how would he ever get anything done with the corrupt congress we have?
Fred Thompson will be the nominee of the Republicans and the next president of this great country. Put it in the books!

Comment on "It's Dead":

How about Fred Thompson (prez) w/ Newt as Vice

versus

Hillary/Oback-O-Rama?

I'd say THAT would be a race that would bring about ALL of America to the polls!

Assuming no allegations of Diebold & all of that, I'm thinking such a match-up would both clarify & restore the America of my understanding as being truly representative of the Will of the American People.

GWB would be able to hideout at his Paraguay ranch and be ASTOUNDED at America re-asserting itself in it's innate GLORY.

Posted by: DanS on June 8, 2007 11:45 PM

I completely agree with you. First seal the borders and then discuss what to do with the illegals already here. To me it doesn't make sense to do them both at the same time. What everybody seems to be proposing makes me think of bailing water out of a sinking boat without plugging up the holes in the hull first.

Posted by: J.Doe on June 9, 2007 09:02 AM

Okay Denny perhaps your right. Seriously I have a fix for this.

1. Close the boarder. Not with a virtual fence but with a real wall.

2. End the two tier justice system we have here.Get stopped for not having a licence, no insurance and no I.D.? You go to jail. Have a false I.D. you use to get a bank account, get a loan, obtain medical help at the emergency room for free? Go to jail.

3. Fine the owners and CEO's of companys hiring illegals. First time $10,000 fine per illegal.
Second time 30 days in jail per illegal. (You dont see the guys that hired them coming out in handcuffs in the raid do you?)

4. End birth right citizenship. One parent has to be a U.S. citizen for the child to be one.

5. End goverment handouts to illegals. No more public schools, free medical, no taxes, W.I.C., A.D.C., bilingual public access and required translaters that go with this.

When we cut off all the jobs, free rides and handouts most will self deport, after all no one goes to Disneyworld when its closed. The ones that dont will have to be deported. The word will get out and people will stop coming.

Posted by: Echo5Bravo on June 9, 2007 09:36 AM

JonG, Ron paul? Good gravy baby, you weren't around in the Ross Perot days were you? You'd be better off voting for Nader and buying an h.Ron paul won't be the nominee, so please pick a staunch conservative.
Dan S. I'm an election judge, because I want to make sure the process is right on. In My town it is, it's something that most of us judges take very seriously. Stop with the Diebold goofy blathering already. The results are the same on election day as they are when they are certified and again when I get the results mailed to me at my house later on. Maybe you should go in for the job in your town? I feel that it's everyone's civic duty to be part of the process. They pay you a bit and you can take yourself out for a fab dinner.
BTW:the Mexicans come here because they still aren't convinced that they don't own us.

Posted by: LisaKay on June 9, 2007 09:56 AM

I like the minefield idea, but these limp-wristed liberals don't even want AMERICAN citizens to own guns. What do you think they'll say about a pregnant Mexican bitch getting blown to shreds because she's too fuckin' stupid to stay out of a MINEFIELD (even if we write the signs in Spanish)?

I think we should round them all up and send them to Iraq. Want to be a U.S. citizen, Pedro? 5-year mandatory enlistment. No benefits and no pay either. After five years, we MIGHT allow them to apply for citizenship (if the que isn't already full).

For anyone who thinks this is too harsh, I think it's a concession from the DEATH PENALTY concept I originally devised.

See? I'm too nice to people. It's my greatest flaw, actually.

The Ted Kennedy quote about the "One Time" amnesty of 1986 goes "This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal aliens. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this."

Amd please keep this in mind the next time you read the AJC's liars, and others, claiming that most people are in favor of giving gate-crashers legal status. They like to quote the NY Times/CBS Poll results but, gee, somehow they omit this little jewel from that same poll "Indeed, when a different question in the Times poll — one that did not make the front page — asked respondents if they wanted to see illegal immigrants prosecuted and deported, 69 percent said yes." Greg,

Immigration, both legal and illegal, is the problem. There are too many of both, and mostly from the wrong parts of the world. Legal immigration is turning the country from a white majority (90% in 1960) to a mutli-culti hellhole. Illegal immigration is turning the country into a two-tiered system of haves and have-nots, with the latter being over-represented among criminals and welfare users.

Echo5Bravo,

(Post 1) I already hate sharing my country with Third-World, illiterate, uneducated, disease-bearing, criminal peons. Why on God's green earth would we want to make all Mexicans citizens? We don't need them, and they would complete the transformation of our country into a two-tiered Latin American hellhole--which is what Jorge W is striving for with his suicidal immigration "reform." Invade Mexico and grant citizenship to them? No thanks.

