Beethoven this week, and I know that right after listening to this, Claudia will go and play it on the piano.
I just gotta get my piano tuned. I haven't played in over two years. Not that I was ever any good, but I could play a few things on it.
Posted by denny at September 6, 2008 01:28 PMYou know me so well, Denny. Saturday Music is a great gift. Thank you!
I was twelve when I learned Fur Elise, the same year I learned Mozart Sonata in C Major. I can still play both; Beethoven, a bit better. It requires less technical dexterity. I didn't think the guitar would be able to handle the second part but he did it quite well. I think what is more difficult for a guitar is the "diminuendo" and the "pp" (very soft). But he manages the tempo and the poco riten. although I play it faster and my ritenuto is more accentuated.
What a beautiful piece! I'm enjoying so much replaying it. It would be great for you to get your piano tuned. You also play "The Promenade" from "Picture of an Exhibition" by Mussorgsky. It wouldn't take you long to get back to it. So much fun! Again, thank you.

Posted by: thud on September 6, 2008 07:54 PMWhile you're at it, Denny, you might want to get your organ tuned, too.
Posted by: Ralph Gizzip on September 6, 2008 08:31 PMLovely!
Feur Elise, one of the first I learned.
Fausta - You play? Wonderful! Apart from the Music teacher of my youth (a nun, 92 and still teaching!), I know very few classical pianists. I hear some in concerts, of course.

I have fond memories of this piece because it was the first thing I learned outside of my John Thompson book, it was my first sheet music. Every young pianist must learn it, as there is a local music store here that has a "No Fur Elise" sign in the piano area!
Posted by: JackieD on September 7, 2008 10:16 PMDenny - I'm listening to Andre Rieu Live in Vienna (on PBS), and I'm wondering if anyone can play Strauss on a guitar. I'm sure every pianist has learned an arrangement of The Beautiful Blue Danube.
Posted by: Claudia on September 7, 2008 11:13 PMAwesome!
Posted by: CharlieDelta on September 8, 2008 01:06 AMJust lovely. And what a nice change from listening to/reading all the political BS. A few notes of sanity in an otherwise crazy world. Thanks, Denny!
