More Global Warming News

I may have to make this a weekly feature. First off let's go to Jordan. Scroll down to find the item.

Freak snowstorm jams up Jordan

The lone de-icing machine at Jordan's busy international airport in Amman worked frantically to clear planes for takeoff after a freak snowstorm in the desert country. Meteorologists called it the worst cold front since 1964.

Yikes! And just last week it snowed in Baghdad for the first time in 100 years. This global warming stuff is getting serious.

Remember how Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW blamed Katrina on global warming?

goreiccane.bmp.jpg

Stole the image from Don Surber.

And remember how Pope Albert's acolytes told us that the last two hurricane seasons were supposed to be above average? And remember how the last two hurricane seasons were relatively calm? Yannow why they were calm? You guessed it. Global warming.

Washington —- Global warming could reduce how many hurricanes hit the United States, according to a new federal study that clashes with other research.

Ya mean Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW was wrong? And the IPCC was wrong? How can that be? They got the Nobel Peace Prize. Surely them Norwegians couldn't be wrong. My faith is shattered!

Let's slip in a Norwegian joke here. It seems Norway and Sweden were playing football. All of a sudden a whistle blew. The Swedes, thinking that the game was over, ran off the field. Two plays later the Norwegians scored.

Thank you. Thank you. I'm here all week. I have a good friend from North Dakota and she tells me all these Norwegian jokes, most of them with Lena and Ole.

But I digress.

The new study is the latest in a contentious scientific debate over how manmade global warming may affect the intensity and number of hurricanes.

So if global warming doesn't mean more hurricanes, let's just change tack and say that global warming means less hurricanes, unless, of course, we start getting more hurricanes and then we can say that global warming means more hurricanes. Got that? We have a study to fit every scenario. Hotter? Global warming. Colder? Global warming. Droughts? Global warming. Floods? Global warming. Parting of the seas? Global warming. Moses didn't have anything to do with it.

In it, researchers link warming waters, especially in the Indian and Pacific oceans, to increased vertical wind shear in the Atlantic Ocean near the United States. Wind shear —- a change in wind speed or direction —- makes it hard for hurricanes to form, strengthen and stay alive.

So that means "global warming may decrease the likelihood of hurricanes making landfall in the United States," according to researchers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Miami Lab and the University of Miami.

So does that mean global warming is a good thing? Less hurricanes is a good thing, right?

With every degree Celsius the oceans warm, the wind shear increases by up to 10 mph, weakening storm formation, said study author Chunzai Wang, a research oceanographer at NOAA. Winds forming over the Pacific and Indian oceans have global effects, much like El Nino does, he said. Wang said he based his study on observations instead of computer models and records of landfall hurricanes through more than 100 years.

But all those other guys based their studies on observations and stuff as well didn't they? I thought the debate was over.

In conclusion, global warming was not responsible for Katrina. Bush did it. Yep! He and Cheney got out the Haliburton Hurrican Generator (patent pending) and created Katrina because he hates black people.

At least he doesn't fall asleep when they're speaking in church like our first black president did.

"Global Warming is going to cause an increase in killer hurricanes. No wait, it's the reason we haven't had in increase in killer hurricanes."

It just goes to show you these morons have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Two plays later they scored. Heeeheeehheeee. I love it! We are getting hit with snow again here in Illinois, I guess thats due to Global Warming.

Two plays later is an old Aints joke.

Two plays later is an old Aints joke.

Except in the case of the Aints (after the other team walked off the field) they made a first down and then survived a third-and-long before scoring the touchdown.

Am I supposed to understand those global warming news? Well, I don't! We've never been so cold, for so long, in Toronto. We're all discouraged, young and old alike. Allow me to tell you, politely, that some of your politicians are nuts!

And, as I am writing this comment, there is a bug all over my screen. I think you're trying to get rid of me, Dennis!

its bushes fault that there have been to many hurr....not enough hurric..uh....that the jordanians only have one de-icer... there... got it.

Posted by: patrick on January 23, 2008 11:27 PM

It is all Bushes fault. We are supposed to get down to 9 deg F tonight. If Bush would have made the US convert to the metric system and it got down to 9 deg C, which is about 48 deg F, you might have been able to call it Global Warming. If this doesn't make any sense to you, you are not a Global Warming Fanatic or haven't had enough to drink this evening.

Ole and Lena jokes are still popular in Wisconsin's Norwegian communities.

That picture of Algore seems to show one asshole pointing to another.

Posted by: Chris C. on January 24, 2008 02:57 AM

Claudia, you can't pull that trick on us. Your politicians are even crazier than ours!

Current air temperature here in Davenport, IA is -12, wind chill is -29. Since the Iowa Caucuses ended, all the hot air seems to have left the area.

Right now at Drudge there's a link to a Goracle article stating that climate change is MUCH worse than was predicted even by the most pessimistic of predictions. It's possible that within 5 years, the entire North Pole ice cap will have defrosted. Holy Crap. Glad I own a boat.

football, global-warming & jokes....

The football game was between Poland & the Italians....Poland went home when they mistook the factory whistle for the refs whistle , two plays later the Italians scored on a 50 yard run after being penalized twice for unneccessary roughness to the quarterback & being offsides.

I was late to the shop again ....had to snow blow another overnight dumping of 10" of global warming in the driveway & sidewalk , then at the shop had to snow-blow 14" of global warming there in case anybody wanted to visit , deliver, pickup or report to work. Really feel better global warming causes less hurricanes, maybe my sister in Bradenton can get a rebate for the higher insurance costs she had to pay after Katrina.

Special note! my shop is located in what we call the snowbelt ..a section of highlands about 6 miles from the shores of Lake Erie where the accumulated moisture decides to dump itself when the winds blow it that direction .....can be from 30 to 100 inchs of extra global warming each year, now ain`t that just dandy!

Here Scandinavian jokes feature Sven & Hilda, Polish jokes feature Stan & Anna, Italian jokes feature Bruno & Angie.....political jokes feature Hillary & Bill.

Anyone ever notice that if you scramble the letters of algore's name it spells "I'm a lying shyster con artist who'll peddle any ecoretarded bullshit to keep my irrelevant fat ass in the limelight and make a few bucks off you gullible shitheels who buy into my phony junk science religion".

Really, it does.

Steve: I'm a tourist on this blog. If you want me to come back, don't scream the ugly truth about my politicians. I hear more than I can stomach at home about them. I come here so I can hear about other nuts, for a change...OK!OK! I won't put my two-cents worth. But I think you all need help...

Posted by: Claudia in Toronto on January 24, 2008 10:15 AM

Denny ....

One thing that global warming has influenced here negatively is the cessation of the winter racing season at the new local horse track.....the horses just could not get the hang of running with snowshoes on while making the turns!......Oh well, at least the casino is still open.

Posted by: dudley1 on January 24, 2008 11:18 AM

I'm not trying to scare you off Claudia. I know that Denny appreciates having another Bach enthusiast out there. It's just that I have friends in Toronto, and I get to hear first hand about your politicians, and they might be worse than ours.

I think I have this figured out. The Polor Icecaps contain a lot of Cold. When they melt,
the Cold escapes and moves south along with evaporiated ice. Hence cold rain and snow here in
Southern Kalifornia.

And the Weather Service promised us another year
of Drought, Darn.