(Post 2) As for Congress legislating to end the misconstrual of the 14th amendment and ending jus soli (citizenship by virtue of birth within the US)--YES. Your other ideas are also excellent.

JonG,

Tom Tancredo is also very much against immigration, and is a real conservative.

Marksman2000,

We don't need any more unskilled immigrants of any kind. The right place for Mexicans is--Mexico!

4. End birth right citizenship. One parent has to be a U.S. citizen for the child to be one.

I take minor exception to that. I disagree with it from both sides of the scale. Children born to legal resident aliens should continue to recieve citizenship automaticly. Children born to legal aliens with tourist visas, or student visas should not receive the citizenship unless the child is being given up for adoption as is sometimes the case with students here from China.
Any child born to an illegal mother should be sent home with the mom. To her country of origion that is, unless the father agrees to sole parent status. In all cases, if one parent is illegal, that parent should forfeit any future claim to U.S. citizenship if the child is to remain here with a legal parent.

5. End goverment handouts to illegals. No more public schools, free medical, no taxes, W.I.C., A.D.C., bilingual public access and required translaters that go with this.

Take that one step further and punish any entity that harbors or aids illegals. No medicaid funds for any hospital that has given aid to an illegal unless it was emergency room service, AND they turned the illegal over to INS for deportation.

We don't need any more unskilled immigrants of any kind. The right place for Mexicans is--Mexico!

We can still use unskilled immigrants as long as they arrive by legal means and adopt our culture and language.
Culture maybe, but language is a must! I'm sick of "for english press one en espaniol..." what about German, French, Russian, Chinese?????

Jeremy,

We really don't need to import unskilled labor. We have enough in the native workforce. After all, who was doing the jobs "Americans just won't do" before the illegal aliens were here? Americans! In fact, if you go to one of those blessed parts of the country where illegal aliens are few and far between, Americans still do those jobs.

Incidentally, Bush's lie that there are jobs "Americans just won't do" is unmitigated calumny and is horrendously offensive and insulting--to his fellow Americans! Has any other American president ever treated the citizenry of this country with the contempt W has?

Anyway, there are several negative aspects to importing unskilled labor.

1. It says, "hey, you Third World scumbags! We Americans are too good to do the crappy work we're hiring you to do." That's a guaranteed way to build resentment among the unskilled. They will look at us as arrogant overlords fully deserving of the mistreatment, including criminal behavior, that they will (continue to) unleash upon us.

2. Another is that it drives down wages for everyone at the low end of the scale, hurting native Americans (and I'm not talking about Indians). It hurts not only unskilled adults, but also unskilled teenagers.

3. It expands the two-tiered system that's already rapidly growing. The American Dream has always been that the kids will do better than their parents. The growth of a low-skilled/unskilled subclass that has no hope of imroving their lot is un-American.

4. The growth of a permanent Mestizo underclass has brought with it their alien culture and language. Some Americans can't get entry-level jobs--because they can't speak Spanish.

We are foolish indeed to forget Teddy Roosevelt's wise words: "Never under any condition should this nation look at an immigrant as primarily a labor unit."

Posted by: Squidley on June 11, 2007 01:48 AM

haha,

Drugs get through with the collusion of the Mexican authorities. That's another aspect of their culture I don't want here: bribery and the corruption it spreads.

Posted by: Squidley on June 11, 2007 01:50 AM

I agree with dudley on this, but unfortunately it's already here. So what do we do about it?

Posted by: Haha on June 11, 2007 01:59 AM

Greg,

I know what you mean. It can be hard to give up our old beliefs. I struggled with mine before I could accept that what made this country great was its WASP culture, history--and majority. It's hard to go against the flow, especially when everyone is chanting liberal mantras about "diversity" and "immigration."

The worst part is that We The People were never asked if we wanted to give up the country we had for the one we have now. Teddy Kennedy and the other traitorous authors of the 1965 Immigration Reform Act, the law that changed our immigration laws and set this calamatous change in motion, flat-out lied to us about the impact of the bill. They said it wouldn't change the racial make-up of this country. Given his horrendous track record, should we trust Teddy Kennedy with any immigration law?

In any case, good luck. It can be painful to realize that the reigning ideology is wrong--and even more so when we realize how much we've bought into it.

