Irony

Stolen from Surber.

As one of my correspondents noted: “The Democrats have suddenly developed a keen sense of morality. John Edwards has been banned from making a speech at the democratic convention for having an affair and lying about it. Bill Clinton will be speaking in his place.”

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Heading into the convention, Bill Clinton leaves a bad taste in the mouths of many Democrats.

Some day, they'll replace Jessie Jackson with Barack Obama, because Jackson is afrocentric.

Posted by: red collar on August 21, 2008 06:15 AM

This can't be true, is it? Is it irony if they never could display a reasonable level of ethics and morals?

Liberals no likey authentic leaders with strong ideals and moral principles (or they would have to embrace those qualities in Bush). Nothing as threatening as ethics and morals to the depraved.

Ex-President Bill Clinton did not "ly about" his affair with "hot-lips" Lewinski.

As far as I heard he was standing straight up in more ways than one.

He taught her how to play the sexaphone and she demonstrated the proper position of the lips when blowing the flute.

What is the threshold for getting ostracized by the Dims; age of mistress, knocking up of mistress, health of wife, lack of creative use of stogie, boring confession?

Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes!

Democratic Morality........

Yeah, It is a joke for sure but the faithful like TDO will never understand what a bunch of lowlife sleazebags most Democratic Politicians are. They will rant on & on about Dubya all the while their Democratic hero`s are boning them up the manure chute.

Hell, I bet even DanS know`s the difference.

Posted by: dudley1 on August 21, 2008 12:27 PM

"Democratic Morality" is clearly an oxymoron - make that morons!

Posted by: Jane Austen on August 21, 2008 12:32 PM

I'm not too sure that my Canadian perspective is worth a penny. And anyone could point out to me that my country has morality problems. After all we just had a Foreign Affairs minister (conservative, BTW) leaving so-called important papers in his mistress nid d'amour. Of course, he was of French origin, which explains the very beautiful girl and her gangsters' connections. At least, he had to resign and is, now, a political has-been.

But my question about Clinton always is: Why an impeached President was allowed to finish his term? How can he still participate in the election process? Why is the Democratic Party tolerating this obscenity? Why is the Media enshrining him to the same degree they did the women-abusers Kennedys?

Where are the solid Americans who built this great country? I have to go from conservative blogs to conservative blogs to hear their voices.

I might have had some respect for Clinton's wife, and his party, if the slimey worm had been told by both to buzz off, not to be seen and heard again.

Claudia - Impeachment only means that charges have been brought against the president by the House of Representatives. To remove him from office he must be tried and convicted by the Senate. It takes a 2/3 majority to convict him. The fix was in in the Senate to get this over with as quickly as possible. There was no way to get 2/3 of the Senate to convict the slimeball.

Denny -

Yes, he got away with it. Who cares really about the sexual sins? My God, that the one who has never sinned...It's forgiveable. It's the lie, the repeated lie that made it doubly wrong. Never did anything with "that woman", instead of, "Yes! I did it. You want to spank me? Go ahead!" That would have taken a real man.

The Senate then, the party that still keep this man going are as morally wrong as he is.

He didn't lie to protect his staff like poor Nixon. He lied to protect his skin. I still think that President Nixon was stabbed in the back, and Clinton was overprotected. History will prove that Nixon was a great president, and Clinton, a fluffy, rotten, superficial, did-nothing, knew-nothing president who opened the door to terrorism through his neglect.

Don't forget about Kwame for Chi ka go.

They told him not to show his slimy mug.

Claudia, Nixon sold out the Vietnamese. He folded to the freaks crowd. We should have won that war, and almost did except for the politicians, and Richard Milhouse Nixon was one of them. He also started a lot of the BS we had to endure under the peanut brain Jimmah.
He was not the worst president we had, but he was not the best either. average maybe?
In the long run, he will be remembered for his conduct during Watergate. Today he is vilified, but in the future, you are right, people will look again and see a man who was loyal to those who worked for him.
Ford, his successor, was a good and honest man, and might have been a great leader.

Bill Clinton was impeached for perjury, obstruction of justice and abuse of power during and after the Paula Jones sexual harassment law suit. Not for sex or sins. The charges were real and serious, not trivial as many would have you believe.

Posted by: strong_epoxy on August 22, 2008 12:07 AM

strong_epoxy -

You have it exactly right about Clinton. The charges were far more serious than sexual peccadillos. That's why the Senate, who did not confirm the impeachment, bears as much responsibilities as the disgraceful president. He lost all credibilities in International Affairs.

