Woody sent me this article.
Bernard Kouchner, the foreign minister of France and a longtime humanitarian, diplomatic and political activist on the international scene, says that whoever succeeds President George W. Bush may restore something of the United States' battered image and standing overseas, but that "the magic is over."
Spare me from this pompous bullshit! What fucking magic is this asshole talking about? The only magic we ever had from the French was right after 9/11. Then when we decided to do sumpin' about the terrorists, rather than cowering in fear like the French and looking for someone to surrender to, they went right back to hating us just like the liberals in this country.
Yeah if we elect some far left rat bastard commie like Jug Ears or Thunder Thighs, the French can pretend to like us but they'll still hate us.
Asked whether the United States could repair the damage it has suffered to its reputation during the Bush presidency and especially since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, Kouchner replied, "It will never be as it was before."
WTF is this asshat talking about? What before is he thinking about? The French have hated us since we rescued their asses in WWII. They hate us because we had to kick the Germans out of France. They couldn't do it. They hate us because we had to foot the bill to rebuild their country. Did they offer to pay us back? Are you kidding?
I can't read anymore of this steaming pile of cow crap. Take your fucking magic and cram it up your ass, Froggie. Fuck you and your worthless country!
And if you want to know how the French really feel about us wait until the French trolls (not you Prosper) start commenting.

"La merde"..."Ton cul" (don't pronounce the l, and lift the finger)..."Va chier"..."Va te foirer"..."Ferme ta gueule"..."Va pisser"..."Tête de cochon"..."Vacherie"...
All those words fit very well. The last magic for them was Jackie Kennedy in Paris. She wore the fashion, and talked culture rolling her rrrrrs.
The French went crazy! Marie-Antoinette was back!!!
Us, French-Canadian peasants in Montreal laughed our heads off.
He is only a diplomat. I lived in that world. It's unreal! They babble their wisdom at parties, have all the solutions, go home and never jump to action.

I would argue that no such "magic" existed even then. See 9-11 in Paris c/o No Pasaran.
Herr Blucher - All our media showed us was a headline on a French newspaper that said in French "We are all Americans now". Nice to know that they hated us on 9/11 just as much as they hated us on 9/10.

Posted by: JAVEL on March 13, 2008 05:45 PMDenny: Yeah, I remember that.
I'm guessing that was done for the same reason that the palestinian authority implicitly threatened journalists who videotaped the 9/11 street celebrations. Though the majority of europeans--as palestinians--would just assume see America and her citizens burn (like el fucktard grande, here), those in charge would really rather not have the majority of Americans realize that fact.
Any shreds of sympathy I had for the plight of the pooher palestinians evaporated upon my viewing of that footage. Similarly, I've adopted a "hate them back" attitude toward europeans due to their non-stop bile-spitting invective slung at my country and me over the course of the past several years.
Posted by: Herr Blücher on March 13, 2008 05:58 PMI like the French.
Look what they did for our country.
Out of greed (and stupidity) Thomas Jefferson purchased (suckered) practically the entire midwest from these idyots for $23 mil.
What did we get:
Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, parts of Minnesota that were south of the Mississippi River, most of North Dakota, nearly all of South Dakota, northeastern New Mexico, northern Texas, the portions of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado east of the Continental Divide, and Louisiana on both sides of the Mississippi River, including the city of New Orleans. In addition, the Purchase contained small portions of land that would eventually become part of the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. The land included in the purchase comprises around 23% of the territory of the United States today.

Just like predicted when Denny baited the trap.....A French troll wandered out from under the bridge. It would be nice for at least Europe if your delusion for European ascendency were true....even better if the French had any real contribution.Maybe then we would not have to plan every generation or so to come over & save you. When people who are as far out of touch with reality as you are over here ....we lock them up & try to help them back to reality.
America is a rich country, one which has given more to the world then all other nations combined........some countries are grateful, some are now becoming world powers in their own right but some are contemptuous & ashamed they lacked the ability to defend or free themselves, they lash out at those who they should be most grateful to.
Once France was a leading world power with huge colonial holdings, enormous prestige & even lent a helping hand to the Fledgling United States during our War for Independance. The history of France though has not been that of a prestigeous nation as one by one they betrayed & abandoned the Colonial holdings established with French immigration.....A prime example is Canada, how about North Africa or French Equatorial Africa? No the sad state of affairs today is the French empire is but a shadow of former greatness peopled with a multitude of delusional fools just like yourself.
Today you are faced with a threat greater then any ever posed by the Germans but you are oblivious to it ....the rapidly increasing rise of Islam in the French heartland. It is you who are in the twilight of relevency in the world today. As you fall under the sword of Islamic domination, I do not think your new masters will be sympathetic for your delusions of past grandeur.
PS....when that day comes & you finally realize the truth , don`t call us!.... OK?

