They were suggesting, in my opinion, that the rationalization of the "problems" was done indiscriminantly and anyone that knows conservatives knows that isn't true. Somewhere in the column they should have gone into detail on how most conservatives come to their rationilizations by analytical thinking and using facts and common sense. That in contrast to touchy feely comments like DanS's above which have no basis of fact, just the way he "feels". He's obviously not happy (as comment after comment of his prove), but his unhappiness is not his fault. It's GWB's fault, it's our fault, it's globabl warming, yada yada yada. Move on folks, you'll see no rational, well thought out, educated thoughts here folks, nothing of interest to see here.

Funny you mention that, as the 3/5 Compromise was the Anti-Slave position of Northern Democrats and only applied to Congressional Apportionment. It was the PRO-slavery position that slaves count as full persons so that the South would get more Congressional Representation.

These are apparently the same economists who claim we are in a recession....I think it is time the AP puts names on these economists they always referance......the suspicion is growing AP is just making them up in order for their stories to be credible.

TDO.......The Erie Paper just had a column about why some 1800/2000 jobs are open & unfilled everyday here while we have 7800 reclining on unemployment checks;

1. Biggest reason is "Lack of Skills", do you think they might attend the local Adult skills center for training? Last time I drove by, there was no line outside the doors.
2. Do not want to work at the jobs available! Current list of open jobs includes hundreds of Machinist positions,toolmakers, & Engineers ..there is that pesky education idea again.
3. Here is a surprise.....inability to pass mandatory drug testing....Who would of thunk this!
One idea being floated is too remove some drugs from the testing requirements to improve the ability to pass rate.TDO, This is a Democratic town so even you can figure out quite easily who is promoting this idea.

We have 7800 unemployed in this area (5.5%),if the unfilled 1800/2000 jobs were filled the unemployment rate would drop to about 4.2% but this would require some effort from those over-leisured to become qualified. The local companies looking for workers are advertising in Buffalo, Cleveland & Pittsburg where maybe some people who really want a job can be found.
