That would be Irving Bloom of Atlanta who wrote this letter to the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation.
Politicians seem asleep at the wheelHello, Washington. Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Congress. Hello, Mr. President. Is everyone asleep?
Gasoline prices continue to rise, approaching $4 a gallon in some parts of the country. We have had prices out of control before, and our government stepped in with some kind of price control. But now it seems that all in control of our government are either asleep and don't know what is going on or what to do. All of us must ring the alarm clock and demand they do something to alleviate the problem. We the citizens are beginning to lose our patience.
Dear Irving,
You are an idiot!
Were you alive back in the 70's? That was the last time that we had price controls? Do you remember the gas lines? Do you remember the shortages? Here's the thing about price controls They. Do. Not. Work! You can't legislate the law of supply and demand. I wish I could think of an easy way to explain this simple concept but it seems to evade understanding for so many people. I call them Dimocrats. These are the same people who think socialism actually works when there is ample evidence (Cuba, USSR, Warsaw Pact Nations, Zimbabwe, and coming soon, Venezuela) that it has failed almost everywhere it has been tried. Socialism has been responsible for more deaths than Adolph Hitler. Stalin and Mao killed millions of people in the name of socialism and still there are dimbulbs who actually think they can make it work. Irving, I'm sure that you are one of them.
Irving, you simple tool, I'll bet you're a Dimocrat. I'll bet you are against drilling in ANWR. I'll bet you are against drilling off the coast of Florida and California. I'll bet you are against building new oil refineries.
There is no magic energy source over the horizon. Electric cars are not the answer until we can figger out how to make one that will do 70 MPH for three hours and only take ten minutes to recharge. And then we will have to produce the electricity to recharge it. You're prolly against nuclear power plants and coal fired plants.
Remember when Pelosi promised us change if we elected Dimocrats to Congress? Well she was right. Gas is headed to $4.00 a gallon and you can thank the Dims for restricting us from drilling for more oil in ANWR and off the coast. (About now is where some troll reading this will comment about how Bush didn't open up ANWR when the Republicans controlled Congress. He tried. Unfortunately, the Republicans in the Senate didn't have enough votes to prevent a filibuster by the Dims.) Now you want those same assholes who won't allow us to increase our domestic sources of oil to impose price controls. I'm sorry. I saw that movie during the Nixon, Ford, and Carter years. I don't want to see it again. Unfortunately, I will. Jug Hussein Ears is the black Jimmah Carter and he'll have a Dimocrat Congress with a farking socialist as Speaker of the House. I can hardly wait for his "malaise" speech blaming us for his ineptitude. I wonder how he looks in a sweater?
Set the Wayback Machine Sherman 'cause we're going back to 1976. They'll prolly reimpose the 55 MPH speed limit, as well.
Be careful of what you wish for, Irving. In your case, you're gonna get it. Hope you enjoy your gas lines.
You can always take the bus.
Sincerely,
GOC in Atlanta
Speaking of Nancy Pelosi, back in April 2006 she stated that "Democrats have a plan to lower gas prices." I guess the plan this lying bitch was talking about was the left's usual blowing of smoke up our asses.
Posted by: thatjerryguy on April 25, 2008 04:43 PMDenny, take a deep breath and relax. Contrary to what many believe, we will have another Republican (or at least the closest we can get to one in McCain) as POTUS next year. This country is not ready for a woman or a black president yet. Where have you guys heard that one before? The Dimocrats/socialists are none too happy with their party right now thanks to the two losers that are fighting for the nomination. Many are already saying they will vote for MCCain just to not have these two in the WH, and I for one believe it is going to happen. I also believe, as long as us SRF's continue to pony up $4/gallon of gas without raising hell, changing our way, etc. that we will still continue to be charged this much. The big oil companies have learned they can get by with charging us this much with little to no backlash, so what is their motivation to charge less in the future. NONE. The only thing that would change that atitude is if someone comes up with an uber quick, uber effective and uber affordable alternative fuel source. I guarantee you, and I don't care what time of year it is, what's going on over in the ME, or how many grades of fuel are being developed at the time, the corporate big wigs at the petroleum companies will drop the price per barrel dramatically. Until that time, we should just stop our griping about fuel prices since pretty soon food prices are going to shoot up ;) and we're all going to have more to complain about then. Morons like this guy in the paper will always feel the need to look for big govt to help them out in some way shape and form and are too far "damaged" to be of any use to our society, so just look at him for the entertainment value he is, nothing more, nothing less.
Let's not forget that the USA exports over a
million barrels of crude a day becouse the eco-lefties will not let us increase or refinery capacity.