The French Foreign Minister should apologise to your President for his derogatory and inane comment. He would not have a country today if you had not gone to fight in Europe in the 2nd World War. You helped England with money, supplies and valued advisers long before you were attacked by Japan, and went oversea.
The Old World cannot forgive you because they need your military power to survive the dangers of today. On your own, you have attained a valuable culture in arts and sciences. It's spreading everywhere. Europe has lost its supremacy. It is not ready to admit it yet.

You're right! It's not a very graceful gesture. We learned it from the French when they dumped us in 1763. They got so busy in France cutting one another's head in 1789 that they forgot we existed and were struggling to maintain our French existence in the New World.
We decided to become "Les Canadiens", got our own culture and colonised the French language. It's rich beyond belief and it's now part of our constitution. When a French comes to visit and snubs our accent and expressions, we "lamarde" him. We did it to De Gaulle, the shit-disturber, when he tried to take credit for "le Québec libre".
No great love and respect from the ex-French colony for the mother-land "la mère-patrie" who gave us the finger instead of good soldiers and supplies when we needed them.

That's why it angers me when other countries, who depend on you for survival, have the arrogance to put you down. It's your "magic" which protected the world during the Cold War. You're up in space at the moment, and you lost your "magic"???
The "magic" that you have is not solely the attribute of one president. It's born of your collective soul, one by one, and together. A country is built by the will and the heart of the people.
It does function better with respectable, experienced leadership.
That's why it angers me that a president, who has desecrated his office and betrayed you with inacceptable behaviour, is still walking around free, with his wife, seeking another term.
It also scares me that an inexperienced young man might take charge of your country in those difficult times. You all deserve better than that.

Posted by: Mark (may be the other one) on March 15, 2008 12:19 AMDenny - Javel is a nobody. The person I'm really angry at is Bernard Kouchner, the foreign minister of France. I printed the article that you sent us to in the International Herald. I'm sending it to Sarkozy with a letter in French. I'm a nobody but I know how to write. Sarkozy needs the Americans. He is under a lot of pressure at home. He might not read my letter but somebody around him will. I'll tell him what the Americains think of him and his country, and what he owes to USA.
I've done things like that all my life. Sometimes it works. The foreign minister was at fault when he put down the United States and President Bush.
Sarkozy knows that. Let him know that someone from another country knows that too.
Claudia, You should know that Kouchner was one of the strongest supporter of the invasion of Iraq here in France. But, as in America, people can open their eyes in France too. Maybe not in Canada?
You should watch abc. What do you think of that?

I can appreciate a Frenchman such as Prosper because he is able to post in a manner which reflects intelligence & respect for civility even when we disagree....you on the other hand are the reason Denny has established the term "Troll" to identify one who is coarse, rude & of low intelligence who gives one feelings of revulsion not pity.
As some others have posted "who gives a damn what the French think about us" Let me clarify a bit, there are many good people in France , you are not one of them .France does has a large minority segment of its population who reflect a similar point of view as do you, this is the French we ridicule & bait on this website for amusement, however this is not indicative of all of French people just those like you.

You missed the point completely. This is not about the war in Iraq. It's about the French foreign minister giving an official interview to the Herald Tribune, putting down USA, President Bush, and implying a new president will be better but USA will never recover. It's totally improper for a foreign minister to discuss the political affairs of another country during their election time. Is Kouchner speaking in the name of Sarkozy? That's what I intend to ask.
Since his election, Sarkozy has been courting USA's friendship. If President Bush is replaced by another Republican, it will be hard for Sarkozy to have a smooth relationship with USA. It will even be hard to have one with ANY president if France continues to bark at the only country which can help it in time of need.
You mention Canada. You can be sure that our politicians, when the're in power, are smart enough not to criticize USA foreign policy in public, and not to intervene in USA elections. I could give you an example of our Prime Minister chastising an aide who leaked a detrimental story about the democratic candidates.
But I don't have time to speak to you any longer. I'm writing to Sarkozy. He might never read my letter but someone around him will. That's all that matters. If I were you I would try to make some American friends. They're warmhearted and a lot of fun to be with.

