regarding your point #1. It is the principal, as applied here, or PROGRESSIVE taxes. taxes are a neccesary part of government, but my feeling is that we have way too much as it is. Just because I agree with taxes does not mean I agree with unlimited taxes.

In my voting lifetime I've voted for a former actor/governor (reagan) career government worker (Bush 1), a self made billionaire (perot), a WW2 hero (Dole), a baseball team owner/governor (bush 2).This time it looks like either a Mormon or another former actor.
