AOTW 7-27-2007

The Swimmer beat this guy out last week, but I knew this guy would still be an asshole this week. Who is it?

vick1.jpg

Got it from Darrell. And this from Melissa.

vick2.jpg

Here in Atlanta, it's all Vick, all the time. We even have demonstrations at the Falcons' training camp. Those booger eatin' moh-rons from PETA have shown up. Fortunately, no one from Breasts not Bombs are here. Of course, there are multiple Vick stories and columns every day in the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation.

What is it with this dude? He cannot stay out of trouble. Of course part of it is the people he hangs out with. He says that he grew up with these guys and he's not gonna quit hanging out with them. So what if one of these guys stole a Rolex watch while traveling with Vick. Hey! It could happen to anyone.

And let's not forget the water bottle incident.

A few years back, he was sued by a girlfriend who claimed he gave her genital herpes. He got himself tested and used the name Ron Mexico. Anyway, the case was settled out of court and there is a confidentiality agreement so we don't know how much he had to pay the girl.

Now we have the dogfighting allegations. Once again, it's his friends or family doing it and he knows nothing about it or so he says. Maybe if this would have been the first time he fucked up it wouldn't be so bad, but we see a pattern here.

Michael Vick is a multimillionaire. He's a superstar. He's also an asshole. I predict that when Michael Vick is 45 he'll be broke. Some black athletes have successfully left their thug roots behind. Michael Vick is not one of them. In his case you can take the dude out of the ghetto but you cannot take the ghetto out of the dude. He has been given numerous chances and he still continues to fuck up.

Congrats Michael. I think this time you have really bit the big one. It's gonna be hard to get a Superbowl ring when you're serving time for dogfighting. But cheer up! You do get the AOTW award. Here it is.

In ten years Mike will be living under an overpass on I-95 somewhere keeping warm hugging a friendly pit bull. His buddies will all be in jail or dead. Hopefully dead.

This guy is certification for reason # 277397134 why I NEVER watch any professional sports except the 4 majors in golf.

He is the embodiment of Mr. Entitlement: I am hot shit, man. If it don't start with 8 figures, get it outta my face.

He is the epitome of Stupid Jock: If I can't kick it, throw it, catch it, or hit it with a stick, fuck it.

He is the equivalent of Hollywood Bimbos: Who? ME?! You're arresting ME!!??? Don't you know who I am??

And he's not a particularly good quarterback for the simple reason that the concept of "team" is anathema to his self image.

Posted by: eros total on July 27, 2007 04:13 PM

Looking at his history you would have thought he played for Switzer and the Sooners...

Posted by: jerry on July 27, 2007 04:24 PM

Not sure I agree with those blanket statements about athletes eros. I have friends who have played baseball, football, and golf at top levels. great people. humble and hard working.

No argument about Vick though. As a dog lover this makes my blood boil. I just think you can be stupid and a piece of shit in a lot of different occupations. Its just that he has chosen an occupation where the public crucifiction is very long and very painful. His "peep" the bus driver can keep his gig while going to the dog fights. no one will Know or care.

Thats just the way it is. Congratulations on the award Vick. say hi to marcus under that I95 bridge.

Posted by: patrick on July 27, 2007 04:27 PM

Patrick: you're right, of course. Hey, years ago I could recite standings, pitchers' won/loss records, ribbies, touchdown passes, touchdown catches, interceptions, rebounds/assists/points per game, injuries, trades, and all that stuff.

Just got tired of seein multimillionaires bitchin about salary negotiations and complete disintegration of team or city loyalty along with the inevitable "I'm better than you" attitude based on nothing more than an accident of genetics. Steroids just killed it all for me. When guys' HEADS start to get bigger along with their biceps and quads, they just ain't human no more, so how the hell could I identify with 'em?

Anyway, it's an ill wind that blows nobody good, right? So here's a little snippet that'll restore your faith in the intrinsic goodness in mankind: just when you thought volunteerism was a thing of the past in this country, O. J. Simpson up and offers to help Michael Vick search for the real dog-killers.

Posted by: eros total on July 27, 2007 04:44 PM

eros, I'm slowly sliding over to your side. Used to be a stat fan like you in every sport but hockey. Now, I still enjoy the Broncos but that's about it as far as the biggies. I play a lot of tennis so Iove to watch the pros, they're amazing.

