Was Jimmah Right?

In Today's Atlanta Urinal and Constipation, some idiot wrote an op-ed praising Jimmah Carter for his visionary views on energy. Ya know, conservation yada yada yada fuel efficiency standards blah blah blah alternate energy souces yada yada yada turn down the thermostat and wear a sweater blah blah blah. He sums it up in the following paragraph:

Acting with promptness difficult to fathom today, our elected leaders enacted year-round daylight savings time

Which I doubt saved much energy.

dropped the speed limit to 55

What a crock that was.

and established government price controls.

Which did what price controls always do, created shortages.

And oh so fleetingly, we downsized what we drove.

Which we are doing again. Here's my take on gummint mandated CAFE standards. They're bullshit. Back in the 70's when gummint first mandated fuel economy standards, the Big Three automakers said they couldn't meet them. But then sumpin' funny happened. Japanese automakers could meet or exceed those standards. All of a sudden, the Big Three had to create more fuel efficient cars just to compete and they made cars that actually exceeded the gummint mandated standards. This is happening again. Funny how the free market works. Commies, like the guy who wrote this op-ed, don't have a freaking clue.

Here's more.

“He was right to encourage fuel conservation by proposing a 50-cents-per-gallon tax on gasoline and a fee on imported oil — in effect, a floor for fuel prices. Invoking the pioneering spirit of the 1960s’ moon mission, he was right to recommend a tax on windfall oil profits to finance a crash program to develop affordable synthetic fuels.

By golly Jug Hussein Ears wants to increase the gas tax too. Do y'all really think the Dims want gas prices to go down? High gas prices are a liberal's wet dream. Jay Bookman, of the AJC is prolly creaming in his pants. Liberals like him hate sprawl. In his mind everyone should move from the suburbs to the city and use mass transit. No more big houses in the suburbs.

Jug Hussein Ears also wants to implement a windfall profits tax. Do ya'll know what the windfall profits tax that Jimmah and the Dimocrats implemented did? Like so many Dimocrat programs it did the opposite of what it intended. It caused the eeeevil oil companies to import even more foreign oil making us even more dependent on it. Yeah. Another success by Jimmah and the Dims.

In another portion of the op-ed he bemoans the fact that

Congress has failed to take the simple step of renewing federal tax credits for wind and solar power that will expire at years' end.

Hmmmm! Wind and solar cannot compete without gummint support. So using the Dimocrats' logic, I guess I could say we cannot shine and blow our way out of this.

Chimpy McHaliburton Bushitler finally did sumpin' right by rescinding the executive order issued by his father banning all offshore drilling. Now the ball is in Congress's court. The stupid party should be hammering the commie party on drilling.

Remember, the Dimocrats' plan for the energy crisis is tax increases, no drilling, no coal fired plants, no nuclear power plants, and Poof, PFM.

I've read that daylight saving time ends up in greater energy usage than leaving everything on standard time. The only thing it's good for is screwing with our circadian rhythms. Great wisdom from the party that gives us "drive small cars and wait for the wind" as their energy policy.

MoonBats over the rainbow......

There are so many moonbats circling the moon a commuter lane restricted to broompoolers is contemplated.

There is a saying ...two things you can be sure of is death & taxes. Well there is one more ...Goverment intervention has never & will never solve what is in the realm of private enterprise.
Some lessons are never learned & assholes like Carter are given credit when critizism is appropriate. I guess that is yet two more things we can be sure of.

Assume a 15 gallon tank and 30 mpg highway at 65 mph. At 65 mph, a tank will take you 450 miles. But at 55 mph, you’ll have 1-2 gallons left over after drving the same distance, saving you $4.50-9.00 at current prices. At 65 mph, you’ll travel those 450 miles in 6 hours and 55 minutes. But at 55 mph, it’ll take you 8 hours and 11 minutes. Even assuming the 60 additional miles figure, driving slower to save gas is only worthwhile if your time is worth less than $7.10/hour.

Posted by: Tim Budd on July 15, 2008 06:06 PM

Tim, in addition to that logic, if you have kids in the car with you, that additional hour and 16 minutes can be pure torture, depending on their age and if they have used up all of their entertainment devices.

The bigger problem is that modern vehicles probably get the best mileage somewhere between 60 and 70 mph. They are designed to drive that speed because they were made in an era of faster freeway speeds. My car will get 32 mpg at 68 mph. Forcing me to drive 55 on the freeway will cost me money, because the best it will do there is 29. I reckon this is probably true of most cars (maybe not SUVs or trucks) made since about 1990.

Joseph Wheeland said in 1979....

You know we can do it, we have the natural resources, we have more oil in our shale alone then several Saudi Arabias, we have more coal then any nation on earth. We have the world`s highest level of technology, the most skilled work force with innovative genius & I believe we have the national will to win this war.