Posted by: JAVEL on March 15, 2008 11:08 AMC'mon Javel. Read the rules of this site. One of them is if you are gonna insult me try to come up with something original and amusing. "misinformed jerks"? Not original. Not amusing. Your insults are just lame. Also, if you're gonna criticize America try to learn something about this country first, not what you read in your anti-American newspapers. You are as misinformed about my country as you accuse me of being misinformed about France. I realize that you're pissed off that France is no longer a world power and that you are busy surrendering to Muslims and want to bring the United States down to the level of France, but it ain't gonna happen. Our little pissant 200 year old country is stronger than France ever was and is richer than France ever was or ever will be. History has passed you by Javel. Live with it.

Posted by: Denny on March 15, 2008 11:42 AMClaudia - Actually, most of us on this site have grown to like Prosper. He debates honestly and follows the rules. We tease him and he teases us. If he ever comes to Atlanta, he has an open invitation for dinner at my house. He and I have corresponded offline. He has three beautiful children. Prosper and his family is one of the reasons that I hope France one day comes to its senses and addresses their Moo-slime problem. However, I don't think that will happen. Fortunately, I'll be gone by then, so I'll still be able to buy Delamain cognac. After they surrender to Islam, there will be no more wine or cognac.
Posted by: Denny on March 15, 2008 12:00 PMOMFG. Please go on, guys, I'm wetting my pants right now, there is so much love for my beloved country (France) out there that I'll start whinin'! ;-)
It's always surprising to see what kind of arguments you manage to find to prove that France has always hated USA. What can I say ? Politics have nothing to do with real people's feelings. As far as I can think of it, I don't know a single person around me who hates your country. Me ? I love my country like nothing else, but I visited USA several times and I truly think it's a nice and rich place with lots of warm and welcoming people (I guess they don't stick around in this place, lol). That's why I always try to be as nice and welcoming as I can when I meet US people in my store in France. No "rednecks" silly stereotypes in my mind, no prejudices, just natural friendship.
Hate us if it can ease your mind, but the only thing I can say is that the great majority of the French people consider you as our friends and allies, no matter what you can read here and there. I consider American people as my bros, even if it may sound childish to some of you.
Claudia - I think you're really mistaken in your vision of French people, which sounds oh-so cliché (like everything else I usually read on this blog). My wife was born in Quebec, she's been living now in France for 6 years and everyone here unrolls the red carpet under her feet just because she's a Quebecer. I know Canada really well, and I respect this country as every other one, for all the good things we can share together. Sadly enough, I don't think it would be a refreshing experience to meet a hateful person like you in Canada though.
One thing's for sure though : I really don't know what this amount of hatred is all about. To be honest, I think it's totally pointless. Too much hatred, and very few knowledge.
I read really nasty stuff about us on this site. Of course you're free to think and to say what you want about us, but one more time : we've got absolutely nothing against the USA. I coundn't say more than that. Believe me or not. You're absolutely welcomed in our country.
Peace y'all. Hiyah Prosper !
Eric
eric - Where did you get your excellent command of English along with many of its idioms? Did you spend some time in the US?
Posted by: Denny on March 15, 2008 12:26 PMDenny - I'm glad Prosper has some friends in USA. He questioned my manners and my political views. I answered his comments with historical facts past and present. I don't share ALL the views on the French in this blog. I certainly defended my language when it was attacked. But History has brought me closer to France than you have ever been. My experiences have been different.
There is no hatred in my heart, just dislike and indifference.
Denny - No, I visited the USA quite a few times, but I've never spent more than 15 days in your country, although I'd sell a kidney to come back and visit New York one day. I'm just interested in the American pop culture (I'm an action figure collector), and I like the English language. I think French is a wonderful language, but English has got tons of funny idioms and puns. I love it !
To tell the truth, I see the USA as a very different country, with a different culture and a completely different way of life. But after all, this is what gathers us at the end of it all : we don't live the same way, yet we live on the same planet. So instead of vomiting one on each others, which is totally useless, why not trying to discover which kind of values we can share together ? The surrender jokes are really old-fashioned... Not even funny anymore...
Y'know, Denny, when you say "fuck you" against French people on your posts, this goes straight to my heart and it makes me feel really sad. I just think this is wrong, cause I would never think of saying things like this toward Americans in France. Yeah...sometimes words hurt, buddies. More than you would think.
eric - No hatred in my heart. Great dislike based on historical facts, past and present.
Also huge indifference about what you think about us.
All the best to you and your wife.
Posted by: Claudia in Toronto on March 15, 2008 01:13 PMEric - When I make fun of France, it is usually directed at your leaders, like Chiraq, who undermine our foreign policy. Of course, I'm also ridiculing assholes like Javel. I've made two friends from my French bashing: Pierce, who is studying here in Atlanta at Georgia Tech. He and his wife want to reside here permanently. And Prosper. Even though he and I see eye to eye on nothing, we still respect each other and I would enjoy meeting him someday. I've had Pierce to dinner a few times. Prosper has an open invitation.