Posted by: Squidley on June 11, 2007 02:02 AM

Haha,

You seem to be serious, so I'll provisionally treat you seriously. If you go back to your old ways, though, all bets are off.

Dudley1 didn't post on this thread, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. However, I'm guessing it's Mexican culture and its attendant corruption.

What we do about it is simple:

1. Build a fence along the entire US-Mexico border. A serious fence, like Israel has. This keeps most of them out.

2. Enforce our existing immigration laws. This gets the illegals out; it also has the benefit of causing self-deportation.

3. Punish employers of illegal aliens. If no one will hire them, they won't come, and the ones here will leave.

4. Change the tax code so that wages can only be deducted for employees who can be shown to be legal. Remove the incentive to hire illegal aliens by making it prohibitively expensive to hire them. No jobs, and they leave--or won't come in the first place.

4. Punish "safe haven" municipalities. Cut off all their Federal funding.

5. Impose a surcharge--50 to 90%--on all foreign remittances made by those who cannot prove legal status in the US. Illegal aliens send billions back home; this would remove much of their financial motivation for being here.

6. Change the misinterpretation of the 14th amendment so that "birthright" citizenship is ended.

7. Implement the Squidley Plan for illegal aliens: Detain, Document, Deport. Detain illegals when caught. Keep them in custody until deportation. Document them with photographs, fingerprints, and DNA testing. Then deport them: send them back to their countries of origin. If found in the US illegally again, they are subject to a minimum of a 5-year Federal prison sentence. The second offense gets twenty years. It won't cost us any more than it already does to incarcerate them, and it'll give them incentive to stay out once deported.

These are a few ideas. There are many others. The main thing is that we take our country back from the illegal aliens who are invading us, and from the liberal elites who aid and abet their presence.

Squidley -

I always believed that it was ALL the different cultures that make this the greatest nation on earth. And I thought I had good reason. Most of my immediate family is from Ireland. My wife and her family came here from Poland. Not only are they citizens, but they're Americans, too. Every one of them will go back to Ireland/Poland before they ask for a handout.

Where you hit the mark dead-on is the part about
immigrants coming from the wrong parts of the world. That statement is what made me take a look at the situation. I still think that if folks want to come to the USA to better their lives and the lives of their children, then come on over. But do it the right way.

On the other hand, I'm so hell-bent against illegal immigration because I'm tired of going past the 3 free hospitals on my way to work and seeing people who don't belong here getting free medical treatment, while I have to pay 6 bucks for an aspirin.

I'm tired of illegals driving in Chicago, getting into accidents, and then taking off.

I had enough of food coupons and debit cards, paid for with my tax dollars, being given to folks who are here illegally, while we have veterans sitting on the street with old Dunkin Donuts cups full of change sitting in front of them.

If they don't stop selling us out in Washington, then I'm going to turn into a real racist asshole. But then again, since I'm white and work my ass off to feed my kids, I'm not allowed to be

Posted by: Greg on June 11, 2007 02:13 PM

Squidley,
What I mean by the no skills immigrants is that they have a chance when they come here that they would never have ANYWHERE else in the world. We both know that and we both know why. Those people start in the low end jobs, but unlike their native born counterparts, they rarely stay there. I know of quite a few people who arrived here with nothing including skills, and built a life to be proud of. The ones who are motivated will succeed and will be a blessing to this country because they will asimilate. They will learn the language. they will develop skills. they will work harder, longer and take more crap because they are on a quest to prove that they are worthy of the dream that made America. Those are the ones I want to come, and whether they come from Ireland, Italy, Mexico, India, or whereever, they are what it takes to keep this nation storong in spite of the hard work that traitor, swimmer et;al do to undermine. It will be hard to undo the damage they have done to our culture. I grew up in a region without mexican immigrants. I grew up doing those jobs.

Posted by: Jeremy on June 11, 2007 08:06 PM

Prosper,

#3 isn't enough by itself, because illegal aliens can come here for social welfare benefits, too. Worse yet, pregnant women (from many countries, including Mexico and South Korea) come and drop their kids just to get a passport for said offspring. (I simply cannot fathom the logic that says we should give citizenship to the child of someone whose US address is a hotel--or doesn't have a US address at all.)

We need to be proactive to do the following:

Stop illegal aliens from coming;
Remove illegal aliens already here;
Make illegal aliens self-deport; and
Eliminate incentives for being illegal.

#3 only removes incentives, and while it is important, it needs to be part of a master plan to reduce the number of hostile alien invaders.