The spoiled ones ruin it for every one and sadly I'm seeing more and more of that in the NFL. Cripes, look at Cincinnati. Shanahan doesn't take any crap from these players, they fuck up, they're gone. One of our wideouts got into a fist fight with a neighbor in the off season and had to take a lie detector test to stay on the team.

What Vick has done is disgusting. How could he not be ashamed? WTF was he thinking?

Sport`s the vanishing pastime.......

When I grew up ,all major sports had a loyal following of fans of various ages.Take Baseball for example, We listened to ball games every night, we could recite the starting lineups, stats, upcoming players from the minor leagues, name all the teams, their coachs. There were tours to the various stadiums from the surrounding areas for the respective teams, the games were cheap.

To go to Cleveland by train from Erie Pa (200 miles roundtrip) for a doubleheader was $13.95 & rose to the princely sum of $18.95 after several years. This included transportation & the games tickets + pop to drink on the train if you were a kid & draft beer if you were an adult. Players grew up in the farm systems, starters for the most part spent their entire careers with one team. The players met with the fans during the pre-game warm ups & batting practice & signed autographs willingly , the kids worshipped individual players & religiously followed the team fortunes.

Then came owner greed, team moves , player`s unions, the demise of fan appreciation, the stratospheric rise in salaries, ticket prices, the end of team spirit & loyalty. The season went from 154 games to 162, more teams were added, talent diluted, instead of league champions going to the world series...playoffs were established to fleece more money from the fans & prices kept rising. Today Baseball is an empty shell of what once was, a travesty, a joke. It was once Americas pastime, I think flower shows now pull in more fans.

Look at all the other major(?) sports, the same things have happened or are underway. Owners are greedy but so are the players, it is a big I,I,I,I all for me self-worship, screw the team , screw the fans attitude from both sides of the equation.

Professional Sports, its owners, its players.....You can have them , who needs this Bullshit. If you want to place Michael Vick in the line of self-centered egotistical assholes who are ruining professional sports....it is the long line not the short one.

Posted by: dudley1 on July 27, 2007 08:37 PM

I grew up in the same era as you Dudley. Also grew up as an Indians and Browns fan. I'm still addicted to the sports only as a historical aspect of it. I do not want to act like a racist but I guess I am as the sports arena never had as many problems as when the Afro- Americans found a way to get out of the hood but bring the hood with them into sports. Just look around the sports pages and find out how many are getting into big time trouble. Look at colleges and their programs. I am from WVa and have followed the Mountaineers. Look at where they find their players. Most of them come from the inner cities and couldn't pass a GED test for high school. Who can anyone blame?

Vick has shown he is nothing more than a thug.
He's another low-life privileged Negro athlete.

I hope he loses everything.

Gene Hall.....

Oops! It was Bob Lemon the pitcher, Jim
Lemon was a power hitter for the Washington Senators before Bob Allison & Harmon Killabrew. Sorry!
By the way, I got the name Dudley many years ago when I was a Deputy Conservation Officer with the Pa Fish Commission. Back then the agency did not have a radio system so all of the local district officers & the 30 or so deputies bought CB radios for communication during Enforcement activities. My handle was "Dudley Doright" this morphed to Dudley1 when we worked as a team with Dudley2,3,4 & so on. I have had that nickname ever since. I still strike fear in the hearts of poachers everywhere as well as wayward trout or belligerant bass. Sure I do, only in my dreams.

Posted by: dudley1 on July 27, 2007 10:56 PM

Just because they were "dogs" doesn't make them pets, (as in your pet "fluffy"). Dog fighting is a sport like many others, bull fighting south of the border, ect. Yep, they get killed to, and it ain't very humane.

But, since you animal lovers have all come out of the woodwork... please explain where your contempt ends? Animal death for enjoyment? Animal death for profit? Animal death for food? Do we stop trading and disallow travel visas for the running of the bulls? That ain't humane. Or how about cock fighting, (wait... I'm betting you already have decided on that). So, I have a question; Is it just a matter of the cruelty to the animals or is it the fact folks are enjoying it and betting on it? Cause anytime you have 3 or more chickens in the same pen you will have one that ends injured or dead. At times, quite violently. But since no one stood around and bet on it no crime occurred, right?

BTW: Where the hell in the Constitution does it call for dog fighting to be a FEDERAL offense? No doubt this falls under the commerce clause, in your minds eye. Or is this site full of state worshiping big feral government "conservative" Republicans who don't need no stinkin' constitution?