What goes around comes around, we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. The statement is just as correct today as it was in 1979, the problem is we did not address it then , Carter laid the foundation for the current Middle Eastern situation with his ignorance & stupidity.

Today the Democratic party & their left wing supporters are proposing a surrender rather then to fight. We may have the national will but for sure the Democratic party does not & the liberal left is doing all they can to stifle our national will & hide reality from the people.

Some people can actually recognize reality....some wax nostalgic for what politely can be labeled traitorous & a failure...it all depends whether you believe in this country or you are a Democrat.

What really pisses me off is the Climate Libs---
It is my divine right to prosperity they are denying me. It costs over a hundred to fill up the F350, and if we could just drill everywhere it would be all right.
I heard that oil is not from dinosaurs, but is produced from inside of the earth from methane anabolic-ally, and the center of the earth is one big nugget of oil--
Billy bob also said that the moon around Uranus called Oily spins off oil through a worm hole that fills the center of the earth--
It is a liberal plot to deny me of the wealth Jesus promised was mine.
Kill the commie bastards!

Saw this earlier, we'll see if it holds. Bush undid the executive order limiting drilling, and Oil drops $9 today. We'll see what it does tomorrow. Hopefully, it will continue dropping.

I am just shocked, "Shocked" that you did not mention Dubya's stuttering speach today! How could you not mention his profound speach about how "everything is going to be okay"? And what was up with all his lip biting and facial tic's? Was he nervous or feeling guilty about something?

Posted by: Teresa on July 15, 2008 09:47 PM

Sorry TDHO. I totally missed the speech. But it's nice to see you bestow some of your BDS and moonbattery on us. LisaKay, PeggyU, and I really miss you when you don't come around. Your asshattery always makes our day.

Just think, when Jug Hussein Ears gets elected we'll hear some real eloquent speeches while we're paying $6 a gallon for gas. You'll have even more Mexicans in your childrens' schools, but we'll have an eloquent speaker. Be careful for what you wish for.

Posted by: Denny on July 15, 2008 10:19 PM

I'm sure that I get on your bloody nerves because I always repeat the samething. Plus it's none of my business anyhow. I live across the border and what do I know about your country. Well let me tell you that I know a lot. I'm old and I remember the past very well. It's not just the Dims that laughed at President Ford's so-called clumsiness and elected Carter.

First, the Republicans stabbed President Nixon in the back. Nobody of his own party helped him to fight this off when he lied to protect his staff. He was told to leave. I'll never understand why they were glad to get rid of him. I cried so much when I saw the Nixons at the airport, ready to fly home. Nobody was there but President Ford. No crowd of people to wave, to clap hands, to say "Thank you." The Party,(bunch of holier-than-thou hypocrites), was ashamed of this brilliant man. Did you see the Dims treating Clinton as the soiled rag he was?

Tell me who voted for Carter? A whole bunch of Republicans who didn't approve of the "Pardon" and believed that Ford was a dummy. Well, you got what you wanted. You got the real dummy! I cried when President Ford lost. He was a good, decent human being, much smarter than his party ever gave him credit for.

I'm tru crying for the Republican Party. You're always putting your candidates, and your Presidents down. Now you all want a Reagan back but I remember very well some Republicans thinking he had Alzheimer because of his SDI program. It's only when the Berlin Wall came down that they admitted he was some sort of a genius who knew how to fight Communism.

Now you never have a good word for McCain. Maybe you're right. But don't come and rant about President Obama next year if you don't vote for McCain and if you don't start NOW to encourage people to vote Republican. Whatever it is that you don't like about him, half a Republican is stil a better choice than Obama. It's time to say it out loud. No BUT about it.

Nuff said, Claude. I'm depending on all of you to elect the right person. Thank you for the platform, Denny. You're the nicest Old Grouch I ever met. The best thing about you is that you read Voltaire. À la vôtre!

Don't you just love how your messiah Jug Ears sucked La Raza's cock at their convention a few days ago in San Diego? What did you think about that pathetic pandering?

I notice how with your increased BDS and your blatent lust for Jug Ears that you hardly ever comment about the wetbacks invading our country anymore? When Jug Ears speaks, does it give you a tingle up your leg? Was your anti-illegal alien diatribes a while back just another way to try and fool people into thinking that you actually gave a shit?

Nevermind. I don't wanna know how much you cream yourself over your messiah. Crawl back under your rock and get fucked lady!

I love it when the nuts and elitest (one and the same) hype that raising gas prices will lead to conservation. In the long run it will, the rednecks will not be able to raise enough food and the truckers will not be able to deliver what is raised. Liberals in the cities will die by the millions thereby resulting in a reduction in fuel requirements and automatic conservation. Each dead liberal will conserve hundreds of gallons of fuel yearly. When Democrats starved the young lady to death in Fl by refusing her food they stated that death by starvation was peaceful. I think they should now give it a try or stick a 44 mag in their mouth and save the pain. Do your part for conservation and fertilize the planet with your body full of shit.