Speaking of hostile alien invaders, how do you like your new president's plan to reduce the number of Moslems in France?

Posted by: Squidley on June 11, 2007 08:41 PM

Greg,

I'm sure you already know this, but there's a difference between racism--the belief that one race is inherently superior/inferior to all others--and acknowledging that race exists. What I've been saying all along is that races exist, race has real-life effects, and that the modern liberal race-denying ideology is wrong. I also flat-out reject racism, and say that pointing out differences is not the same as saying "inherently better/worse." We are all God's children, after all.

We also have to acknowledge that people naturally gather with people most like themselves, which is why whites tend to live in white neighborhoods, blacks tend to live in black neighborhoods, etc. It's human nature, and to deny it is to deny reality.

Furthermore, we have to remember that the situation building in the US--one of racial diversity--is unnatural. It does not normally occur, and when it does, is most often the result of war or invasion. Multiracial societies inevitably have conflicts, sometimes bloody, between the races. The same is true of multicultural societies (just look at the continued problem of Quebec--same race, but different language and culture).

It is incontrovertible that the US had less crime and was a more genteel society in 1960 than it is now. We didn't get to this place overnight, and we won't get back to a safer, kinder society overnight either. However, in order to get back, we have to make efforts, and the first one is to stop making the problem worse. The problem is virtually unlimited non-white immigration. It doesn't make you a racist to say that building sizable non-white minorities in the middle of a white country will lead to problems, not least because that is the fact of what is happeningin modern America.

So, let's put a moratorium on immigration. Let's close the doors most of the way. Let's give legal immigrants a chance to assimilate, and let's get rid of the illegal aliens who are harming us in so many ways. In its current state, immigration is not benefitting us--so let's change how it's done until it does benefit us.

Posted by: Squidley on June 11, 2007 08:54 PM

Squidley, you stated that people naturally tend to gather around people like themselves. Then please explain to me why Hispanics have overtaken my small town? I'll tell you why. They came here to make money to send back to Mexico. Not to mention the welfare and food stamps that they receive. And as a bonus they don't even have to learn the english language. Priceless.

Still, you hit the nail on the head: illegal aliens come because they can make a better living here than in their corrupt Third-World dump of a country. Part of why this is due to NAFTA. NAFTA put their Third-World businesses, including agriculture, in direct competition with ours. Mexicans can't compete, businesses fold, and the unemployed become economic "refugees."

Free trade has its merits, but I believe that nationhood and ensuring a decent standard of living for your citizens (partly by maintaining quality manufacturing jobs) are more important than being able to buy cheap, often shoddy merchandise from China, India, Paksitan, Bangladesh, and other developing nations.

Greg,

The "diversity is our strength" mantra is a liberal brainwashing slogan. The truth of the matter is that diversity is harmful, because it tears away at the fabric of our unity.

What made earlier waves of immigration work was that immigrants dissolved their bonds with their home countries and strove to become Americans. For example, my immigrant grandfather didn't use his native tongue in America; he was proud of his English ability and read English-language literature extensively. My immigrant wife doesn't want to live in her home country anymore (even though I speak the language extremely well), and has applied for citizenship. This is as it should be.

Now, however, we have all kinds of hyphenated-Americans. As the saying goes, hyphenated-American is un-American. Yes, it's OK for families to hold on to family traditions, like ethnic food, but American traditions, like celebrating Thanksgiving and Independence Day, are more important.

Worse than the hyphenated-Americans are the invaders, people who not only don't want to become like us, but want us to become like them. The two worst groups are the Mexicans and the Moslems. (What is it with these people, anyway? They've always been a pain in our backsides, as demonstrated by the opening line of the Marines' Hymn: "From the halls of Montezuma/to the shores of Tripoli.") We should not allow these hostile aliens into our country.

The only immigrants we should allow are ones that meet certain requirements and will be of benefit to us. Once upon a time, immigrants had to be able to work, unlikely to become a public burden, unlikely to become criminal, and healthy. Now we have exotic-disease bearing Mexicans sponging off our welfare system. Many of them not only break our immigration laws but also drive drunk, kill with their cars, deal drugs, molest children, rape, and murder. As for Moslems, their socio-political movement masquerading as a religion is utterly incompatible with our traditions, our laws, and our culture. They have no place in the West.

Greg, I share your frustration. But despite what the liberals say, it's not "racist" to be proud of who you are. It's not racist to acknowledge that we are white. It's not racist to point out the extraordinary achievements of whites throughout history. Most of all, it's not racist to resent having your country taken away from you by hostile minorities who are after what's best for their group and not what's best for America.

