MoK sent me this article about Earth Hour. You remember Earth Hour right? That was the hour on Saturday that I turned on all of my lights, while the dingbats in Atlanta turned off lights in public buildings to raise awareness of global warming climate change. I'm aware of climate change. It's getting colder.
Credit the public with sense. Earth Hour, hysterically promoted by The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, the ABC, SBS, Sky News and the federal and state governments, resulted in no significant fall in power usage.
At least some of the public.
The organisers will say never mind, this was about raising awareness (although not of raising awareness of the facts). But here’s the awareness it should raise: how difficult it is to get even a tiny cut in just electricity use for one lousy hour, in a country responsible for just 1.5 per cent of the world’s emissions. And then think what the Rudd Government is promising: a 60 per cent cut in all emissions, all year. And it’s to be matched by every country around the world.
Meanwhile, the world has not warmed since 1998. Indeed, the oceans and atmosphere have cooled over the past couple.
Which is why Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW is starting his blitz about global warming climate change. Pretty soon everyone will find out that he's been peddling bullshit. Gotta make some more money before that happens.
Reader Sally points out that the hundreds of Brisbane residents who drove to Kangaroo Point, choking the roads, to see the lights go down sure made up for any cut in emissions:
Priceless!

You and the rest of the folks back home can rest easy this week. Thailand is hosting the International Climate Change Conference so most of the moonbats are over here. I was listening to the opening speeches on the radio yesterday, and all I can say is that if I had a nickel for every time the word "solidarity" was used, I would be rich.
Posted by: Gerald on March 31, 2008 09:08 PMEarth Hour started in Sydney, Australia (much to their everlasting shame), however no Aussie town could have been more pushy about the Bullshit Hour than the rural town of Castlemaine, Victoria, Aust. (pop. 8000 give or take a few wombats).
One particular Greenie ex-mayor-now-councilor-and-cafe-owner has pushed the "cause" for all he's worth, crowing that EH would be a resounding success.
Even the Green-Left CEO of the shire issued a Press Release encouraging all and sundry to take part.
How successful was it?

I left my monitor and all my cubicle lights turned on Friday night when I left work. I turned on every light, fan, radio, and TV in my apartment on Saturday evening. Then I drove eleven miles to my favorite tavern for a night of adult beverages and revelry.
I did my part.....

Posted by: Mary on March 31, 2008 11:58 PMI left all house lights, TVs and PCs running while I drove 20 miles (round trip) for dinner. Did I do OK?
It's been too chilly to do much
BBQ, so I've got a couple of million
carbon offsets laying around.
As I walked through the house, I became
aware of what was turned on. Being aware
made my guilt free feeling just that much
more,,,,free'er?