"It's just a GD piece of paper", GWB.

The crimes committed against Vick by the agents of the feral government are far worse than how individuals choose to treat their livestock. Crimes, that is, if the constitution wasn't being treated like butt-wipe. Although it will be too late, when it's your turn you may feel the same...

Take caution when siding up with PETA. They feel the act of having a pet is animal abuse. Newspaper to the nose, US Marshals at your door. Brilliant bunch of "conservatives" you have surrounded yourself with cripple.

Posted by: trojanman on July 28, 2007 01:26 AM

Trojanman:

Michael Vick has hung a medallion-sized bit of bling around his own neck:

"I am MONUMENTALLY Stupid"

HE hung it, only HE can remove it.

Do you understand?

YOU are doing something quite akin to the Native of Newport News: hanging yourself.

The commenters here can be quite-tiresome sometimes in spouting talking-points rather than thoughts but I'll say this for each and every one of them:

They spout HONESTY!

Yours is but spew.

You'll not last long in exchange.

One lil'-tiny point: Dog-fighting AIN'T the "Federal Offense" ..interstate commerce is the deal.

I'd suggest you READ here a day or two more than you have .... your 'read' on the writings is flawed.

PS: Why are you drinking when your panties are still in the dryer?

Posted by: DanS. on July 28, 2007 03:41 AM

trolljanman

a few points and answers.

1. to this gringo bullfighting and cock fighting are not sports either

2. I draw the line at animals used for food or clothing. where do you draw it? cowboy up.

3. I could give a shit what Peta does. good for them for being on the right side on this one but it makes no differnce to me. I am not married to them.

4. DanS is right about the federal offense......did I just type that?

5. If Vick participated in dog fighting and wagering then he broke laws on the books. If you dont like those laws then get them changed. Until that point, our government needs to enforce them.

6. You are out of your paygrade in here.

Posted by: patrick on July 28, 2007 04:57 PM

Yes Dudley I remember those great guys and don't remember any getting in trouble with the law. If they did it was kept out of the papers. All sports have changed. Although I still watch football I don't care for all the hype. When a player does a dance in the end zone I turn away. It makes me sick to see how they took a great game and made it into an extravaganza. Oh well, life goes on.

Posted by: gene Hall on July 28, 2007 05:54 PM

The main problem I see with dog fighting has nothing to do with cruelty to the animals. They behave like that in Nature, and the strongest dog leads the pack. The problem I have with it is that IDIOTS in our communities somehow think these bred for fighting animals are cute and cuddly. I've got my share of scars from friendly pits and rottenwilders. One moronic asshat last year told me he kept his pits because he wanted to show people what wonderful dogs they were. In the course of our conversation he admitted that police had removed a number of his dogs because they were a threat, including his last three breeding pairs. He also admitted that his current dogs had cornered a neighbor in her yard and terrorized her. Police put them down the next day I might add.
I have yet to have a pit owner who turned out to be even a passable tenant. 90% of them are drug dealers, and the other 10% are morons akin to Vic.
As to the professanal assletes, They are not anything to be proud of. I'll stick to College sports for now, and if they get much worse, I start going to High school games again.

Posted by: Jeremy on July 28, 2007 11:37 PM

I predict that Vick will never play professional football again. No teams hometown would accept him playing for "their" team. Owners would lose to many butts for the stadium seats.

Posted by: Ric on July 29, 2007 10:32 AM

He damn sure wouldn't last in Cleveland with the "Dog Pound."

Posted by: gene Hall on July 29, 2007 12:42 PM

Ric - Players like him used to wind up in Oakland and all Al Davis and the fans were concerned with was winning. But I'm thinking you may be right, especially since one of his "friends" is already talking about cutting a deal in return for testifying. Then Vick might get to star in a real life version of The Longest Yard.

Posted by: Zeb Quinn on July 30, 2007 03:08 PM

I can't believe I'm writing this, but...

DanS is right. Best thing you've ever written, man.

Trolljanman,

Animals have no rights other than the ones we give them. Why? Because they have no souls. That makes it OK to eat them, to wear them, and even to experiment on them. Still, we in the West demand that animals be treated humanely. This is a recent phenomenon; the first anti-cruelty laws were passed in the UK in 1835 (or so).

Regardless, we have our standards. Being opposed to dogfighting and other inhumane acts is not the same as being a card-carrying member of PETA. Vicks, a primitive, failed to uphold them. We rightly hold him, and all his ilk, in contempt.