WOW ...

And to think I merely fly around on something up around the moon with the bats!

Y'all got some ISSUES!

Anyway, I think Carter was CORRECT back in the mid-late 70's. I know he was our first Nerd Pres based on being a Nuclear Submarine Officer (working directly under & answerable to VADm Hyman Rickover!!!) who checked-off ACES on every Officer-Billet-Skill Fitness Report the US Navy had to offer; That counts BIG in my meager ledger-book. But I also agree the powder-blue sweater was a tad much.

I agree with the author of the AJC article, but I also agree Carter was no salesman.

I like Carter; I think he took some bold & innovative Leadership Ideals & tried to make them viable. Far as I know, however, he was not tied to any Corporate Interest and hence made nor won any money & failed to influence anyone.

Carter inherited more presidential issues than he initiated; that, too, counts. I look at it as being the difference between being judged as a pitcher while playing centerfield ... after coming aboard as a relief-catcher.

I'll leave it to the Reader to chew a bit on that.

Anyway, to answer the original post:

Bad as them dark old late 70's might have seemed then, Carter WAS RIGHT.

Might I imagine fairly then that you think of President Carter as perhaps someone who is some sort of 'runt-American' in comparison with perhaps Reagan, Ford, Bush A & B (yes, that hurt even ME to make that comparison!) and maybe Johnson, Kennedy, or Nixon/Eisenhower?

Are you sure you are an 'early-bloom-Boomer'?

Let me apologize in advance for the length of my comment. :)

we'll have an eloquent speaker

Not likely, Denny. Have you heard the speech in which the ninny alludes to inhaled asthma drugs as "breathalizers"? And TDHO proclaims that he speaks better than Bush? Obama comes off as an absolute bumbling idiot - and he goes on for quite a stretch! He's talking about how inexpensive preventive care could avert trips to the emergency room. This is true. Is this something best provided by the government? I hardly think so, since they are responsible for some of the mess in the first place.

The liberal environazis (go back to the ozone hole alarmism of the previous century - thanks again, Al Gore) have virtually guaranteed that the drugs needed to assure this preventive maintenance have escalated in price. Why? Because the propellants which used to be used were chlorofluorocarbon based, and therefore labeled environmentally incorrect. The newer drugs have hydrofluoroalkane propellants. Because of the reformulation, they are now proprietary drugs and you can no longer buy generic. I have to buy these for myself and two of our kids, and I can tell you they are not cheap. Yes, our insurance pays for part of the medication, but that does not mean they are "free" or "inexpensive". I know some people have difficulty grasping this concept.

Production of CFC inhalers will be terminated by the end of 2008 as HFA inhalers will be completely phased in.

What burns my ass the most is that, in spite of what the drug inserts insist, many people have found the new inhalers to be less reliable and less effective. I had a rather panicky moment myself one time when I went to use my Proventil HFA. I had not needed to use it for a while, and so, when it sat unused, it clogged up and wouldn't deliver. This was in spite of my cleaning the mouthpiece and canister according to package directions, and shaking it occasionally while it sat dormant. I simply couldn't get the canister to reprime when I needed it. Finally, I found my son's old albuterol inhaler which still had some in it - and which got me through until I could purchase a new canister.

Now it is possible, I suppose, that I might have gotten a canister that was a dud. Life isn't perfect, and my new canister was working fine today. However, I have heard these complaints (unsolicited, by the way - I hadn't mentioned my experience) from others - a friend whose father has emphysema and my brother's girlfriend who has more severe asthma than mine. I was interested to note that their experiences mirrored mine.

I have several concerns:

a) The drug is expensive. So far I have just talked about the fast-acting "emergency" drug albuterol. This is often taken in addition to regularly inhaled steroids used as maintenance drugs. Those inhalers which used CFCs have also been reworked and are also expensive.

2) If a reformulated inhaler sits on a shelf at the pharmacy for an extended period without being handled, does it still work or will it need to be discarded? If it must also be discarded more frequently, would this not push up the cost as well? What is the shelf life of the new drugs? I know the "old" albuterol inhalers we had seemed to last forever with NO maintenance. The new ones require attention to remain functional.

3) The new inhalers require frequent priming. Every time you prime an inhaler, you lose a dose from the canister. Doesn't this waste also raise the cost of the drug?

I'd be interested to see an unbiased study of the hospitalization rates of kids with asthma attacks, both before and after the phaseout of CFCs. We keep hearing about how asthma is on the rise. How exactly do they measure that? You are a nurse, TDHO. Perhaps you have some insight?

Posted by: PeggyU on July 16, 2008 01:55 AM

And to think I merely fly around on something up around the moon with the bats!

