Damn That Global Warming!

Has Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW been in Peru?

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO, has made an emergency shipment of 36.800 doses of antiparasitic medicines and antibiotics to save 18.000 alpacas in the district of Pilpichaca in the highland department of Huancavelica, one of Peru’s poorest regions.

“Pastures have been covered in snow which has frozen over, making grazing impossible,” Marc Vandersmissen, FAO’s Emergency Coordinator in Peru, said Thursday. “Unable to find adequate food, the alpacas have become weak and susceptible to disease.”

Global warming?

This year, the cold arrived early in Peru’s highlands –in April instead of June– and more than 92,000 hectares of land have been affected by frost, crops have failed, livestock perished, and thousands of people are suffering from respiratory diseases.

But...but...but...I thought it was getting warmer. That's what Pope Albert keeps telling us.

On June 19, President Alan Garcia enacted a legislative decree to declare a 60-day state of emergency in 11 of Peru’s 24 departments as temperatures in the Andean highlands continued to drop dramatically.

According to Vandersmissen, the cold spell phenomenon, known locally as a ‘friaje’, “involves a combination of unseasonable low temperatures, frosts, snow and hail that damages crops and the high-altitude pastures on which alpacas graze.”

It sounds like they need to fire up some SUVs in Peru.

Excess snow is caused by global warming. Haven't you been paying attention?

Posted by: Alan on August 4, 2008 12:52 PM

It's sure a good thing that so many of us suckers bought into that infomercial and became alpaca farmers. Now we can send some back to Peru and help to replenish the population.

By the way, AGW is actually helping to slow down the economy. My company is reluctant to make any significant capital investments until they find out how carbon legislation is going to affect the industry. Just the threat of liberal leadership is causing the economy to suffer during a Republican's term in office. This allows to libs to blame Bush for the problems they haven't even created yet. Go figure!

Neither of you have been paying attention.

It's "climate change" (tm).

Anything different from "normal" is Man's fault.

It's not snow, it's soft hail. I actually read this as an explanation for the unseasonable snowfall they got in Australia a couple of weeks ago.

I would bet since the Peruvians have a word for the phenomenon, "friaje", that it's been around for centuries. Yet somewhere an environmentalist is using this as an example of man-caused climate change. Idiots.

My God! First the polar bears, now the alpacas! What could possibly be next!

Posted by: thatjerryguy on August 4, 2008 04:36 PM

Let's hope it's the greenies.

Schmidty - The exact word...

Posted by: Claudia on August 4, 2008 06:54 PM

Gorons (thanks, daryl)

Denny -

don't take this the wrong way because i do truly appreciate you showing articles of this nature simply because we always hear the other side of weather stories.

however, i think that pointing out episodes where it is cooler than expected is about as disingenious as the gorons who blame my blazer every day that we are over average temperature.

anyway, had to get that out. i do like to hear these, but they don't disprove AGW anymore than hot days prove it.

my 2 cents, Pip

Schmidty -- here's hoping!!

We're having one of the coolest summers on record, here in Anchorage, and just had the coolest July since folks started keeping written records. Our average temp was 55 degrees, and we got double the normal rainfall. Sure, weather patterns have shifted. Man's fault? Okay, all you folks who rearranged the jet stream, stand up & be punished!

What effect is that volcano having on the weather down there? Just curious as to which direction the ash blows and how far it carries and whether that would make for some strange weather.

Did Paul get religion, or do we have a new Paul? Or is it like that good Kirk/evil Kirk thing?

PIP.....

Posting events or occurances of cooler then expected weather does not prove Global warming is BS is true but giving Pope Algore a Nobel suppository to jam up his fat ass does not substantiate it either.

What does challenge the Global Warming belief held by experts like Pope AlGore, Liberal Politicians,Media empty suits & our elementary students brainwashed by the Liberal teachers is historic evidence contained within the icecaps, tree rings & sedimentary layers around the world which all show multiple occurances of warming, cooling, higher CO2 concentrations, higher/lower sea levels prior to we ever being on this planet, while we are here & will occur long after we are nothing but fossil remains.
This type of conclusive factual proof is not something which influences confirmed GW believers as it does not provide for Mankind as being the responsible group for these events which are obviously of natural occurance.
My parents were long on common sense .....they taught me when someone is selling something they stand to make money at or do not walk the talk they give to you, do not trust or believe them.Al Gore as a Climatological Expert or Scientist......Not a chance! BS Artist or Snake Oil salesmen is more the call.

Anyway here in Erie Pa...we average over 100 inchs of snow per year,10 of our coldest average winter temperatures have happened within the last 15 years while our warmest period was in the late 1920`s /early 1930`s.
I do not consider the events of the last 100 years to be indicative of an impending iceage but it sure does not fit the Global Warming BS story either. I do find the claim Global Warming By so-called experts to be responsible for colder winters & more snow in North America laughable even if it does fit some computer model they have dreamed up to offer as evidence. We all know to date "NO" computer model prediction has ever proven to have been accurate with regard to climatilogical events. These computer models are all exercises in advanced study computer gaming which require seasonal modification to be brought back into line with what really has happened not what was predicted. As for me I deal with reality not BS ...Screw Pope AlGore & any of his Goran worshipers.

Peggy - Religion? Paul? Different Paul. Paul lives near you. Rev. Paul lives in Alaska.

Posted by: Denny on August 5, 2008 12:47 PM

Next thing you know, there will be a pope named Paul. Sheesh. Got Pauls coming out of the woodwork. I even have a brother named Paul. They're everywhere, I tell you!

Posted by: PeggyU on August 5, 2008 03:17 PM

My brother was Paul. No Rev.!!! A Crown Royal drinker like Paulgottadrink. "I drink nothing but the best." he would say, waving the empty bottle. It was a sign to go and get another one...I guess being an honest lawyer must have been very depressing and very lonely. Drinking helped!

Rev.Paul has an interesting blog.

Posted by: Claudia on August 5, 2008 04:03 PM

Ok. I guess Pauls are grouped by occupation. My brother would be NationalGuardPaul, then.

Posted by: PeggyU on August 5, 2008 07:13 PM

dudley1-

agreed.

Nobel suppository. BAwwwaahhhh.

Posted by: Pip on August 5, 2008 11:10 PM

Is it just me, or is this story a little hinky? They're dealing with crop failures and thousands of people with respiratory illnesses, and the U.N. is sending medicine for the alpacas? What about the people?