Our farmers could also be opening new world
markets for corn with their surplus and
the world rice shortage.,,,,Wait a minute,
What surplus? It's been cooked up and stilled.
And not for "Makers Mark". To save the world from
Global warming.

Posted by: Pete on April 25, 2008 05:01 PMThis is who is in charge of the country. Recently Peeeeloshi was asked what she thought gas prices were. Her guess, $2.56 a gallon. When informed it was $3.50 she remarked, oh, it came down 6 cents a gallon. Like it or not, your life depends on people like this to make decisions.
I lived through the gas lines and gas on even-odd days. That should have been the last democrat allowed within a mile of the white house.
Today is the price we all pay for the democrats hating and bad mouthing the U.S. Other countries were all too happy to help destroy us without giving a though to the fact, So goes the U.S., so goes the world.
Posted by: Scrapiron on April 25, 2008 05:44 PMThere are various ways to distribute a limited supply into a larger market.
1) Price controls - rationing by ability to wait in line.
2) Price - rationing by willingness to pay.
3) Government fiat - rationing by bureaucracy.
4) Chance - rationing by lottery.
You can probably think of more.
Of these only one contributes to solving the actual problem of a misfit between supply and demand - price; it usually eventually leads to increased supply. Chance is a break-even proposition. Fiat reduces the price somewhat by restricting demand, but it is inefficient, so it takes more demand reduction overall to achieve the same price reduction. The worst of the choices is price control - which actually reduces supply in the face of a supply shortage.
And for those who say oil companies are evil, greedy profiteers - I presume you would not think of selling your house, or shares of stock, or used car etc. for what a buyer would pay, but only for a 'fair' profit, right?
Posted by: Glenmore on April 25, 2008 06:57 PMSheeesh! What the HELL is wrong with you guys!!! You’re discussing an actual problem by using reason and logic, not to mention valid examples. Do you really expect dependent neurotics living fantasy lives in imaginary castles in mythical realms to follow and understand?
For cultures such as France, or Britain, or especially Islam, Utopia is where their ancestors lived, a Golden Age, a time of great heroes performing great exploits with great risks and even greater rewards. For the modern American liberal, it’s just after the next election when the entire legislative, executive, and judicial branches are properly filled with Democrats and Marxist socialists.
The great hero of liberalism is that giant, benign intellect who can construct a society in which no one is accountable for his own actions, where everyone has instant access to magnificent health care and nobody has to pay for it, where megalomaniacal psychopathic dictators can be reasoned with in good Christian faith and all will lay down their arms and praise the almighty spirit for giving the world America and the United Nations.
Hunger will cease to exist because no one will go hungry. Wars will end and never begin again because no reason for them will exist. Children will never be deprived or molested, and the entire concept of “minority” will disappear from human discourse because all will be equal. And this can happen only in a properly managed socialist state managed by a true Democrat. Why? Because bad people will see the beauty of the plan and change their evil ways. It’s brilliant.
Why is that so difficult for you guys to grasp? I mean, after all, individual humans cannot be expected to make their own decisions – that’s what government is all about, for goodness’ sake. And that’s why everyone must make the same wage, eat the same foods, drive the same hybrid, and surrender all their salaries and properties to the state so that proper distribution of wealth and services can be effected. It’s so simple, and so beautiful . . . how can you not understand it and persist in your archaic beliefs in individualism and laissez-faire government??
Any depiction or discussion of our world without a proper Utopia in it will never make sense to the left and right coasts. And to take us to that Utopia we simply must have a Good Ship Lollipop and a nice, shady, golden brick road. Absent those archetypal fundamentals, liberals would have neither a place to rest nor a means to get there. It’s so clear and simple that a child could get it.
But . . . there will always be, I suppose, those dreadful throwbacks who believe that an honest day’s work rates an honest day’s pay, and the most effective producer should get the greatest benefits, and the shiftless, worthless, unproductive parasites should not share in the harvest they did nothing to sew or tend or reap.
I mean, we’ll probably never rid ourselves of those neandertals who insist on being unique or exceptional, who prefer not to follow the herd and see only the hind end of the one in front, who refuse to be merely a number, a humble worker bee waiting for the next glorious dictum of the next glorious rhetorician. It is the tragedy of the American race to forever produce risk takers, dreamers, builders, fighters, people who refuse handouts and prefer challenges which lead to the cheap thrill of satisfaction of a job well done.
You’ll see them forever, I’m afraid, those stubborn, self-sufficient, proud, accomplished conservatives for whom the reward is as much in the satisfaction of a job well done as in the profit it accrues, to whom that beer tastes really good instead of merely satisfying, in whom the maintenance of personal integrity and dignity are more important than the government cheese and free abortions on demand.
