Sore

It really sucks to be old. I'm still sore from the ski trip. All around my waist, I'm stiff and sore. I'm too sore to resume my workout regimen which really pisses me off. I think the last day of skliing on all of the fresh powder took a lot out of me. It really is a good thing I didn't ski the final day.

The trip home was interesting. Long time readers may remember that last year I got stranded in Aspen because of the sucky airport they have. On the second day, when it looked like I would be stranded again, I scored a rental car and drove to Denver.

This year, to prevent a repeat, we flew into Denver and rented a mid-sized SUV (Hummer), and drove to Snowmass. It looks like it was a wise decision since it was snowing when we left. I doubt if any planes got out that day.

Before we left, Ryan went down to get all the snow off the Hummer and get it warmed up. When he got there, someone was cleaning it off already. He thought it was his friend's Hummer.

The drive was interesting. Trucks were required to have chains driving up to Vail Pass and the Eisenhower tunnel. Even so, some of the trucks with chains were still having problems. We saw at least one truck stuck that didn't have chains on. Dumb! Big tickets for those dudes.

We had four wheel drive and didn't have any problems. The drive from Aspen to Denver normally takes about four hours. We made it in four and a half hours. Not bad considering the weather.

I gotta get rid of this stiffness because in a little over two weeks, I'm heading back to Snowmass for the annual Shepherd Crip Trip. This will be my last time skiing on rental equipment. Next year, I'll have my own gear.

You're such a jetsetter. Glad you had a good trip. Sounds like you just need a good soak in hot tub to get back on track.

Hope this first-hand contact with Gorbal warming has set you straight on this most serious topic.

yep, like the old man said,"old age ain't for sissies." But I still figure it beats hell out of the alternatives.

Ooooh I hear ya on the soreness issue Denny. I went skiing on Saturday and woke up Sunday thrilled to not feel a thing and today... (Tuesday for the mindless) I hurt like I've been working out 24 straight and my knee caps are killing me.
When I was younger I used to do twice the amount I do now but, now I just feel twice the pain... Such is life I guess.

Damn man, when did a Hummer become a mid-size suv?

Even though you're older than me and more deserving of getting sore what with your global travels and all, I think I got you beat in the "I feel old" category. We got a Wii for Christmas and my 7 year old daughter and I play it almost nightly. Good daddy daughter time there. Well the other night we spent two hours bowling, playing tennis, golfing and the killer, boxing. I woke up the next morning thinking I had just run a marathon and all the hell I did was play a video game. I am not aging well that's for sure. By the time I'm your age, I'll probably be unable to stand on my skis and if I can, will probably break in two when I wipe out. I hear you about the pain, but can't sympathize cause I'd give anything to close up shop and go hit the slopes. And you, you bastard, get to do it twice in one season. It sucks to be a SRF doesn't it?

Ray
you have what we call WII shoulder, we have had one for over a year and it took alot of playing time before we were not sore. I agree boxing is the toughest one on the body.

Ok... you rough and tough guys, you're actually going to complain about being sore from video games? Oh wait, that's right you're guys so I guess that explains the whining...err, I mean complaining part.
JUST TEASING!!!! sheesh... you're the ones who set yourselves up for that diss ya know, lol
;-P

Oh, dear! I hear Wii is coming out with exercise games for us geezers next. Yoga and such.

It's like my husband's aunt says, "When you hit 40, it starts to hit back!"

Peggy

I can't believe all you suck asses are being sympathetic to Denny. It should be a badge of honor to be sore after a trip to Snowmass. I've skied since I was 3, Snowmass, Mt. Hood, WP/MJ, Alyeska, Heavenly, etc. I used to burn to a crisp and come back to the midwest and rub it into all the flatlanders that got "big air" off their mole hill. Denny, be sore, you paid for it!!!!!

Daryl - It was the baby Hummer.

Webster_statesman - Did you go to Webster High? I'm class of 1964.
