Man, there are days when I wonder where you come from ...-Saturday Guitar makes it all worthwhile.

If there is a difference between 'cheers!' and 'Respectful-Cheers', have for yourself the latter.

When did McRINO learn the guitar?

John Williams is such a versatile artist. He is wonderful with Baroque composers. That Scarlatti Sonata is so clear, light and fluid. I like this presentation because, on the big screen, I could see a close-up of the guitar and his incredible technique. It looks effortless. I went to his official site and learned that he had transcribed the Spanish composition: Iberia d'Albeniz. People thought it couldn't be done. I listened to him playing it on YouTube. It was so enjoyable. He was as much at home as with Bach and Scarlatti.

Very interesting biography. No tuxedo for his concerts. He likes to wear colourful shirts. Reminds me of you on the blogmeet's video, Denny...

Wonderful time. Thank you for the music.

Claudia - I posted a video of him playing Asturias. He plays it better than Segovia.

There is also a YouTube video (which I cannot find) of him playing Recuerdos de la Alhambra where he talks about the treble part where he describes it as being like doublepicking a lute. I got into a discussion with my friend Cindy who took 8 years of classical guitar about it. I was right about how to play the treble part and she was wrong.

Thank you, Denny. You really know your music and your players. This video is magnificent! I'll listen to this again and again.

I read that, at his first concert (he was 18), Segovia had written on the program, "A Prince of the guitar has arrived." He's done so many different things as a soloist and with other people. I also enjoyed it tremendously when you put him on lately with the full Vivaldi Concerto. He is good everywhere. Incredible artist!

Denny - I just went on YouTube to listen to Segovia playing Asturias. It doesn't seem to be the same piece. Segovia plays it quite slow. It doesn't sound so scintillating, so perfect. At times, I felt like saying, "Keep going..." Of course, Segovia was an old man. Having said all this, I find that Segovia plays it with a lot of emotion. I like this.

That's my only problem with John Williams. He is brilliant but a bit austere. Specially when he plays Bach.

Thanks again. I'm having such a good time with your Saturday Music post. I'm always looking forward to it.