We’re going to have to live with those anachronisms, those relics of bygone days, those times of spirit and patriotism and self-reliance. God help us!
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.
Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.
The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle '."
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ' post turtle ' was.
The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle' ."
The old man saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain.
"You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just want to help the dumb ass get down."
Denny, here's the (current) future of Electric Cars and how they will help. One of the first gen electric cars is going to be the Chevy Volt. It will have a battery range of 40 miles. It will have an on board gasoline generator that will give it 50mpg. The batteries are rechargeable from an outlet. It still runs on gasoline and several hours to recharge, but the first 40 miles every day do not use gasoline. 70+% of the population does not drive 40 miles a day. Just imagine the gasoline reduction we will have if all cars could do that. Unfortunatey, the Volt is going to start at about $40K.
Posted by: Charlie on April 25, 2008 10:34 PMCharlie: Hell, most of the people in Kalifornia will have to drive over 40 miles to get out of Kalifornia to get to electricity to charge their cars.
Posted by: Mark on April 26, 2008 01:26 AMFour bucks a gallon, huh? We in Aussie-land should be so lucky.
Our petrol ("gas" to you guys) is running around $1.50 a litre.
That's about $5.07 a US gallon or $6.68 an Imperial gallon (which is what our gallons are).
OK, so you can knock off 5% or 6% for the small difference between US and AUS dollars these days.
Of course the Greenie-Lefties don't WANT the price to come down, and A-hab the A-rab is laughing all the way to the Gulf Bank of Terrorism.
Let's hope the recently-announced huge oil field in Sth America comes on stream and we can tell the Arabs to go fuck 'emselves instead of their camels.

I hope the above link is right, that we have about 40 years worth of oil in North Dakota. apparently not profitable at $30 per barrell to get it out, but at $100 .......giddyap.
of course the habitat of the North Dakotan Post Turtle (nice flyslow) might be endangered so we might see Sheehan, Pelosi, and Streisand protesting.
Damn I hope this is right. Imagine us letting those camel humpers just eat sand.
Posted by: patrick on April 26, 2008 03:10 AMhey somebody smart here at GOC...
can anyone breakdown the TAX differences between the Aussies and the USA gas prices....
it should be interesting!!!!
Great Post Denny, I mentioned here before that the Dummy's promised that they would lower gas prices if elected. They also promised an end to that pesky WOT while they were at it. Remember their old mantra-No Blood For Oil? Now they are bitching that the Iraqi's need to be paying for it with their oil monies. It's funny that while they (falsely) claim that the Iraqi's won't stand up and fight for themselves, that they now want to cut them off at the knees before they are even up and running finacially. What assholes they are.
Why the Dems focus on Afganastan? Poppy Futures!?
This is what we get for not drilling in own country. I would love to see us drill and get more of own oil. I really do not know what its going to take, I guess an act of God finally. Yes lets drill off our coasts and in Alaska. We could use some of our own oil to offset all those imports. Hell yes.
Posted by: defshepard on April 26, 2008 08:30 AMOn the comparison of a Gallon of Australian Gas to US Gas.
From 2005
US: $1.55 plus $0.46 in taxes
Australia: $1.57 plus $1.39 in taxes.

The Aussies can't complain about the higher price of Gas. It's their own taxes increasing the price.
Posted by: Charlie on April 26, 2008 09:51 AMA a former Kalifornicated refugee would explain:
1. Drive all domestic oil producers out of business with enviro regs and taxes.
2. Deny all permits to drill in proven fields while outlawing new exploration.
3. Kill off 95% of existing refineries with enviro regs, Cal OSHA regs and taxes while preventing new ones from being built using the same regs plus court suits by enviro groups.
4. Require 7 different blends of refined fuel for various regions of the state and prohibit the importation of out of state refined fuel.
5. Compute the final price of fuel by adding the refining cost + transport cost + Federal fuel tax + state highway tax and on the TOTAL add 8.75% SALES TAX. In other words, the TAXES are TAXED. Yep. Those oil companies are sure greedy
Thanks so Much Charlie...That is what I expected and wouldn't it be nice if all of the complainers new about this...
Is this a GREAT SITE or what!!!!!!!
Anyone remember when the big problems of the moment were the homeless and the unemployed? We all said to give the jobs of building homes for the homeless to the unemployed and build them on government owned land with lumber that was being sold cheaply to Japan? A few people would laugh and say, "That's too much common sense for our government!". It's not isolationism to try to fix your home problems more than trying to fix the world's. I sadly shake my head at the hundreds of billions of our tax dollars wasted in trying to buy peace and prosperity for all the other countries of the world. Does any one of them appreciate our history of giving aid wherever we are focused on at that moment? I wonder.