When I read your blog for the first time, and went through your months of French bashing, I couldn't understand why you were spending so much time on the people. We're so indifferent in Quebec. Unless they come and put their nose in our business, we never think or speak about them.
When we do express our discontent for a new specific reason, we always end up saying, "But the language is so beautiful, and the wine is sublime!"
That's the way I'll say goodbye to your French bashing, now and forever. Thank you, France, for my language and for your wines. One by one, and together, you French can be infuriating but it's easy to let you be you, when I lift my glass of Chateauneuf-du-pape in the company of my friends. À la vôtre!

I would like to say thank you for a response which is articulate, genuine & places you in the category of the good French people.
If you have read any of my past posts you would know of my respect for the French speaking people of Quebec & my interest for meeting & making friends wherever I have traveled.
It is sufficent to say in my former career I was fortunate enough to have traveled many places in this world & had enjoyed the experiences I had in a number of countries from the Orient thru Europe & points south. However I would like to clarify to you why the feelings I have toward the French as being cold, aloof & ungrateful come from the attitude of many of your countrymen when the issue of the American sacrifice with the death of so many of our servicemen who died liberating your country that lie at rest in the military cemetaries established for them. I could go on at great length as to the anger or hurt I feel about this but it is enough you know the sword cuts both ways.
On my last trip to Switzerland, our hosts took us across the French Border to have a meal in France & enjoy the French experience in a region which was supposed to welcome visitors.I do not remember the town but we crossed into France somewhere near Lac de Neuchatel. Everything went fine until it was related to the French people who were attending to the meal our hosts had arranged....... We 'Americans" were referred to as murderers & bastards at which point the meal was over & back to Swizerland we went.Hardly a selling point for friendliness.
Anyway it is a sore point with me as in my ancestry there is a significant French connection of which my Grandmother was most proud of ....I never had the heart to tell her of my experiences,I let her remembrance`s stay forever in memory pleasant.
Anyway Eric, please continue to post as does Prosper to offset the experiences so many of we Americans have had.Best wishes...... Dudley1
"How does one say "Fuck you" in French?"
Va chier (general use)
Allez vous faire foutre (go F yourselves...)
Va te faire foutre (go F yourself...)
Ta mère... (yo mama)
J'ai niqué ta soeur (I did your sister)
...well, you should have a working knowledge of french right there.
Stupidity is found everywhere, but in France it has it's own special flavor. Right on, Denny!
Posted by: red collar on March 15, 2008 10:23 PMDenny - Yeah, you already told me that and I get your point, but the same could be done about your administration from a foreign point of view. Is this kind of posts really useful for anyone ? And I'm sorry, but sometimes you bash French people, and not the French administration. Spreadind the ridiculous idea that we don't bath and that we smell (for instance) doesn't give any credit to the clever person you seem to be. But it's up to you and your conscience, Denny. Please as yourself if all these posts sound right for all the persons who live in peace in France, don't give a fuck about politics, don't hate anyone in particular and bath twice a day.
Dudley - Y'know, stupidity can be found everywhere. If you had come to France and met me, I would have invited you for a couple of beers, we would have sung together and all the people in the bar would have invited you for a drink and asked tons of questions to know how you live, which kind of car you drive, the best way to make a good american meal, etc.... You would have gone back to USA with warm anecdotes in your mind.
Imagine a second that I would fly to USA, and fall across one single anti-French person who would insult me. Would it be clever to go back to France and spread everywhere around me the idea that American people are arrogant and dumb dipshits ? Of course not. You seem to be an educated person, so I guess you'll get the point.
Red collar - What can I say.. I pity you. Your silly posts are as irrelevant as what you dare to call a blog. I'm really sad for you and your stupidity. Take exemple on guys like Dudley for instance, and read some books. It may give you headaches, but.. could be handy one day. One thing's for sure, from my point of view you don't honour Quebec with this kind of behaviour. My wife just read your post and she feels really ashamed. But I guess you'll never be able to understand that. Sheesh... Mediocrity...
