They're proposing short term "legislative climate fixes". What does that mean exactly?

Posted by: haha on October 26, 2007 01:47 AM

I just printed all 21 pages of it and will try to read it over the next couple of days. However, it will probably be the same science that we've all seen and read about that proves how "unscientific" all of Gore's comments have been. Folks, we live in a world of science and facts, not a utopian "emotional" world like the libs would have us believe. We better start hammering that into our young uns or we are all in a heap of hurt.

And this should surprise any of us HOW ? C'mon, folks, we're talkin' Algore here...He who invented thuh In-Turr-Net...Couldn't even carry his, & my home state of Tennessee, 'cause WE knew what a feckin' FRAUD he is...He really isn't even from Tn, BTW..His daddy was a senator, & l'il Algore grew up in D.C...."The Senator from St. Albans", as he was derisively referred to. He "summered" here in TN, but Algore is really a Beltway Boy thru & thru.-Sandy G.

I am ashamed to be Swedish...
We visited Sweden this summer and saw a display on Why Nobel started his "Prize"..it was because of an obituary for HIS brother that had died with all of his (Alfred's) information...he was so ashamed of this information (printed in error)all true, that he had to start his Nobel Prize, so people would think good of him, rather then all the deaths from his TNT
Now...what will Gore do, now that we know that HIS INFORMATION, printed in earnest, mostly un-true, is out there...
Nobel started a wonderful prize to honor, honorable people..
Gore must give it back!!!!!!
and Hollywood should give him another Oscar (Swedish name by coincidence) for Gore's best acting performence in his Shockumentary.

Algore was so sorry, triflin', & worthless he didn't even carry his home COUNTY, much less Tennessee...

Isn't it true that Gore has no scientific background and flunked divinity school? The left wing loonies have found them a patsy who is not ashamed to espouse their political beliefs. I do think that this whole environtmental bullsh..is all political and an excuse to break the US and weaken us to the point that we cannot defend ourselves. Why the left despises this country so much defies imagination.

Posted by: gene on October 26, 2007 10:38 AM

Patrick, I didn't even see Al Gore's movie.
But we both must be paranoid :
You believe Nobel Institute is infiltrated by evil lefties promoting the fall of the american empire, and I believe that the Science and Public Policy Institute quoted by Denny is financely supported by the Western Fuels Association.

Posted by: Prosper on October 26, 2007 10:57 AM

% energy production of oil vs. coal, 25.4 vs. 1.16. (US 2nd in world to China in 2004.) Still think that monograph is financed by the Western Fuels Association Prosper?

BTW, I watched "Flyboys" the other night Prosper. Hell of a movie, and great characters, especially the French capitan (same guy that played Rodin?) The scene where they landed in No Man's Land and then made it to the French trenches was awesome.

Prosper

First I do not think that America HAS an empire. If we did France would be part of it...so would Panama and the Phillipines to name a couple others. Second, I had hope for Nobel committee after Yunus got it last year. a man truly fostering peace by creating wealth. I do think they are leftist, and I do think they are pussies.

Posted by: patrick on October 26, 2007 01:33 PM

Prosper......

We do not think the Nobel institute is infested with evil lefties but they do have an Anti American agenda

1. Algore ....BS artist , noted liar & faker of Global warming data. Dumber then a box of rocks
2. Jimmy Carter......worst president of the last Century. Current leading collaborator with Muslim terrorists
3. Kofi Annon.....Thief & Extortionist & Anti American took money from Saddam Huessien
4. Yassir Arafat .......Terrorist & Anti American, also allied with Al Queda
Need I say more??

One thing about Algore .....He never let the truth get in the way of a good story, his political agenda or a lie either.

Posted by: dudley1 on October 26, 2007 01:37 PM

Hey guys go here and here for a good laugh while we await Prosper's response. Prosper you will like them because they're French.

Posted by: KentuckyJoe on October 26, 2007 02:35 PM

Yes, Nobel created the fund because the use of his creation, TNT, caused the death of so many. At least he had the decency to acknowledge it, and to try to make something positive out of it.

What do you suppose is the ripple effect from Al Gore's "contribution" to world peace? How many economies will be damaged and how many lives ruined because of policies based on his theories? Let's hope he's not as influential as Rachel Carson. I don't know what the figures are on deaths due to malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases - deaths the use of DDT could have prevented - but I'm sure they are alarming. However, I would bet that neither Carson nor Gore ever lost sleep over the sequelae of their actions. A little humility and remorse are in order, but that ain't gonna happen! Instead he has a shiny prize to reinforce his belief in the morality of his mission.

Good find GOC...
I ahve been sitting the global warming debate out until someone said the fires we are experiencing here in Cali. are caused by it.
I had to agree with them because the Part of the Globe I was standing on, got Really Warm when the fire got close.....

Well I see you have one of those libtards commenting here too... I think they are like cockroaches, turn up wattage on the light bulbs and they will scurry away....

