So Vick found Jesus. Everytime I hear about a scumbag (athlete, policitian, Hollywood celebrity, or any other douchbag...) finding Jesus and turning his life over to God, I think of the Iris Dement song (actually written by Harlan Howard-Bobby Braddock) God May Forgive You (But I Won't). The chorus goes like this:
cause God may forgive you, but I won't
Yes, Jesus loves you, but I don't
They don't have to live with you and neither do I
You say that you're born again, well so am I
God may forgive you, but I won't
and I won't even try
They have Iris Dement singing Our Town on YouTube, but not this song or I would have embedded it.
Being an atheist, I don't think too much about the I found Jesus schtick. Heh! Heh! Heh! Maybe My Give a Damn's Busted.
Some professor of women's studies wrote an op-ed in the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation (no link since those types of op-eds are not on their web site.) that was full of moral equivalence bullshit like if you eat meat you're just as bad as Michael Vick.
WTF is "women's studies" and exactly what good does a degree in "women's studies" do a person? Does it enable one to get a job as a professional feminist?

No, it enables you to get a job as a Professional Twat.
Posted by: Elisson on August 29, 2007 03:31 PMA rose by any other name... smells a hell of a lot better than a feminist.
Posted by: Gus Bailey on August 29, 2007 04:23 PMHeck, I took a womens study thing just a couple of weeks ago.
Did you know that you can still get a couch dance for $20.00? They don't serve booze anymore. The womenz I was studying looked better in the old days when you could get a CC7 or three before class started.
A Chinaman that eats dog is within the law in the U.S., as long as it is his dog and he doesn't torture it, or gamble on how it tastes.
Another example: Fighting chickens is illegal, eating chicken is not illegal. Oh yeah and there is also the gambling and racketeering part.
I'm sure anybody could find something wrong with anybody else's "morals" for whatever that is worth.
A good friend of mine graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in "American Studies".
One day, I make a joke to her that (a political setup in our flying club) is about as effective as the Articles of Confederation.
She looks at me blankly.
I say "The Articles of Confederation?"
She says "What are those?"
"Before the Constitution, there were the.. Articles of.. Confederation....", I say into her blank look. "Didn't you get a degree in American Studies"?
"Well, yeah, but we didn't study like... history or anything, we just wrote articles and essays."
Posted by: Unix-Jedi on August 29, 2007 09:29 PMRoy,
That is the stupidest comment I've ever seen you make. You're spouting unbridled moral relativism, a favorite of liberals and leftists everywhere. It's their favorite because it helps destroy the legitimacy of Western culture and its norms--including our moral standards.
Kindly don't add to their successes.
Posted by: Squidley on August 30, 2007 12:02 AMRead or watch what Arthur Blank had to say about "Jesus" and Vick on Monday across town.
In essence, confessing one's new-found Faith in salvation means NOTHING if one thinks that 'Accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Personal Savior' means that Jesus is now in control and YOU don't have to worry about anything or any choice from that point on.
Nope.
Salvation offers one a new day; a new set of choices; an opportunity for a one-on-one debriefing at the end of the day; and a CERTAINTY that the choices of the day have gone on record in the Great Database in the Sky.
Whether one subscribes to this or not, it certainly doesn't give one license to act as if anything-done is auto-magically 'made all right'!
In that light, 'grace' is but a crap-shoot.
Posted by: DanS. on August 30, 2007 12:09 AMI amend myself!
"In that light,'grace' is but a crap-shoot."
SHOULD have read:
"In that light, 'grace' IS a crap-shoot.
God, Guns, Grace & Good-times! Synonyms all!"
I used to be involved in women's study and devoted much time and money to the effort. I was interested mostly in the anatomy portions of that field of study. I learned alot about the inner workings of women. It was at times very draining both pyhsically and mentaly, and I found that to really get a good feel of what a women was really like I had to do much probing and found that some women required much more probing than others. To the point that I didnt feel I had the tools needed to fully meet thier needs. The greatest challenge was keeping myself emotionally detached from my work and my subjects .
I was forced to give up my reasearch when I married and now I spend most of my time fishing .
Women's Studies, like Black Studies, Queer Studies, and most every other new liberal arts major of the past couple of decades, has nothing to do with education and everything to do with indoctrination into a certain type of leftist, victimized, anti-Western civilization dogma.
Unlike a traditional liberal arts degree (one of the few uses of the word liberal that's actually positive), these degrees do not prepare the bearer for life as a responsible citizen of our society. Rather, they prepare people to be destroyers of it. Their main use seems to be as a way to keep certain otherwise useless professors employed, and to eventually replace them, as people with these ridiculous degrees often go on to get M.A.s and Ph.D.s in those same fields.
Posted by: Squidley on August 30, 2007 10:14 AMMan did you hit the nail on the head Squidley
Our education system has produced millions of people with a degree who are not qualified to count change in a convienience store. I told the story awhile back of a girl I know who majored in sign language and then decided she didnt like being around deaf people this after her family sacrificed for years to pay for her education. After four years of very expensive school she works for minimum wage . And when my 12 year old wanted a demonstration of signing she couldnt sign her own name . She said they mostly concentrated on the social aspects of signing WTF
Darrell G:
I LOVED your comment about women's study!
WELL Done!
Posted by: Dan S. on August 30, 2007 11:15 PMSorry you guy's feel so bad about 'Professors';
I've 'professed' coming up on 10,000 students over my 37 years and the world is a better place for it.
The real good ones (like me)ignore the 'noise', close the classroom door and get to know the cares, concerns and learning-style of each & every student.
THEN we teach.

No one was ragging on professors. We were ragging on meaningless academic degrees.
Incidentally, I have a Ph.D. and am a professor. Most of my colleagues are dedicated professionals who care about the education of their students, but I know more than a few who care more about their pet theory than reality, or about promoting their socialistic, anti-American agenda than any objective truth.
Posted by: Squidley on August 31, 2007 01:52 AMSquidley....
In a day & age where one must possess a degree in order to even be considered for the position of towel boy in the locker room at the WMCA ....is it any wonder meaningless "academic" degrees have proliferated?
I do agree with you the principle purpose is to provide employment for leftwing socialist idiots who have graduated into the real world unprepared to cope with reality & are too qualified for welfare. Some however do advance within the democratic party as campaign managers or into the Lame Stream Media as News commentators.