Squidley -

Easy, buddy. This man thought diversity was a strength long before it became hip to be liberal.

And again, I agree with you. The same applies to my family and my wife and her family; they're Americans first. My wife's family holds themselves to an incredibly high standard to learn English, and I take my hat of to them for that.

Greg,

Huh? I'm not sure we're on the same page here.

I'm saying that diversity is harmful, that it is not beneficial, that it works against us. I'm saying that America was a stronger nation in the 1950s, when most people were American first and foremost, and when the country was about 90% white. People had a much stronger notion of what it meant to be American. Yes, we had minorities, the largest group being blacks. But black communities held themselves to WASP standards.

Now that we "honor diversity,™"* we are losing our identity as Westerners and Americans. Instead of teaching our children about the glories of ancient Greece and Rome, they learn about insignificant tribes around the world who had zero impact on our development. Instead of getting a firm grounding in European and American history, they waste time learning about Mayans and Aztecs and Bantus and others who also had no impact whatsoever on US or world history (which is not an argument against learning world history; rather, what I'm saying is that world history should not be taught at the expense of much more relevant content).

Now that we whites have abdicated our responsibility to set the standards for the country, minorities have moved in--quite naturally; nature abhors a vacuum. However, unlike whites, who have historically acted in the best interests of their communities and the nation, the modern minority mindset is "how do we expand our power?"--regardless of the consequences for the nation as a whole. As a minority's percentage of the population grows, their demands--and ability to make those demands get realized--grow. These demands are often at odds with what is best for the nation. Two examples: Affirmative Action (blacks) and non-enforcement of immigration laws ("Hispanics"**).

Diversity is bad because it weakens us, divides us, and may ultimately be the root of our destruction.

*One of the stupidest bumper stickers I've ever seen says "Honor diversity/Stop hate crimes." A bumper sticker is going to stop "hate" crimes? GMAFB!

**How can an ethnic group be defined by language?

Wow.

OK. My idea of diversity is the different cultures and nationalities and races who come here and strive to be good Americans, it is the mingling of the different cultures that help make this the best country in the world. NOT this forced integration bullshit that is shoved down our throats every day.

Maybe I'm reading you wrong, but it looks like you think I'm in favor of this 'Cultural Awareness' crap. If not, I apologize. If so, you've got me pegged so wrong.

You stated that back in the day that Blacks held themselves to WASP standards. That's more in line with my opinion. Not just blacks, but everyone.

Making me and my wife both work to afford our house, then giving a house up the block away for $80 a month to a black family in order to promote "diversity" is NOT going to make happy.

Making me attend a seminar at work on culture awareness, despite the fact that I have much more important stuff to do, therefore making me have to stay late to do it, is NOT going to make me too eager to promote it. If me and a minority are both equally qualified for a promotion, well, guess who loses?

My 'hip to be liberal' line was meant to say that the liberal views on diversity are a far cry from my own...and in the last 10 years, Chicago has become a San Francisco wanna-be. You know, it's 'cool' to hang out at Starbucks, protest something, and be compassionate at everyone else's expense.

My opinion won't change on legal immigration; my role models have set too good of a standard. I hope nobody considers me on the left because of it.

Greg,

I guess we're more in line with each other than I thought. I hope I didn't upset or offend you, and I'm sorry if I did.

My point about diversity is that we are strong not because our ancestors came from here, there, and everywhere. We're strong because once they got here, they became Americans.

A related point is about Teddy Kennedy's attempt to destroy America called the 1965 Immigration Reform Act. Kennedy, being Irish, seems to have inherted his ethnic group's intense dislike of the English. Until the great waves of European immigration at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, most Americans were of English stock (along with a good dose of Scots). What better way to "get back" at the English than to destroy their "stranglehold" majority? How better to do that than to turn immigration law on its head and virtually exclude white immigration and promote the immigration of Asians, blacks, "Hispanics," and everyone else who isn't like us?

(BTW, the 1965 Immigration Reform Act stopped the preference for immigration from Europe and opened it up to the world.)

As for legal immigration, you know my views. I'm flattered that you think highly enough of my position to share it. May I suggest that you attribute it to "something you read on the Internet"? I realize that my moniker is, uh, unconventional, but I know for a fact that if I attached my name to my opinions, my career in academia would be over (it happened to a friend of mine).

Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding. Let's move forward together on this.