Why is that so hard to see?

Posted by: Squidley on August 1, 2007 04:23 AM

As for the death of sportsmanship, there are many factors. Regardless, the poster boy for unsportsmanlike conduct is, unsurprisingly, a black man: Cassius Clay (aka Muhammed Ali). This ignorant, illiterate man led the fight against the traditional ideals of sportsmanship: gentlemanly conduct, graciousness, modesty, respect for one's opponent and for the officials, and, most importantly of all, doing your best--not for the glory or the fame or the money, but for the love of the game.

Cassius Clay is an anti-American, anti-white bigot and braggart. He is a vulgar, petty cad. Michael Vicks is his spiritual child.

Posted by: Squidley on August 1, 2007 04:30 AM

Squidley......

I dis-agree with you on Muhammed Ali. I was a convert to his position, at first I hated him with a passion.

As to him changing religion & ultimately his name, I personally do not understand, but by all accounts it changed his personal life around , gone was the wild night life & fast women. In was his legendary respect for his family & generosity for many others.

As to him fighting induction into the Army, he faced the music & fought the battle in court at tremendous expense, loss of his championship & livelihood. He did not run to Canada. He did this all because of his religious belief & ultimately prevailed, picked up his shattered career & re-established himself as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

He earned my respect as a fighter & ultimately as a man by dint of hard work at his profession & genuine compassion & generosity for many not so fortunate in the fight game.Muhammed never lost respect for the officials of the sport, did he have dis-agreements ...hell Yes, but lost respect never.

As to your other points; Ignorant...No,Illiterate.... by some definition perhaps but this has never prevented others more acceptable because they were white from finding main stream acceptance. The myth of the ideals of sportsmenship may apply in the amateurs but when it comes to professional sports , winning is what matters or you do not have a job, many white professional sports figures were far more arrogant, less gracious, not modest or respectful but reached a position of respect because of their sports ability despite being repulsive human beings.

I personally found Muhammed was a generous, kind, respectful & gracious individual outside of the ring to those who responded in kind regardless of ethnic origin. He played to the crowd in order to build the gate involved & probably did more to save the sport of boxing then any other figure.

No Squidley, you are wrong the latent racism you deny is shining through.I do agree with you about Michael Vick.

Posted by: dudley1 on August 1, 2007 07:45 AM

Dudley1,

You may call it racism if you will. I observe that as a group, blacks have a lesser ability to create and maintain a civilization, or to act in a civilized fashion. Cassius Clay and Michael Vick are yet two more examples of this. More examples? All of sub-Saharan Africa (especially Idi Amin and Robert Mugabe), and the black-majority cities in the US (like Detroit, D.C., and New Orleans, the new murder capital of America).

As for sportsmanship, it's possible to be a gracious winner--which Clay never was. Quite the contrary, he was a poor winner, which is even worse than a poor loser.

As for Clay's refusal to serve, yes indeed, it was out of his religious belief--his belief that America is an infidel country. He said, "We don’t take part in Christian wars or wars of any unbelievers." I don't find this admirable; I find it anti-American. Futhermore, his religious belief didn't prevent him from whoring and missing religious services.

No matter what you call him--or he calls himself--Cassius Clay/Mohammad Ali is a reprehensible person.

Posted by: Squidley on August 1, 2007 03:47 PM

One more quote about Clay/Ali:

"Let me make another point about Muhammad Ali:

"He was the first professional athlete to abandon the tradition of good sportsmanship, substituting for it the massive egomania, self-aborption, and self-dramatization that is found in so many athletes today...

"What a contrast with his predecessors, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, and Jack Dempsey. ESPN Classic often shows old boxing matches, going back to the beginning of the 20th century. It is noteworthy to see these and other champions, after bruising battles, warmly shake the boxing mitts of their defeated opponents. They were champions. Ali—who insulted and demeaned the great Joe Louis as an Uncle Tom—was a bum.

"Ali should be remembered as the first major sports figure to begin the disrespect for authority and the self-assertion of the ego—at the expense of the broader interest of his sport—that is so prevalent throughout American life today."

Let's not forget that his "religion" is Nation of Islam, which holds that whites were created 5,000 years ago by a mad scientist.

I find nothing about this "man" worthy of respect, because any positive about him is far, far outweighed by the negative.
