This week's Asshole of the Week is Elvira Arellano. Who dat? I'll tell you. She's an illegal alien who has snuck into the United States not once but twice. She has been holed up in a church in Chicago for the past year. She recently left this "sanctuary" to go protest at a rally in Los Angeles. She was picked up and deported to Tijuana. Now she's all "Boo freaking hoo! Poor me!"
The Mexican Senate is on her side.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — A Mexican Senate committee passed a measure Wednesday urging President Felipe Calderon to send a diplomatic note to the United States protesting the deportation of an illegal migrant who took refuge in a Chicago church for a year.
Just what part of "illegal" do they not understand?
The committee also approved a scholarship to help her 8-year-old U.S.-born son, Saul, who is an American citizen and stayed in the United States.
Whoopdi-freakin'-doo! He'll probably get a free ride to college and the Mexican Senate won't have to pay a thing.
"We cannot remain quiet in view of this injustice and must ask for firm action from our authorities," Mexican Sen. Humberto Zazue said.
Hey Humberto! GFY!
Arellano, who was at the committee's session, said Saul is in Chicago in the care of his godmother and will attend a Sept. 12 rally for immigration reform in Washington. She said she would help organize a rally in Tijuana that same day to demand Mexican authorities do more to protect migrants."For me it is very important that our government take a strong stand to defend all of us who decide to migrate to another country," she said.
There's just one problem. You were here illegally. That means you broke the law, not once, but twice. If you want to migrate to this country you need to follow the rules. You do not have the right to be here illegally.
She's been deported twice. What do ya wanna bet she'll cross the border illegally again?
Anyway, I'm gonna let her and the Mexican Senate share the AOTW Award.
I'll second that.
Some are saying she was targeted by the administration to play up the defeat of the amnesty bill.
Who the hell cares, as long as these A-holes are back across the river.
Posted by: Hammer on August 24, 2007 10:36 PMHer coming out of "sanctuary" in Chicago was precisely so she could be arrested and deported with her son left behind, thereby becoming a martyr and poster girl on behalf of the open borders crowd's talking point about how border enforcement "breaks up families."
Posted by: Zeb Quinn on August 24, 2007 10:59 PMIs there a way to electrify the Rio Grande and Colorado rivers? I know that it would kill some innocent fish, but what the hell.
Posted by: ChuckS on August 24, 2007 11:05 PMMore importantly, is the kids godmother legal? And why the hell do we allow someone to plop a kid in the sand just across the river and make him a citizen? It would seem to me that if your parents aren't citizens, either through birth or naturalization, than you shouldn't be either. If they are legal residents, then you are too, but if they gotta go, so do you.
Posted by: Poppanole on August 24, 2007 11:09 PMShe broke the law more than twice. She was working at O'hare ariport with a stolen social security number.
This don't deport me because my kid is a citizen is a crock-o-crap. Do we let murderers and theives skip jail because they have children. She should be charged with child endangerment for putting her kid into this situation.
Besides if the kid was that important to her why did she leave him here when she was deported. Her son is free to go live with his mother any time he wants.
Posted by: David on August 25, 2007 12:12 AMSo what is Saul gonna major in in college? Mellon picking? Or Roofing and roof removal science?
Posted by: Jeremy on August 25, 2007 01:46 AMHammer,
The more cynical among us are saying that the administration, upset over the failure of its massive amnesty for illegal aliens bill (aka immigration "reform"), is deliberately choosing the most lovable, sympathetic illegal aliens to pick on. They hope that the good-hearted people who don't think very hard will come around to supporting amnesty for illegal aliens.
Poppanole,
It's a misreading of the 14th amendment. There was quite a discussion about it over at View From the Right recently. It started at the first link, then continued here, and finished up here.
Posted by: Squidley on August 25, 2007 02:11 AMMaybe we should put Janet Reno back in charge of deportation? She got the job done? *evil giggles*
Posted by: LisaKay on August 25, 2007 06:41 AMI don't know whether to laugh or cry after reading this.
Posted by: patrick on August 25, 2007 07:18 AMM Malkin calls them "criminal aliens". And a side note, Karen Jepp, who came here from Canada to have her litter, took them home with her.
Posted by: Daryl on August 25, 2007 07:29 AM"Just what part of "illegal" do they not understand?"
None of it. That's the problem. They do not come from a society based and founded on law as ours is, hence they don't understand it. It's like asking "what part of civility and assimilation do the Mooselimbs not understand?" Same answer. NONE.

I agree wholeheartedly with the Meese Eastman interpretation of the 14th ammendment.
We need a constitutional ammendment though makin it clear that all ammendments and all laws must be interpreted in the language understood by common readership and not haggled iunterpretation.
We need it because a good lawyer can give you an argument on the meaning of citizenship, and a bad lawyer can give you an argument on what "is" is.
The child should not be a citizen, nor should any other child of a trespasser. The 14th ammendment has been perverted and twisted to the point where the original intention has been forgotten. Not to worry, he probably can't pay tuition with pesos anyway.

Oh this story just pisses me off. Do you remember the good old days when illegal aliens actually hid from authorities? This lady was poking a finger in the eye of the government. I'm so glad she got deported. But you know what really pisses me off? She was here 10 years...and she still can't speak English!
She was here 10 years...and she still can't speak English!
I would place a major wager that she can speak English, just doesn't. I mean, why should she? Thanks to the liberal assholes in this country, these wetbacks get the red carpet treatment and we have to bend to their every whim. Personally, I'm fucking sick of it!
Posted by: CharlieDelta on August 26, 2007 01:11 AMI don't see how the Mexican Senate (shit, I didn't know they had one) can have any authority what so ever other than "pass a measure to urge the MP to send a note" in changing laws in this country. Why does she believe that Mexico should take a strong stand to defend their people fleeing to another country? I just don't fucking get it. The scholarship better be for a Mexican college. Do they have one?
Posted by: starboard on August 26, 2007 10:45 AMI was watching a show on WW1 the other day. common misconception is that the sinking of the Lusitania is what triggered the US involvement. It wasnt (but it did piss us off). It was a coded telegram sent 2 years later from the Kaiser to the german consulate in Mexico. Urging him to convince the mexicans to attack texas, NM, and Arizona.........well its been over 80 years but I think they've done it. Hope the mexican senate quits pussyfooting and just goes ahead and declares full out war on us.
