No paradox at all, the M14 is a tool and can be used for many purposes. The M1A is the semi-auto civilian version and it is still popular.
The M16 has the AR15 civilian version.
Paradox is more like the A-bomb killed 200,000 Japanese and conventional bombing killed a million, but the 2 A-bombs ended the war, saving at least 5 million lives.
Another paradox, school and college administrators operate "gun free zones" for safety and of course, since the victims are defenseless, the death toll is far higher than if the ordinary adult student was allowed to be armed for lawful self-defense.

That is going on my wall right next to the gun rack. I've had my M1A for seven years now, and love it.

Denny-
You know me too well! I absolutely love it! That rifle is a work of art. Christmas is just around the corner... (wink..wink...) (hint...hint...) I just built an M4 recently, and I need to step it up a notch! The M1A is my next purchase when the funds let me have some fun with my ca$h. Maybe you can influence my boss for a bigger Christmas bonus this year? Gotta love the .308!

Jim Macklin-
AMEN!

I loved this as well. My Kid has this gun tatooed-ick I hate tatoos -under his belly button. his motto is have gun will travel.

Jim Macklin - well said. those in Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just as dead as those that were fire bombed in tokyo....and I think virtually anyone would prefer the instant death of radiation to catching on fire and breathing in all that black smoke.

I guess it is a sizzle/steak thing.

Loved the M-14. Trained with it in basic. Damned thing kicked the shit out of my scrawny 115 lb ass. Only qualified marksman with a sucking chest wound bandage on my shoulder to pad some of the recoil to my bruise, which extended from ribcage to neck. Later qualified expert with M-16, but my choice of round has to be .308. Have a very nice Swedish bolt action in that caliber and love it to death. Next Gun may just be the M1A1. Either that or a Romanian AK-47 because it's cheaper.

Thanks Denny. If and when I get my permits, it'll be the first rifle I'll be shopping for.

In Canada, the only legal magazines hold 5 rounds. :-(

Long Distance Survival/Defense Rifle.....

M14/M1A, Good choice.....At present I make due with (2) AK`s, several Russian SKS`s & a Russian Tokarev SVT 1940. The AK`s & SKS`s with the small round 7.62 X 39 are fun shooters with the SKS a better choice for longer distance to say 200 yds or so, the old Russian 7.62 X 54 in the Tokarev will reach much farther out. This round is somewhere between the .308 & .303

On the horizon .....a lefthand version of the AR-15 from Stag Arms
In my dreams a genuine Russian Druganov....kinda pricy if you can find one.

dudley1-
A buddy of mine has the Stag Arms lefty version. It's pretty cool because it's different, but pointless, as I am too a lefty, and have never been hit by my own brass with any rifle.

CharlieDelta.......

There is a perfectly logical explanation for buying a Stag Arms Lefthand version of the AR-15..........Because!......While that is a good enough reason, actually if you have a split case or a primer pocket malfunction,it is possible to get powder flash, hot gas or case particles in your face when the gun cycles. True, I have never seen it happen with a rifle but I have have a face full of fire & hot gases from a right handed 1100 shotgun while shooting trap when a case seperated. Better safe then sorry.

dudley1-
I guess having never had a bad experience with a "right-handed" rifle or shotgun, I can't appreciate where you're coming from. Maybe because my entire life, I've had to learn to adapt because there never had been a "lefty" version. Like I said, the Stag Arms left-handed version is cool because it's different, but everything is backwards to me. I shot that thing for hours trying to get used to it and I couldn't. I feel much more comfortable with the righty version, but that's just me. Right-handed pistols are the same. I'm just used to them and having to adapt. Hell, I bat right-handed & play the guitar right-handed too. It's too late for me to try it like it was supposed to be. Maybe I should call the ACLU and claim discrimination? Nah, that would just make me a flaming liberal.

BTW, the only thing "left" I am is handed...

CharlieDelta......

Yeah , sometimes being lefthanded is a problem unless you are in a fight with someone who does not know you are lefthanded ....they seldom see the left hook or uppercut coming.

The only shoulder guns which are a problem for me are the right handed auto loaders for the reason I mentioned. Pistols or revolvers no problem unless they are military with lanyard rings which are on the wrong side for a left hander.

Hey, when I was younger I switchhit & played golf righthanded both fairly well. I even used to pick a little right handed , enough to impress some of the girls .... not enough to impress anybody who knew what guitar work was supposed to sound like.

....they seldom see the left hook or uppercut coming.

Dudley1-
I have used that to my advantage a time or two. It's definately a good one! They never see it comin'...

When I referred to the hand guns, I should've specified the 1911. That is a sweet piece, but definatly not made for the South-Paw. However, I have adjusted to make it work.

When you get that Stag in your hands, I would appreciate your input...

It might cost you a few, but if/and/when you do get yourslef an AR, check out the Patriot Ordinance Factory upper. The gas-trap system is a work of art and seldom fails...