Posted by: Robert on October 26, 2007 06:55 PM

Uhh Peggy, you realize that a lot more children would have been born with birth defects from DDT than would be saved from the few malaria-carrying mosquitos killed. Plus, tens of thousands of birds, fish, and small mammals would have been killed, throwing off whole ecosystems. Cropdusting it over fields would effectively distribute it to whole populations as well, a plot I seem to recall hearing that terrorists were interested in.

When a government makes laws regarding energy policies, they don't just shut down businesses and ruin economies. Look at Germany. They've got to get 20% of their energy from renewable sources by 2020, and are going to hit that goal and then some. Solar panel sales have skyrocketed, tens of thousands of people are putting them up on their private property (and making hard money from it), and a number of private businesses dealing just with gathering solar and wind energy have sprung up.

The real losers here are the coal and oil companies. They dominated the scene for a while, but now progress is threatening them. They'll have to go the same path as the Pony Express, rairload comapnies, and typewriter companies. Sucks, yeah, but that's progress, and no redundant company should be protected for no reason other than it's big.

It's happening here as well, despite the lack of laws. With solar energy the price of electricity drops and small businesses can lower the budget. When a door closes a window opens.

Actually ty guy, the Swedish people have nothing to do with the Peace prize.

http://nobelpeaceprize.org/

It's them durn Norwegians...

Posted by: DaveH on October 27, 2007 12:05 AM

When a door closes, a window opens ... but it's still a whole lot easier to go in and out through the door.

If oil weren't a cheap enough and efficient enough resource, we'd already be using something else. The closest thing we have to an operable extra door is nuclear power. Solar and wind energy are nice supplements, but I don't see a lot of future in wind farms. Aesthetics, environmental impact, and energy return are just some of the problems. But just think how much a wind farm located near Ted Kennedy could have produced.

According to the World Health Organization, malaria kills millions of people annually. So it isn't a nonissue. Again, DDT is the best solution some third-world countries have to address a pressing problem. Is it fair to ask these nations to patiently wait for less expensive, less toxic methods to be developed? Also, according to the CDC, pregnant women are more susceptible to the disease. Prenatal exposure can cause low birth weight or death of a fetus. Is it better to die of a disease or of chemical exposure? In an impoverished and uncontrolled environment, how do you pinpoint the cause of a stillbirth or congenital anomaly? Maybe the people who are affected should be allowed to weigh the risks and make the decision.

"With solar energy the price of electricity drops and small businesses can lower the budget."

I'd like to see a study that proves this statement true. Look folks, there's not question we need alternate sources of energy. Not do away with what we have now, just add others. Trust me, with the fairly deep pockets of the oil companies (sarcasm off now) if there were truly more economical ways of providing energy, they would have come up with it by now. Remember, anyone that patents the future technology will be receiving some significant money when these products are marketed. I feel like if there's a next great "new energy" source out there that is known, we'd have it by now. From what I can gather, alternate technologies at this time are not economical.

Ray, there is a reason that power companies are investing in wind farms beyond the green regs some states are passing. If you have solar or wind power in your home the utility is glad to buy the excess. Wind has some major advantages over a coal or gas plant as well. Instant online. they can throw a switch and the generator starts humming. with a coal plant its a few hours to get it on line if the boiler is hot, longer if its not. It costs dollars to have a boiler primed and warm but not producing energy. The optimum is to have the online equipment at 80% load.
A standard residential genset costs $20K, and if you have an all electric home, the payback takes 9 years or so.

I think I am pretty dispassionate about all of this. a few things.
1. In Texas where I live, the energy companies must buy back your unused power. I think solar has a place here, but not baseline. The days we use the most energy is when the sun is baking us in July and August from about 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm. solar panels on office buildings near the grid would be perfect.
2. The next big thing is here. It is nuclear. chances of oil eventually running out are 100%. Oil will take itself out of the equation. The oil companies know this. With today's pricing it is already happening in early stages.

so ultimately free markets will take care of this.

3. Peggy makes a great point about the hinderance of wealth creation in the developing countries. Its tragic.

A useful link my husband just sent me.

Posted by: Peggy U on October 27, 2007 02:24 PM

But Peggy - Prosper said they are financed by the eeeeevil oil companies.

Posted by: Denny on October 27, 2007 02:42 PM

Denny: Who puts the most money and effort into researching alternate energy sources? I confess I don't know, but I have a hunch the eeeevil oil companies spend more on this than Al Gore and other environmentalists. If there is an alternative to oil, they'd want to be in on the ground floor.

Posted by: Peggy U on October 27, 2007 05:52 PM

Peggy - Don't let the tinfoil hat brigade know this.

Posted by: Denny on October 28, 2007 01:06 AM

Hash this shit out, I'll be in the basement building a rocket ship to the Sun or just drinking wine and watching Gutfeld on the tv. Get back to me later?