Claudia - Well, I hope you will open up your mind one day. We French are not devil's minions, in any case not more than you or everyone else. I wouldn't lift a finger at you, never. Someone whose name is as beautiful as Claudia can't be that bad, lol ;-)) A la tienne !
Cheers,
Eric
Eric....
Well, I guess it would have been quite an experience to have made acquaintance with you,or those who take the time to assess people on individual merit before making any conclusion as their worth or integrity. Actually the people of Quebec who I like very much are like this as when they see who you really are & whether you reciprocate in an intelligent friendly manner...... if so, you have a friend...... if not, the whole town turns against you.
By the way I will make no excuses for what I consider to be "Ugly Americans" who when visiting other countries complain , deride local customs or act in a boorish or rude condescending fashion forgetting they are just a guest. For sure some Americans fit this description to a tee & deserve whatever they recieve in turn.
In response to the point you wanted to make with me.....It would have been nice to at least have had one instance for friendly interaction with some one in France during the times there, but I did not. I know there are people like yourself or Prosper, but I obviously was in the wrong places at the wrong time.
Anyway I am sure most of the posters feel as do I ....stay on board & keep posting. Denny is a first class VSP when it comes to hosting a website..."Very Swell Person". Cheers!
Eric -
I said I would not comment again but your words invite a response. Your admission that you are one of the persons who doesn't give a "fuck" (an expression I seldom use) about politic saddens me. France gets the people that it elects. Why don't you pay attention to what's going on in your country? If you and others are so willing to be friends with USA, maybe you could put in power someone who would not denigrate the United States' foreign policy. Do you have any idea how it feels for an American to see its country vilified constantly not just by French bums on the streets, but by the French president and its foreign minister? This has been going on for YEARS. Do you ever hear President Bush, or anyone in his government, telling France to shut up? I understand Denny's post, I understand all the readers who tell the French to fuck off. The Americans are EXASPERATED by the constant criticism of their country and by the lack of gratitude for what has been and still is provided to France. YOU THE PEOPLE ELECTED YOUR GOVERNMENT. Take responsibility for its action. You are guilty of their sins, and of their omissions. Pay attention to the politic of your country. Denny doesn't attack any particular person, only your politicians and ALL the French who put them there. Presently it's hard, very hard to love you, and to respect you as a nation.
I understand Dudley1. My brother went through similar experiences. He was part of the Normandy Invasion on June 6th, 1944, with the Régiment of Maisoneuve. He was so proud to be on French soil. You had failed Quebec in the past. He did not mind. He was there to liberate his motherland. The Germans fought like desperate devils. My brother's friends were dying around him. His battalion finally drove the enemy away. They arrived exhausted at the first village. They were treated like dirt. Even his French-Canadian accent was ridiculed. A gentleman, an educated man, a lawyer, a major in his regiment, later a colonel, my hero! 40 years after the war, he went to Beny-sur-mer where 2079 Canadians are buried. From Normandy, he went with his wife to Paris. He met rude people who pretented not to hear him. He was not an exhausted soldier in need of water. He put them at their place in a French that they could understand. The expressions of RedCollar seem to be the only ones that some of your people deserve.
On a one-to-one basis, maybe some of you are acceptable. I'll read your literature. That's good enough for me!
All the best to you and your wife. À la vôtre!
Eric- RE: REDCOLLAR.
Unlike your wife, I'm proud of RedCollar's blog. I would encourage anyone to read it and to comment on it. It's a bilingual blog. It reports news and events from all around the world. I don't always agree with what it says but, like Denny, Serge (RedCollar) will publish even critical comments and often will reply. Neither the French language and the English are at university level but I don't think that's a prerequisite for a blog.
RedCollar is an intelligent young man who is trying to find justice and fairness in the world. He could spent his time posting pornography or inane, superficial subjects instead of dealing with the problems that older generations have saddled today's young people.
Keep the good work, RedCollar. I applaud you!