Maybe TDHO would like to bob your knob while you two are flying around in space? Nothin' like space-head! Send us a space report after you shoot a load in that moonbat, but please don't sent me any pictures of your spacey-moonbatty children...

I would like to hold down my dinner tonight...

"we downsized what we drove"

Fuck that. I live in the United States of America where it is my God Given right to drive what I want when I want. If I want to pay $10/gallon so I can drive my SUV because I'm a SRF, then kiss my ass, I'm doing it. Don't tell me what I could/should drive. It's my money and I'll spend it like I want.

Note to Teresa the stupid one, Bush's facial features were obviously reflective of his concerns that most of what he said was not understood because there's so many morons like you out there. He most likely felt that it was a total waste of his time to be talking about grown up, responsible topics to the dumbed down public that you represent. He felt like he could be making better use of his time by building a new hurricane makeing machine to put more people in poverty conditions (oh wait, they were there before that act of mother nature, sorry). It hurt me to watch him trying to "dumb down" his speech so stupid people (like you) would not have to run to the dictionary or wikipedia to understand what he is saying. Therefore the manner in the way he spoke was directly related to the dumbing down of the general electorate such as yourself.

And to DanS, finally, the nail in the coffin. "I think Carter was correct", "I liked Carter". These two statements alone reflect your total lack of common sense and the liberal atitude you obviously subscribe to. It's now official. ANYTHING you express here will now be judged by these two comments alone and in my opinion, will carry no weight what so ever.

Posted by: Ray on July 16, 2008 07:47 AM

DanS.....

Thanks for pointing out my error....it was not Joseph Wheeland , it was Jimmy Carter who make that quote. I meant to say Wheeland wrote Carter said......Alas, I did not proofread before posting....My Bad!
The fact you recognized just who made the quotation suggests to me a latent understanding your admiration for Jimmy is mis-placed.

Here is something for you to ponder.......
My opinion for the merit of our presidents since Roosevelt;

1.Ronald Reagan...by a wide margin,a great man!
2.Harry Truman....accepted responsibility!
3.Richard Nixon...shot himself in the foot!
4.George Bush the first...Trusted the Democrats!
5.Lyndon Johnson...Saddled with the VietNam War!
6.George Bush the second....his Star will rise!
7.John Kennedy...All show , no real leadership!
8.Dwight Eisenhower...Popular but a bumbler!
9.Gerald Ford...Doomed from the start!
10.Bill Clinton...Morally Bankrupt!
11.Jimmy Carter...Probably the most inept ever!

TDHO....The BDS queen from Omaha speaks, any comprehension for reality from you yet? What say you for the actions of Chuck the Smuck? Sorry, but you are stupid.

Posted by: dudley1 on July 16, 2008 09:12 AM

I wonder if our moonbat friend Teresa also heard her fellow liberal douchebag Harry Reid saying that when Congress reconvenes after the July 4th vacation, he would unveil his plan to lower gas prices.

Cue the crickets.

Unfortunately Reid's idea seems to be stuck behind Nancy Pelosi'd idea to lower gas prices. Traffic is evidently backed up on the democrats Bullshit & Lies Highway.

As far as the "eloquent" B. HUSSEIN Obama, take away his teleprompter and carefully crafted speeches and he becomes a stuttering, bumbling moron. Did anyone catch his Memorial Day speech when he said "On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong." This pretentious jackass is one big collection of gaffes and lies. Oh yeah, he'll make a fine President.

Good analysis of USA Presidents. With my non-American eyes, I would add to your "Nixon...shot himself in the foot," that he was also stabbed in the back by his own party. I would emphasize that, unlike the bumbling Carter, President Nixon became a respected elder stateman. He was consulted frequently by the presidents of both parties. USA owes him the detente with Russia and China.

John F. Kennedy was a walking disaster. That's the only way to describe the poor young man's presidency.

As for Bush the Second, his star is already way up in the sky for me. You should all stop blaming him for every sin under the sun. Don't wait 100 years to thank him for his strong leadership at a time of great danger.

Before I die, I would want to go on Letterman show, spit in his coffee and wash his mouth with soap for making fun of the language of the President of the United States of America. He should be thrown out of the country. The guillotine should still be in use for people like him.

Alaska North Slope Oil Reserve....

In a move loooonnnggg overdue...... Bush has decided to act like a Republican & will put 3.9 Billion acres up for oil lease in the North Slope Oil Reserve. The potential is for upwards of 8.4 billion barrels of oil.

Anybody want to bet it will take 10 years before oil flows? Somehow I believe it will be far less & somebody other then Bush will get the credit.Probably President McCain or Vice President Romney.

Bush`s oil buddies are dancing in the streets, Cheney is smiling & Harry Reid had to change his Depends. All across this land in the corporate offices of big oil.....senior executives are chanting DUBYA!DUBYA!DUBYA!
