Ric sent me this.
A man was killed trying to steal a copper cable which was carrying 11,000 volts, an inquest heard today.Kirk John Thompson was electrocuted at the derelict Panteg steelworks, in Pontypool, South Wales, when his bolt croppers pierced the plastic coating of a cable still connected to the National Grid.
Hopefully he doesn't have any children and hasn't passed his stupid dipshit gene on to them.
Posted by denny at September 18, 2008 03:36 PMSumbitch got what he deserved. Scumbags are constantly stealing the cables out of the ground after we install them, and I'm always hoping for something like this to happen to 'em.
Posted by: CharlieDelta on September 18, 2008 04:29 PMCrap, I read that at Drudge earlier and thought "I need to mail this to Denny". Another one of those Darwin award winners. I find no empathy for this guy or anyone he knows, for if he's this stupid, he deserves what he got and the species is better off without him. As for the Lib/Dim/Socialist trolls that visit here, I'm sure they will tell us he resorted to this as a result of society forcing him into a life of crime (note, this took place in England I believe).
Posted by: Ray on September 18, 2008 04:53 PMIf you have ever read "Mostly Cajun", he has given the run-down of what happens when high voltage gets into the human body.
Posted by: Daryl on September 18, 2008 05:37 PMSimilar thing happenend in Dallas the first of August, except the guy was stuck (as in naked with burned flesh adhered to transformers and pole) and it was during morning rush hour, so there is live video of the guy during the rescue. He died from his injuries a couple of days later.
Posted by: JackieD on September 18, 2008 05:59 PMI would suggest we look on the positive side, but it was AC power.
Posted by: Jeremy on September 18, 2008 07:49 PMI have heard this story many times, I wonder if it gets recycled or are there that many foolish people?
Posted by: DoubleU on September 18, 2008 07:53 PMIt's shocking! Shocking, I say, to think people would be stealing copper cable.
Posted by: Ralph Gizzip on September 18, 2008 08:24 PMRevolting I tell ya, rimshot!
Posted by: vetfromhell on September 18, 2008 10:20 PMDoubleU - wfaa.com, search "copper thief burned" and you can see the video of the Dallas incident. We also seem to have two or three "idiots stuck in chimneys while trying to rob house" stories a year. I guess criminals aren't terribly original.
Posted by: JackieD on September 18, 2008 10:38 PMIt happened in Roswell GA just this past weekend!
I'm sorry ... my bad; it was up in Duluth GA.
:)
I like the story from Chicago last week about the fellow stealing manhole covers who pulled one bout 4/5 of the way up, bent further over to get leverage and fell head down into the shaft. He didn't die or anything but did have to breathe-in a little 'gray water' before he was rescued and arrested.
Posted by: DanS. on September 18, 2008 11:19 PMJeremy, that was a good one...
Posted by: CharlieDelta on September 18, 2008 11:22 PMDenny:
This is off topic, but may I recommend Heather Mallick of the Canadian Broadcast System as the AOT of the week, month, year?
I suspect that you already know about her.
Jeremy:
I just re-read your comment ...; -Good One!
Maybe he got an object-lesson in RMS-equivalence.
As in "Reminds Me i'm Stupid" about DC re AC!
Posted by: DanS. on September 18, 2008 11:24 PMDanS - wow, i understood you tonight!
Aww, Pip that's just 'cuz I faxed you a pizza! :)
Posted by: DanS. on September 18, 2008 11:46 PMWhere's my slice???
Ooops! I just sounded liberal didn't I?
Posted by: CharlieDelta on September 19, 2008 12:22 AMHis family are probably sitting down with a neglegence lawyer right now.
Since it was electricity from the National Grid I suspect it will be the United Kingdom's taxpayers who will foot the payout!
Incidently, this copper wire stealing is a common thing in Ireland. The culprets are more than likely Knackers. (Irish/English/Scotch Gypsies).

Naaaaaaaaaaa
You just sound hungry ... and that's to be commmended!
And Toejam: are you actually posting from ... Ireland? If so, whereabout?
Posted by: DanS. on September 19, 2008 01:09 AMIn the absence of any response, I am signing off & going to bed as of 1:11AM this early Friday morning.
I'll be back later today to check on you miscreants. Lest you lower the boom on me, I'm a miscreant too.
Posted by: DanS. on September 19, 2008 01:15 AMOne last quick comment:
'Something' was screwing with our reception of a single channel on Comcast: CNN was way out of sync and flickering between black, dim and perfect.
In course of conversation with neighbor's, we discovered that it was a common complaint within a broad-spectrum of Bread & Circus County.
I took it upon myself to phone in both the complaint and the spectrum of those affected.
I was fortunate to have contact with tech-support "Jon" no "H" who agreed that such symptoms were rare indeed.
Long story short, "WE" figured out that someone was trying to jam a single cable channel. VERY Rare! Very Ambitious! They nailed the bastid; I got one month of free Comcast TV out of the deal.
Fuck with me all you like on the things I may not know, but ...
Night!

Dan S,
Yup. That's correct. I'm really posting from Ireland. I made the mistake of marrying an Irish lassie. Since I'm retired we spend a lot of time on the Emerald Isle.
We're located in Co. Wexford about 10-clicks from Wexford town.

Was it leaning a bit to the left side of the screen, Dan?
Start watching Fox Dan. It will come in bright and clear.
Posted by: Daryl on September 19, 2008 07:30 AMDaryl.......
Excellent! The Communist News Network has had a problem with the bright side of things for years.
DanS received one free month of ComCast......Again excellent, hope he spend`s a lot of time watching Fox news. Understanding will come.
Posted by: dudley1 on September 19, 2008 08:57 AMWe also have our idiots in Phoenix we had the guy on a transformer get burned but this asshole lived. Recently AZ passed a law if you are recycling copper you need to have a valid ID and you have to wait a week to get your check. Remember the good ol days when slimballs used to sell dope to make a buck!

Use the super-double-secret decoder ring, dumbass!
You'll give away the message, broadcasting such as you do 'in clear'!
Cheez! Can't even get an encoded-line right!
It's not "R78PTILAUTY R78P3YTPA!"
It's: "R78PTILAUTY R87P3YTPA!"
I send you to school, I buy you books, you eat the covers!
I've got a good mind to confiscate your dog-whistle!
Toejam:
Have you any access or wherewithal to share with me original acoustic Wexford music & lyrics?
I tried to click on your ID and send an email off to the side, but it didn't work.
If you'd like to contact me, just click my ID/ScreenName.

My bad!
That should have read:
You'll give away the message, broadcasting 'in clear' such as you do!
So now we are in the same boat: wrong-and-wrong alike.
Do you want to bail or paddle?
We have no sail to hoist.