I don't know how to send someone to another blog. But you can reach RedCollar with Yahoo: RedCollar blog. In French, his blog is called: PAS SOUMIS, PAS COLONISÉ.It's a bilingual blog.
Today, he has a very good quotation from W.H. Auden(1907-1973). It makes you think...
Why would another French-Canadian be ashamed of this Quebec young man's blog, I can't understand. Must be influenced by the French snobism of the environment.

Claudia - I never said I don't give a fuck about politics, I just said some don't. But I recognize my sentence was not clear.
Besides, maybe it would be time to get past the 2nd world war. Fer God's sake, this was 60 years ago. The US gummints has been taking various decisions in the 20th century you don't necessarily have to be proud of (unless people are blinded by the love of their country), and this is the case in any other country in the world.
Y'know, my family used to invite every American soldier they encountered to share a meal in their home. On the opposite, my neighbour on the 2nd floor in my house is an old woman who met an American soldier during the liberation. He stood with her just a couple of days and emptied the fridge more than once, but the only gift he made her was a son. Needless to say, this child never met his father, who ran as far as he could... Talk about courage and integrity. So you see, things can be far more complex than what you tend to believe, and "surrendering" is not always a matter of weapons. It's a matter of values and self-respect. Some French people acted like morons at that time, so did a part of the US soldiers who tended to believe that everything was allowed. How could we avoid that ? You can take every population anywhere in the world, some will be smart, and others not. A majority of American people will be nice and educated, while the other part will be dumb and irrelevant. Same thing in France. Nothing new under the sun, ma'am. :-)
The USA, like many other coutries, interfere where they can find an interest in it. This is not a criticism, not at all. It's just what happens every day with every gummint. Noone will make me believe that the USA sent all these soldiers in Irak just for the love of sun and desert, and striped lizards lying on the dunes...
Yes we elect our politicians, and I never missed any vote since my majority, but the attitude towards USA is not necessarily the main point of decision in our vote. Internal matters look more important to me. I like the USA, but your country isn't the bullseye of my world. No offense with that, I think everyone on this blog can understand that. Anyway, Sarkozy is pro-American, and I think it's a very good thing. Really.
Hey Dudley, I prolly never meet you in person, but please accept this virtual couple of beers and forgit about the morons you met. Heck, French beer deserves as much love as our wine ! ;-)

We French are really ashamed that we were too pussy to fight Germans in WWII. We also resent the fact that Americans had to rebuild our country for us. I am juvenile spoiled shithead.

I'm so grateful for the opportunity I had today to speak of my brother: Lieutenant-colonel Paul-Marcel Prévost who was the commandant of the Maisonneuve Regiment when he died, at 69, of a heart attack. He was also a lawyer, law professor and a Queen's Counsellor. He was 12 years older than I was, and my only brother. I never really told him how much I admired him. I was the youngest of a family of five, and a bit of a smart-aleck with my older siblings. They were always trying to educate me, and I resisted, of course. I missed my brother terribly when he was gone from 1939-1946. For me, a war is crying every night wondering if your brother is alive.
Like most veterans, his biography is on the internet, with his regiment. But I wish to thank you for being able to speak of him on your blog, among people I like and respect.
You're a good man, Denny. It's an honour to know you.
Posted by: Claudia in Toronto on March 16, 2008 07:35 PMPro & Con from an American perspective.....
Eric is an articulate chap who is able to give a response which demonstrates a moderate French statement for his opinion or belief of topics that differ somewhat from an American point of view.. He does so with grace, politeness & determination to make his position understood......This is PRO!
Lavel is a troll who resorts to hysterical braying, ingracious insults & offensive portrayal of historical events which bear little resemblance to the truth. He does so in a childish coarse vulgar fashion which marks him as at best a cretin.......This is CON!
Sorry Eric, but I do have to respond to Lavel on a few points....The very first people who penetrated the North American Continent in large numbers which encountered the Native Americans & introduced European style savagery, disease & Alcohol were the French. They were the first to seize Indian territory, destroy Indian culture, colonize the seized territory & then to later abandon their own people.
The rape of the North American continent was not prosecuted by the French alone as many other European powers of the time had bloody hands as well, so if the American/Canadian People are as offensive to Lavel as he portrays .....well we were taught by the common ancestors of both modern day Europe as well as America & Canada.
The differance between Lavel & myself is I acknowledge the sins of my Ancestors, he does not even recognize he has an Ancestory. In either case there will never be a reversal of what transpired 200/300 years ago.An awareness of who we as individuals are is essential so the sins of the past are not repeated. It is a common belief lessons of history have been similarily ignored by the French governing body also.
One other thought. ....Were the French Nation to ever attempt to partially repay the financial war debt from WW1 or WW2 maybe the American people would be more forgiving or tolerant of the antics of Lavel or similar who as you say Eric are not representative of all French people.
Anyway Eric,I tip my stein of beer to you & wish you all the best for you & your family.

