Indian-American. WTF? Courtesy of Fausta who nominated Hugo Chavez as this week's winner. This from Hugo who has decided to change the name of Latin America to Indian America:

Because us, more than Latin America, what name is that? Latin was imposed on us. That’s from out there in Europe. We’re Indian America…and when we say Indoamerica we’re incorporating the blackness of Africa and the European whiteness, we’re not excluding, Indoamerica’s diverse, it’s multiracial, pluricultural, diverse, just like the dance, the colors, the coloring represents an ancestral culture.

And by the time Hugo finishes wrecking the Venezuelan economy that diversity ain't gonna mean jack squat. Indians? Yeah, there will be Indians. Stone Age Indians. What a putz. He gets the coveted award.

Some Mexicans are sensitive to the Hispanic and Latino monikers. They want to know why Latte Liberals have decided to call them something other than Mexican. Is there something WRONG with being Mexican? Why do we "pretty it up" by calling them names out of Europe?
At least "Indian" is a name they chose...not imposed on them by OUR A. H.s
I always call a Mexican, a Mexican, and here in the Bay Area, that can raise eyebrows. Those all puffed up, self righteous... oh, don't get started, Teri!

This sums it up pretty good:

I know Indians/Sri Lankens that say
Indians??? Dot-Indians or Arrow-Indians??

as for "Hispanics"?? that is what those up Here (Tigard-Hillsboro) area like to call themselves ...and when asked the Name of the Capitial of Hispania ..they get testy

It is kinda like ...Black is Beautiful...I am an Afro-American...etc..going thru words that would be Unacceptable now

Find a name and then stick to it!!!!!!!!!!

If it had not been for the cock up of Columbus thinking he had reached India, what would the natives had been called? Plus there would be no West Indies.

I can not claim to have seen all 27 million people in Venezuela but I also venture to say most are of Latino genes. You see natives but not so many these days. Is the rest of SA the same?

One should be what be what they be......

A black dude walks into a bar in rural Mississippi & says gimmee a cold beer .....the bartender looks at him & says we don`t serve your kind in here.

The black dude says I`se not what you think , I`se Cuban , The bartender says really, reach`s under the bar , pulls out a shot gun ,points it at him & say`s speak something Spanish.

The black dude say`s Adios Motherf--ker & runs out the door.

I know it is in bad taste but it seems to fit the thread.

Latin, Latino, Latina;
Have nothing to do with race.

It mearly means your country of origin uses a
language derived from Latin. An Irish Muslum
born and raised in Panama is Latin.

If we're going to get upset about words, we should
first understand the word.

I do get upset when I'm called Anglo or Anglo- Saxon. My ancestors were Norman.

The family moved to Britain in 1066 with William
the Conqurer. Only one of the men is recorded as being wed beneath his peerage to a "Saxon Girl".

However I have learned to live with the insult.