Americans might shrug the world's opinions but there is a segment of the World which cannot be ignored. There is an important core which analyses the nature and the character of your leaders, and makes decisions accordingly. When I say the word "fluffy" next to Clinton, I'm giving you a consensus. He opened the door to terrorism in your country because it became obvious that the President had no backbone. He would fight for his skin but nothing else. And your Senate accepted it. A large segment of your country is still accepting it. The approval rating of the Clintons is not a number to ignore. I can assure you that it rejoices Al Qaeda.

Jeremy -

I beg to differ on your evaluation of President Nixon. It was a disaster for your country to let him go. The man was a genius in International Affairs. He was responsible for the detente with Russia and China. He became an elderly stateman whose advices and opinions were sought by all the presidents.

You're right about the politicians letting go of South Vietnam but it was not the President. He did not betray South Vietnam. The weak-willed liberal congress did. North Vietnam did not respect the Peace agreement. Nixon was not allowed to resume bombings. The Nixon Doctrine was to supply arms and supplies. The US Congress refused. They paralysed him. This is the truth about your Vietnam War.

The silent majority of your country approved of him. But there was a small, strong conservative element in the Republican Party who opposed him. He probably would have implemented a Social Health program. They did not want this. They seized the opportunity to get rid of him. Instead of helping him to ride the Watergate Crisis, they derailed him.

I could say a lot more. I was part of the British Diplomatic Corps. We watched all that in dismay. We couldn't believe that Nixon would be forced to resign. We knew that Ford was a good, honest man but he didn't have the strength and the acumen of Nixon. Nixon was very much needed in the world at the time. He was sorely missed by the core of international people who trusted him.

There is a saying in the Catholic Church about some self righteous believers being more Catholic than the Pope. I often apply it to the Republican Party. There are Republicans who are ten times more conservative than the Party. Those people got rid of Nixon. Were they right? Were they wrong? History will judge it.

Of course, the man had flaws. He was anti-semite. His private language could have been more refined. So what???? I hope the Republicans find a perfect man, one day, who will meet all their requirements. I hope they don't wait till a President dies to see all his good points.

Thank you, Denny, for allowing me to say here what has been in my heart for years. I still cry when I think of President Nixon. He is not my hero to the same degree than President Reagan. But I was much younger when Nixon resigned. The unfairness affected me deeply.

Claudia.....

As you & any who read my posts know....I have more then a passing interest in politics & the qualifications of current ,past & future presidents.

As for your consternation for the fall from power of Richard Nixon.....during my business travels in Europe & the Pacific rim , the same sense of loss you post was & still is the prevailing view of those whom I interacted with in the course of my business & personal discussions.

It has always been a mystery to me as to how our so-called free press can get reality so wrong but when one realizes their drive to promote a political agenda forms the basis of any presentation made .........it does become understandable if not fair & balanced.

What is sad .....we all have the ability to search , discover & recognize the truth but so few choose to do it.This is the real mystery of America today as it may be truth will set you free , the reality is so many line up at the public trough for more helpings of Liberal BS.

Claudia - Nixon could have stayed and fought impeachment and may well have survived, but rather than putting the country through the ordeal, he did the honorable thing and resigned. And you were right. Nixon was protecting those who worked for him. Clinton was only protecting himself.

Another irony here: Nixon was planning on socialized medicine. Had the Dims not gone after him they would have had their gummint run health care wet dream. Nixon was good on foreign policy but a disaster on domestic issues. He gave us the EPA among other things.

Posted by: Denny on August 22, 2008 02:52 PM

Denny - Of course, the British Diplomatic Corps was far more interested in, and very impressed by Nixon's international dealings. Yes, it was also our understanding that Nixon's program on domestic issues was not approved by his own Party. I guess that's why, to this day, it is still believed that his own Party pushed him over. Nixon was a fighter. He just needed somebody on his side. He would have made it. You're probably right. He did the honourable thing. He was always judged so harshly. But he was a man of honour, and he had a great respect for the so-called "little" people.

You may laugh at me if you want. I wanted us to go and help him. I got in real trouble with my husband by calling all those diplomats a bunch of cowards, deserting a friend in need. Can you picture the British arriving in Washington to defend Nixon? I was young...

Dudley1 - Thanks for your attention and comment. It helps me that you saw the loss first hand when Nixon resigned.