Eric,I somehow forgot it is not "Lavel" it is "Javel". I must have tipped that stein a little too soon.

I told ya man, I told ya.. free beers for ya for the 50 years to come ! Hey whaddayawant, I do what I can. ;-)
Posted by: Eric on March 16, 2008 09:23 PMEric: Thank you! I'm sure my brother would have lifted his glass to you. (Scotch only. And only the best!) He also would have said that he came back from the war because the Americains went to fight in Europe. The Russians were busy in their own country with part of the German Army. The English and the Canadians were so depleted and so tired. There was no way they could arrange an invasion in France, or anywhere. My brother told us that when the Americans arrived, it was like a blood transfusion in a dying body. Suddenly plans were made. Everybody got energized.
What you're saying is true. The Americans had an interest in winning the war in Europe. THANK GOD, or WHATEVER YOU BELIEVE IN. Thank the gods that they had the men, the supplies, the energy, the courage, the cheerfulness. Thank the gods that they know how to fight, and that they are not stingy with their men and their money. Thank the gods that the war over, they stay behind to rebuild the Europeen countries. Thank the gods that they don't turn their back on anyone even when their face is slapped.
The reason why it's important to speak OFTEN of their participation in the 39-45 War is that they saved Europe from being dominated by fascism and communism. Today USA is your only chance not to be dominated by terrorists.
Thank you Americans for bringing my brother back.I pray that you keep the world safe for my grandchildren.

Free beer for 50 years???? Don`t know if I will live that long, but if you go to Zofingen Switzerland & get a couple of barrels of Hopfenperl Feldschloschen or Hurlemann Stern in Zurich we will call the debt even. I think I butchered the spelling a little but at the time saying Hopfenperl Feldschloschen was the sobriety test, spelling was out of the question. I probably could be persuaded to try some French beer as well, if they do as good as the Swiss do with wine it should be OK.
Claudia.....I echo Erics comments about your brother....some men were giants in those dark days, their deeds should never be forgotten or sullied. Though I was but a little child I remember some of the restrictions in place, I am thankful I never had to endure what so many in Europe had to bear or that any of my family died during that war.
Reflecting on that war during my formative years drove me to research the events which led to WW2 both in Europe & the Pacific. My conclusions do not neccessarily agree with standard history books in all aspects as the victorious get to write history & it sometimes is only from one point of view & does not represent the whole story.I personally believe to forget the mistakes of the past provides the likelihood of revisiting them. That is a topic for another post though.
WOW this has been quite a post
Eric...America does not hate France...to note we would do it again and everyone knows that, but few realize and thank us for that trait...that is what we want if I may say
Claudia, and that is one of my top favorite names...have never met a Claudia that is less than perfect...you have made us all reach to the deapths of our hearts to see things a little clearer...God I do thank you for that!!!
Dudley1 you to make me think more clearly...we are a great country, if the truth could only be emphasized, rather then the negatives...God how I hate double standards!!!!
I too have visited a lot of countries and to note... I have always been anxious to get home...I guess that is why we call it home
and on each visit I meet both types...the ones that make me want to come back and those that make me feel sad that they represent their country...but I have never judged a country on the latter...
If we cannot agree that the USA is great..than someday when this country and its people finally believe the nay sayers (sp)we will stop sending our sons to die
God Bless You All
and thank you very much Denny for this forum

I am just back from the doctor & more then a little sore in the nether region so bear with me if you will.
It is not my intent to judge an entire country based on the negative citizens alone, what I try to do is bait those who are negative to expose them for who or what they are.The Javels & similar who have slithered to this website spout their venom in abject hatred, my goal is infuriate them to remove any doubt as to their asininity.
The Erics , Prospers & Pierces who have visited & posted here deflect the brayings of the "French" Trolls, this deflation does aid in presenting an alternate view for France.People stirred by patriotism seem to be most capable of doing that.
For what it is worth .....I have ancestral heritage from France myself & want to see a better interaction with one of the fatherlands but reserve the right to pillory those "trolls" who richly deserve being brought up short.
